Recorded, mixed and mastered by Michael Briggs at Civil Audio civilaudio.com
I listened to them for a while and never did I once imagine that the lead singer would look like this.
I felt the same exact way!
I love it when someone sounds as good live as they do on an album
I clicked on this video never having heard this band before. I certainly did not expect THAT VOICE. Wow!
They played at our wedding. Best wedding ever!
Nothing will give me more joy than his voice mixed with this joyous music that I expected to be dissonant but its definetely not
MELTING
That voice.
My partner of over 12 years did a cover of this for me, he doesn't usually sing in that low of a register but he did coz he knows I love the song, and of course he killed it, in my opinion, but I may be biased (for the record, i don't always just blindly love everything he does) 🤣
I was listening without viewing the video and I thought it was Johnny Cash, fucking hell he's got a great voice!!!
Johnny Cash and Warren Zevon had a soul child.
I think Cash was just floating around until he found the right person to possess. He didn't always sing like this. It was around In Bocca al Lupo that he started to sing this way, which they started writing about a year after Johnny died. :p
Amazing song. This version is even better than the album one.I've fall for it
easily the best band ever. no other band compares
Thanks to Ray for showing this! I love this!
Every time I listen to this band I look for Johnny Cash hiding in the background.
what a singing voice so soothing
Dude, it totally reminds me of Cash, too. Glad someone else thinks so
Epic, love this song, love this version
I'll never forget summer of '99 in Sewanee, Sarah. You're still a badass! -Joshua
Such a beautiful and completely well rounded song.
Improv4humans brought me to this gem.
Me too! :)
Oh my goodness. I love this song.
Good god this song is pure gold... 😀👍👍
Awesome! I love the acoustic version!. Thanks for the vid! Cant wait to see murder by death in August!
Hah! Not a problem at all! Always glad to help. Don't forget that little Em shape either. Also, just figured out the tuning on the Violitionist "Three Men Hanging" if you were curious. It is just E standard with a flatted G string haha it looks like he is fretting chords but he is using some of his finger as a stop.
just saw these guys last night in saint pete fl at the state amazing.
delivering the goods, thanks MBD.
one of my favorites :)
Amazing voice.
This is beautiful. The original is great enough but this is just wonderful.
Great song!
He is tuned down 2 whole steps to C standard. The No Oath, No Spell video he has the capo on the 4th fret because that song is tuned E standard, key of Em I believe. Tunes down for the voice, it is much easier that way.
YUP! Perfect. Thank you so much. I was right about the chords, but tuned 2 full steps down he's just playing C D (C form with open strings), and G. Hurrah!
true, i didnt think of them, i grew up around classical music nuts so i havent had much exposure to other musicians like this :p
Ray Toro brought me here!
Definitely reminds me of him
Good song.
GUITARISTS: The chords, as far as I can tell, are Ab Bb Eb (Or G A D with a capo on the first fret), then Ab Eb Cm, then back to Ab Bb Eb. My question for you is: what the hell chord forms is he using? Or is he in a strange tuning? Because whatever he's doing does NOT look like that. (I may also be going off the cello part, which is 100% what I wrote)
can we get some more of these violinist sessions?
Which, C standard may fit the cello better seeing as the lowest string is tuned to C? He bounces around from D standard, E standard, and C. Depends on the song. Usually plays your basic E standard guitar chord structures, just lower. :) Hope that helped
Pleasantly surprised.
personal opinions man. only gotta hit the right note for that one person to remind em of something they'v heard before. but like you said. doesnt even matter. its a good band and they stand on their own.
Really fuckin' dig this man..
when he looks at her 🥺
My favorite thing about this video. My man loves his wife something fierce.
Jacqueline du Pre! And Melora Creager and Zoe Keating from Rasputina.
Denver show?
she kicks ass everytime I see this video
I've seen them several times and it's true that the sound lets them down sometimes - not the way they play, but the mix in the venue. His vocals are low and tend to be drowned out, it's a shame. Bad sound can ruin the best bands in the world!
Nice
praying for sleep to overtake me..after this cigarette
i dunno man, look at some of the most famous cello and violin players ever, its a pretty good crop of men :p just off the top of my head you can think mischa maisky, yo yo ma and mstislav rostropovich for cello, but i cant think of any famous female cellists off the top of my head. as for the violin, well sure theres hilary hahn, but then theres maxim vengerov, joshua bell, james ehnes, david oistrak, itzhak perlman, jasha heifitz, etc.
thats what I thought. and not really with this song, but others they sound like a combination of Brand New and Johnny
Who dare disliked this? Shame on you
Yeah, I feel like the beginning of Good Morning, Magpie sounds a LOT like him
Damn Sara is looking pissed!!???!!!
in terms of the timbre of his voice, he can absolutely be compared to him.
Sarah is so beautiful...
He sounds like the old guy on the radio in the mornings
they are real
they look sad I can feel it bet i know why too
It was always Yoo-Hoo
sounds like cash
Dam I didn’t know birdman could sing
smile
I saw her smile once in concert- Rare, but it exists!
this is amazing..saw them with Man Man in St Louie a few weeks ago..murder by death really let me down..the bass and drums ruined their set imo anyway, but what do i know
I know what you're saying though. It does seem MOST famous cellists are men.
I like this band and all, but He'll never be compared to Cash. Not even by a little fragment of percent.
Reddit? Anyone?
This is great, but my brain just can't seem to accept that that guy has that voice. They just don't match up somehow...
sorry to be a grammar nazi but it's spelled cello. :)
Looks like before they played ole dude dropped a bomb on girls cus she looks hella heated the whole time and dude keeps looking at her for reassurance or a smile n never gets it.. or she raggin
