      Not quite.
      The flex is the strongest impact driver in the market, followed by the Milwaukee, then this impact driver.
      Unknowns are the dcf840.

      @@michaelenockson6536 Yes, but those videos came out after my comment.
      So the 850 moves to the 4th spot. 3rd is the 840, it still comes slightly short of the Milwaukee and Flex unfortunately. But a new xr will be coming out soon though. 🔜

    Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

    1825in-lbs = 152ft-lbs. That's quite a bit of power, equal to the low setting on my medium sized 1/2" DeWalt Impact Wrench. For an impact driver, I can't think of a reason you would need more power. The small size, light weight, and good ergonomics are the more important things. I have the DCF850 and this thing delivers on all fronts. Very impressed overall and it is not not expensive either. Get the PowerStack batteries though, it makes it even smaller.

    I am a HVAC special projects coordinator, plumber and electrician for a top rental company. So I run into various projects and definitely tight spaces. This drill is a workhorse. I drive 1/2 inch lags into pressure treated 4x4's to mounting unistrut to taking blower motors off rooftop buildings. Love the 3 speed setting gear number 1 is perfect for precision mounting control boards, contactors, the battery life is superb with the 3 amp battery and when i do service work i switch it to the 2 amp battery which will last all week. Durability is a huge reason i got it. I am not a fool who beats thier tools up i am talking about it still works like the first time i used it. I was a Milwaukee/Makita guy but DeWalt out did themselves with this impact. Squeezing into a tight spot to mount or tale something apart a 1/2 inch is huge when it comes to accessibility. My tools cannot afford to fail on the job and thats why I will always be a DeWalt guy. A ten out of ten.

    Ok, long time DeWalt user and fan here. Have many DeWalt tools in the arsenal. Very disappointed this is my first bad experience with a DeWalt tool from new. I bought one this week from HD, used it to remove deck screws with square drive and 1/4 bit. Not a real heavy application for the tool but it required some downward pressure with the opposite hand on the tool to keep the bit from skipping out of the screw head. Keep in mind, these are small, narrow gauge deck screws for composite decking. The first impact driver failed after one use from new! It didn't even make it past the second screw removal! Thinking it was just a random defective oddity, I returned it to HD for another one. Well, the second tool failed after about an hour of usage. When pressing down with the opposite hand on the back of the tool, the tool refuses to spin! Remove any pressure and load and it spins fine. My other pet peeve with this impact driver is the reverse switch button is too close to the trigger. Your trigger finger will constantly "accidently" engage the reverse button. It's not a show stopper by itself, but boy is it aggravating! I plan on reaching out to DeWalt to see if there is a known issue with this tool before returning the second one to HD on the second day.

    Light *coverage* I believe is the term you were looking for. ;) What's up with the hammer mechanism stalling out when driving the screws? Also, I can't resist pointing out that this minuscule 1/4" impact driver is more powerful than the vastly larger Snap On CT9010 impact wrench. Yes, one's an impact driver and the other an impact wrench so they serve different purposes, but the CT9010 should not be getting out-gunned in the power department by these baby tools.

    Is there an reason for how these impacts, not just this one but a lot of the others, are able to loosen lug nuts torqued well above their ratings, when over on the Torque Test Channel, they tend to stay pretty close to their torque claims.
    For example, the DCF 850 only made ~160 ft. lbs. of torque on the Dyno, amd the Milwaukee Gen. 3 was ~180, tops. Yet on these nut busting tests these these drivers are easily getting into 300 and 400 ft. pounds. Even the old Atomic did 300 ft lbs. Yet it averages in the low/mid 140's in torque, and when I tried one out, it struggled to remove my cars lug nuts(100ft lb w/ a touch of rust). I'm genuinely curious the the results can be so different.

      Sean O - I just purchased this little 850b model and it is certainly a tough cookie. I can attest: it WILL remove many lugs from steel rims on passenger cars, but struggles/falls short of removing them from many cars with aluminum rims. Perhaps the bolts "dig into" the aluminum a tad more?
      But sure as can be... I just HAD to try this on one of the fleet vehicles I was working on tonight and sure enough! It loosened all 5 lugs with relatively little effort. Car had recently had new tires installed about 3 months back from Brakes Plus and all lugs were correctly torqued. Nonetheless, the 850 spun all 5 off the front-right side. These are steel rims, mind you. Maybe it would not have been so easy with aluminum rims?
      Regarding the precise torque figures... I always wondered this myself! I am sure there is some science to this, and it likely plays into the difference between "real torque" ratings vs the "breakaway torque" advertised on many larger guns.
      I can also tell you: taking off a nut or bolt torqued to 200 ft-lb that was just assembled -vs- one that was torqued and has say for any considerable length of time are 2 different stories. Many of the torque tests use bolts that have been tightened and loosened multiple times - which surely smoothens the threads. This makes subsequent tighten/loosen sequences a tad easier as well.

    • @davidgyea
      @davidgyea 2 года назад

      Fastening tourque and Dyno tourque are what it can do. Removing fasteners that do not have rust usually takes 60-70% of it's fastening tourque to remove it. Rust/oxidization adds friction which will require more tourque to remove. Different metals that are in direct contact will corrode ex. Metal on aluminum.

      Did you use 3/8s or 1/2 sockets? 2amp battery or higher? These things can make a big difference. To remove lug nuts I use a 4 amp battery with 1/2 sockets using the shortest 1/2 adapter because it wobbles less and maintains more torque
