  • In the realm of AI and high-performance computing, Dell Technologies introduces the groundbreaking Dell PowerEdge XE9640, a purpose-built, direct liquid-cooled (DLC) server tailored for AI and HPC. This innovation elevates AI acceleration and GPU density per rack, addressing the growing demand for high-performance GPU-accelerated servers.
The PowerEdge XE9640 boasts remarkable GPU diversity, offering either NVIDIA NVLink interconnected H100 SXM5 GPU modules or Intel Xelink interconnected Intel Data Center GPU Max 1550 OCP Accelerator Modules (OAM). This versatility caters to a broad spectrum of AI workloads, enabling seamless communication between GPUs for memory-coherent tasks like Large Language Models (LLM).
Furthermore, the PowerEdge XE9640 offers exceptional density and cooling capabilities, optimizing rack space usage and operational efficiency. Its 2RU profile maximizes GPU capacity per rack, delivering superior performance compared to larger air-cooled equivalents.
This innovation holds great promise for AI-driven innovation, providing reliable, efficient solutions that align with green data center requirements. The PowerEdge XE9640's ability to handle demanding workloads while meeting sustainability goals positions it as a frontrunner in the AI and HPC landscape. Explore the transformative potential of the Dell Generative AI Solutions and embrace the future of AI with Dell's accelerator-optimized servers. Visit Dell's website for an in-depth exploration of their Generative AI and HPC solutions.
Not to be outdone by its full-liquid cousin, we also dive deep into the 4U Dell PowerEdge XE8640. The XE8640 is a hybrid air-cooled and closed loop server. It delivers liquid cooling directly to the GPUs, offloading the heat into a giant radiator.

Pretty amazing to have all that in a 2U server. I'd hate to have to rack a bunch of those at one time though, I imagine they must weigh a ton.

They're really not any different - the GPUs are "light"

@@StorageReview Thinking about it a bit more the heavy servers were usually heavy because of spinning hard drives. So probably not as bad as I was thinking.

OK, now think about how much quieter your server room/DC would be

@@jy5960 Yes and lower power consumption with fewer and/or lower spinning fans.
