I totally get the daughter thing. My kiddo Rhiannon was being bullied because she is a kind and big-hearted kid. I was livid too when it kept happening but honestly she has stayed the same way but she also stepped up and she guards other kids from bullies. I am so proud of her. She said she can do it because she gets lots of love and support at home when other kids don't. Sending you lots of love and light to you and your family because you are doing great!
I FEEL YOU MAN i have the same worries for my children. Your children are blessed, my brother. She has a father who understands the world she will inherit. Our children can be the difference this world needs 🙏
I have 8 year old twin daughters who my wife and I are homeschooling. In regard to the issue of instilling reality versus maintaining innocence , I tell them “trade your naivety for wonder. To continue to reflect innocence even with the knowledge of the world will be the greatest gift you can give others. It will tell those around you that you can still know reality without compromising your joy or playfulness.” I inject academic philosophy into so much of their school. Being able to reason well, and to wonder deeply, protects us from the vulnerability our ignorance as children causes us, while still preserving our better nature. That’s my two cents. I loved your reaction. Ren’s art is pure. It comes from his heart, constantly. He couldn’t turn it off if he tried. I think he generates it with every breath. That’s hard work. It takes a lot of energy. You could say, that energy could be directed at healing, but what more healing than art? ❤
Watched your last vid, and didnt get around to comment. Was gonna say dont worry about feeling like ppl are looking for emotions all the time. Happy song reactions are just as great, when the songs are great. And I dont blame you one bit for wanting to mix it up with other stuff. All that to say, dont consider your emotions as weakness, but as a testament to how Ren is able to draw it out time and time again. This song, like many of Ren’s, got me right in the gut. I have a daughter I never want to lie to. She’s 7 and exceptionally curious about EVERYTHING. And in true AuDHD fashion, she has an acute sense of justice which means the world often doesn’t make much sense to her. I constantly find myself having to balance between knowing I can’t lie to her and wanting protect her spirit. It’s not an easy task ❤
Stay true to your values, JP. You have an ideal of what the world should be like. Teach that to your daughter. Teach her both sides of the coin so she can understand. Let her grow up with knowledge and her own personal interpretation of the world. Hopefully, that will be enough for her to become and remain a good person throughout life. Oh I am so happy to hear someone else point out the 2 point perspective and the “ architecture “ with Ren set in center . And the black and white…because nothing ever is…except unconditional love. Your daughter’s empathy will take her farther than anyone else’s apathy. And as Ren goes on to say, the world , and humankind, needs more kind hearts. As she gets older both you and a therapist can help her understand how to be empathetic without sacrificing herself or having her selflessness being taken advantage of by others.

More than a decade ago, I got called-in by my daughter’s 5th grade teacher. I was confused at first, because she was smart and had never been in any trouble! That teacher was worried that my beautiful girl was “too naive!”😂 Thought she didn’t understand that the world was cruel and mean, and “not everyone was her friend!” Omgosh! If an omnipresent view had been able to see MY response to this!? Sheesh! I hated that lady! My daughter was safe enough at age ten!? That she was still trusting and HAPPY!?! E’f that lady! Why stop yourself from showing emotions on camera? Isn't that what connects us to you in the first place? Us seeing you be emotional, reminds us of how we first felt watching for the first time too. If you didn't show any emotion and just gave an analysis, we wouldn't connect with you and it would have a totally different impact. As a mum of two daughters, I totally get your fears. But the best thing we can do as parents is to teach our daughters self worth, confidence and conviction without losing their empathy and kindness. Primary school is a time where they will learn how to deal with all sorts of people. You just need to give her the tools. My daughter is also someone who is very innocent and kind. She has learnt to understand why kids are bullies and to avoid dramas. She's learnt to stick with kids who are likeminded and to stick to her morals and fight for what she believes is right. She has just started secondary school, so hopefully she now has all her armament ready bc at this age they will no longer listen to us. Now they rely on the lessons they learnt and we can only hope we've done enough. ❤
