The most majestic piece any rock band has ever produced. I've been listening to this for 25 years now and I STILL get goosebumbs every time I listen to this.
Love love love Extreme!!! Sooo underrated. Their guitarist Nuno Bettencourt's solo projects Mourning Widows, and Dramagods is great stuff too. They definitely don't get the credit they deserve. Criminally underrated....
It warms my heart that you heard this song for the first time and that you enjoyed it enormously. I'm jealous, cause I'd love to experience this song for the first time. This was the album that changed my life when I first heard it. I started playing the guitar, I started bands and made new friends and relationships. I can't imagine how different my life would be had I never heard this album on New Years Eve of '96 and discovered thia band that still today is my favorite band of all time. That's the magic of music. How it not only makes us feel things and get us out of slumps in life but how it changes the path of our life. Thank you for this video, it made me appreciate this song even more if that's possible. And thanks to Patrick for recommending it. (Not Patrick Badger? 😊)
This is the song that changed my musical life! Looking back, this album which a masterpiece, but Everything under the Sun was my gateway to real music, complex music. I became a progressive metal fan, namely Dream Theater fanatic after this. To this day, almost 30 years later, Dream Theater is still my old time favorite. Watching your reaction to this song so brings me back and damn I'm appreciating your reaction to no ends. I have been privileged to see Extreme live a few times. I even saw Gary Cherone live when be fronted Van Halen. That is worth a one time listen to too
Right there with you. 1992 & 93 I listed to this album & DTs Images & Words until I wore out the cassettes 😜 (both albums have since been replaced with CDs and are still in heavy rotation on my playlists). Being familiar with Extreme probably eased the transition from Portnoy to Mangini for me. For me, music like this is transcendent and impactful in ways I can’t fully explain.
A journey indeed! From the prophet Daniel through Ecclesiastes into Jesus teaching the parable of the Prodigal Son. It’s a call to return to God through Jesus Christ - rise abs shine, a NEW DAY is coming!
I've been listening to this song for 29 years... and watching you experience for the first time what I experience EVERY TIME I listen to this song... So good to "share" that with someone.
These songs for me were like a soul cleansing . Gary ties in biblical scriptures/references to their meaning into what he’s singing abt in true legitimacy/heart. I’d say yes a true musical master piece but also a powerful spiritual journey. I always feel like my soul is flushed , an emotional cleansing.
On my way to work this morning, I decided to listen to this song. I hadn't heard it in a while. Then I noticed that there were reaction videos to it, and I stumbled upon yours. Your reaction to this masterpiece is perfect. I remember when I was 20, I put this on for guys at work. They all hated it. I couldn't believe how they could be so ignorant. The musicality is off the charts. I get that music is subjective, but even if it's not your thing, you can at least recognise the talent in the band. Anyway, without going off on a rant, it was great to see someone else appreciating this gem as I have. The Three Sides To Every Story album is fantastic throughout. It baffles me that Extreme don't have the recognition they deserve, but it's also great to know that I'm part of a privileged few that get it. This masterful song here is a complete eargasm. Thank you for sharing it with the world. Much appreciation from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤️
This has to be the most profound reaction video I've ever seen. I am blown away by your reverence to the moment and appreciating the greatness that was displayed with that music. I was lucky enough to see them live in 1990 at First Avenue, Minneapolis. Front row. Opening band Alice in Chains. Seriously the best concert ever attended. I know what you meant regarding the latin speaking. I just learned tonight it was apparently a blessing of cleansing in the name of Jesus. Pretty bold move to release an album like this. If you have time, I would recommend digesting this entire album in one sitting with the lights down and crank it. It is beyond moving. New sub based on your absolute stellar way you go about your work. I will check out your others now. Peace.
Your video came across my FB timeline and I was hooked on this band back in 1990 when I heard their 2nd album Pornograffitti which was a master piece. Extreme is the best band not enough people have heard of. The grunge era hurt them with their overall popularity in US. But make no mistake they are phenomenal. Well done on the is video
I am so glad you found this. . . It has been a long time since I heard this for the first time. . . seeing you hear it and appreciate it like this makes me wish I could go back and hear it again for the first time. . .
I'm very glad you liked it. Wouldn't have wanted to put you through 21 minutes if I thought you might not like it. But since I saw that you generally liked the band in the previous two come-uppances, where they played mostly Queen songs, I felt that you'd probably get something out of it at the very least. :)
About that Latin part: Catholic church "classic", part of the old liturgy. "Dominus noster Jesus Christus te absolvat: et ego auctoritate ipsius te absolvo ab omni vinculo excommunicationis et interdicti in quantum possum et tu indiges. Deinde ego te absolvo a peccatis tuis in nomine Patris + et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen" ... Wikipedia translates it as "May our Lord Jesus Christ absolve you; and by His authority I absolve you from every bond of excommunication (suspension) and interdict, so far as my power allows and your needs require. [making the Sign of the Cross:] Thereupon, I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." - Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolution
Hi Patrick, I have missed all Faith's reactions today, no notifications, or at least I didn't hear them... so 8-9 hours later I saw ur request. OMG Patrick what an amazing song, it is magnificent, really took me off somewhere special . Also sounds like Brian May helped them wright it. Thank you for ur wonderful request & education. Talk to you in the next reaction...hopefully. Janelle.
@@jazzyj7490 I guess in some way Brian did. Not in the direct sense, though. (They wouldn't have hidden that, I think.) More in the sense of influencing them all over their youth. :) Although it's not entirely impossible. They produced that album in the year of the tribute concert and were in contact with them earlier.
People did miss it. So much music from 1987-1994 got flushed away by the grunge/hip-hop explosion. We were pretty spoiled for choice then, so everything came and went so fast. The internet helped us remember them...so that's good. But yeah, I liked this a lot more than grunge back in the day. Smart, musical, hopeful... There's always been coordinating messaging in our media, and when this record came out ('92) you had to be a depressed slacker with a flannel shirt and two chords to be a rock star. Because of the atrocious "hair metal" of the 80's anything too melodic was "showbiz" and "sellout". I'm not sure that Green Day was worth that trouble.
There is a reason why you feel like your in church 😀 The song is deep and profound on so many levels. Many of the lyrics in pt 1 are straight out of the Book of Ecclesiastes, as well as references to the Prophet Daniel and the dream he interpreted for King Nebuchadnezzar - and prophecy therein (signs of the present times). The theme is spiritual and personal, especially Pt 2. Musically & spiritually, it’s a masterpiece. This trilogy had a profound affect on my personal spiritual journey.

I'm still confused how people can say "didn't last too long". They're still active. :) After III sides they've published "Waiting for the punchline" in '95, "Saudades de Rock" (which I like very much) in '08 and will release a new album soon (planned in 2020). Btw.: Good suggestions for further songs... I've requested "Get the funk out" next. It's one of the two first songs I've ever heard from them (along with "Decadence Dance") back in 1990.
@@fryke Mutha was my first. I heard Punchline back in the day and felt like they sold out and tried to be relevant instead of their core sound so lost interest in their newer work. III sides was their Pinnacle. Lucky enough to have seen them on pgraphitti tour front row.

Great vocal harmonies as well
Queen' younger brother haha
Shame they didnt last too long
Hard to beat the one you just listened to ( an epic effort) , but might I suggest (from the Group) studio versions of the following so you get an idea of how diverse this group really are
Tragic Comic
Rest in Peace
When I first kissed you
Ghost
All the above are so musically different from the other and shows the breadth of diversity from this talented group
