Fantastic tutorial. Thank you, not only for this, but your guide on druid game play as well. With no background whatsoever in the game overall, you made a very daunting task much more pleasant. I got lucky and had my first life as a sorcorer which perfectly syncs with the druid. Having a blast and loving the new toon. Thank you again!!!
thanks dmack, glad you found the vids helpful :-)
I really did. As i progress in the game on this druid, and get a few more past lives behind it, would love to pick your brain on the end game stuff. Thank you again!!!
new player here, started around 10/10 and ive just been dissolving things till i was ready to dive into actually crafting, and this helped a lot! thank youu
yw glad it helped! stop by the live stream some time and say hi if ya like, happy to answer new player questions in real time :-)

Cannith Crafting: The movie
right
Dude you are awesome! I hope Turbine takes notice of all the great work you've done creating these guides. Anyway thanks again for all you're hard work. Well done.
Thanks Apacheizm, I hope you found this one helpful :-)
I been crafting since the old system and i am slowly making my way up, I just made Lvl 314 yay, well I figured I would watch this guide cause there is always a chance to learn something you may not know. Ty for the guide always help.
yw! 314 so you're almost to a point where you can craft everything for self. Maybe just the power level 34 shards are a low % at that point.
I may do an advanced guide like I did with the old system, to go over some tips and things beyond this video. This one was already so long, lol, but I really wanted to make it more of a hand-holding tutorial for people that are totally new to it and especially for those that have avoided it because they were intimidated by it :-)
Good i will be watching for it, i'm sure this will help many beginners and maybe get those players that avoid it to try out the new crafting system.
Thanks for the video.
Regaurding the gear master, I think the primary function for this is to mix/max you gear slots. for instance if you are planning to create gear for a set of melee lives. You know you will need:
PRR/insPRR/MRR/insMRR/doublestrike/str/con/insstr/inscon/ ...etc
You select each of those in the gear master and then egenrate your list. You can THEN select where you want the piece of gear based upon where our other stats need to go to optimize the gear. It will then give you a list of the various pieces of gear you need.
It is a lot of fun to plan out a complete set of gear to see where the optimal slot is for whatever you are doing. The best part is it has the same rules as the random gear. You can then keep an eye out for nice random gear that is optimal in the AH (if you like that sort of thing and you plan ahead).
example: healing amp and armor piercing are both fairly limited where they can go. And the are both on suffixes on gloves. Well the planner gives you an idea of what other options you have. If you put healing amp on your gloves, A-P can go on either mainhand prefix or trinket. Those are the only options. you can even select where you want to put the item (thats how it generates your item list at the bottom) to 'mark' which ones you have already assigned to what equipment.
Cool but kind of simplistic, right. Well try adding 15-20 selections (which is not unreasonable ) and play whack a mole on items, trying to figure out how to get attribute X without losing attribute Y. You end up with some weird things you would not expect (I ended up with a con/FL/insCon ring for my caster cleric because that was where it fit in the list.
Using my example, I know I won't want to use my trinket for A-P and I don't want to use a crafted mainhand (except maybe an ooze beater or skellie beater) so I HAVE to use A-P on gloves if I want A-P.
It is incredibly fun (for me at least). And it does give a wonderful fantasy gear set.
Obviously named items can mess everything in that order up, but all you need to do is go back to the gear master and uncheck the gear slot you have the named item for and the attributes you won't need on crafted gear with those items and you can reshuffle everything.
Hey Roger, I've played around with the gear master a bit more since the vid and I like it too. I TR'd Voodu last week and it's the first time I've heroic leveled a toon since the new crafting system. I spent nearly 4 hours trying to plan out Voodu's gear, lol. I used the gear master to help sort it all out :-)
I am curious how you decided to split the gear.
I can see how the jumps in bonus based upon gear level would make certain levels better than others. Even stat bonuses would be especially valuable (assuming you don't get stats via other methods.
So if I want to create a Con/FL/ins Con ring, the sweet spots would be level 5/10/13/18. (with ml5 being con/FL only)
But that would require 4 sets of shards. And frankly it seems kind of nuts to me that the cost of an ml4 item and a ml18 item cost almost exactly the same. It discourages twink gear in many ways.
How are you handling that aspect of things?
NOT:E I am a relatively new player, so I am both resource poor (comparatively) and knowledge poor when it comes to TRing. Only done 3 lives.
I have only recently begun heroic leveling again for the first time since cannith crafting was update, so I don't have a ton of stuff crafted.
One thing that is nice about the new system is that everything is BTA. So one efficient thing to do is make some items that are applicable to any class that you can move between toons as needed when you're leveling. Your ring example, which has con and FL, is good for any toon. I personally wouldn't stress too much about having optimum gear in heroics, especially during single digit levels, and especially 1-4. Some people want to have uber gear at level 1. My view is that I'm not even at those early levels for long enough to care and I don't want lowbie twink gear that I use for 3 hours per life to fill up my bank. A few solid pieces of loot are fine and the rest whatever, lolz.
I think if you had items for levels 5/10/15 that should suffice. The stuff you can make with new cannith crafting is so much better than gear we had just a year or so ago. Of course that level/gear scheme isn't a strict paradigm, you can have other pieces of gear sprinkled in between when it makes sense. But I can't emphasize enough for you as a new player, don't stress too much about optimizing your gear for every level and don't stress too much about gear in general. I feel like it can ruin the fun :-D
For epic leveling, I have level 20 craftables and level 25 craftables. That's it til end game.
Hope that makes sense and helps a bit :-)
Thanks for the advice. I personally loving tweaking and optimizing gear. Which is why I love that gearmaster so much. I will say that it matters a LOT more than most folks remember when you only have a few lives under your belt. Mind you it doesn't help that I started out with cleric lives, but still.
I do agree that the super low level stuff is kind of pointless, especially with the shard costs taken into account. Heck, I can XP gem my way to 3 or 4 pretty much just on daily and weekly rolls.
As for the gear itself, I was thinking a con item for 5/10/15 like you said. And maybe a skelly beater and an ozze beater staff since those are so prevalent under level 10. Maybe a construct weapon at 10 and a good weapon at 13 or 15 for all the DR/good mobs in the Twelve/Vale/Inspired quests.
I also think folks are underestimating the fact that augment slots will be available on literally every item you create. Being ablle to swap in a cheap bonus stat for secondary stats (say wisdom for a pally) will make maximizing things much easier.
You mentioned that there are some gear combos that should have minimum level that are not WAI. Do you have a list of those? Crafting a few of those before they are fixed might be worth the time and cost.
I have heard that invulnerability and true seeing aren't WAI, but I've not seen a list of non-WAI shards. I believe the crafting planner has notes about it when you try to pull those kinds of recipes up.
Cool, the new system was a complete mystery to me. Thanks!
yvw :-)
Thanks man, I've been playing since late 06, and really never liked crafting other than raid crafting. I did however craft a little with the first droam module. I have been wanting to start. This helped. Peace - Doom from Gland and Orien
Hi Richard, I'm glad you found this video helpful, ty for saying. Be sure to check out my advanced guide that shows how to level up quickly and efficiently. It will save you a lot of time and resources ruclips.net/video/Xe1HYsiZ2xI/видео.html
Thank you very much. I was completely lost. I couldn't figure out how to anything but disjunct!
yvw glad you found it helpful! be sure to check out the video description for notes on how to level up quickly and efficiently :-)
Unless they have changed the crafting tutorial 'quest,' only the skill potions are BtA. The success boosters are BtC, and so you should select that reward with your crafter and select the potions with any alts you have and pass them to your crafter. Success boosters you buy from the store are BtA though.
You didn't cover Rune Arms, and there are a couple key differences in both the game and on the planner. In game there is no need to (and in fact you can't) use a ML shard. The ML is set by the ML of the Rune Arm itself. On the planner it still lets you select the minimum level, but instead it should make you select the rune arm and then auto-set the ML based on which Rune Arm you chose.
The power of CC2 is markedly higher than the original CC, with a few key differences. Fortification 100 was available at ML7 in old CC, and now it takes level *ML17* for 100 Fort. You can get 100 Fort at ML8 in CC2 but you have to craft both Fort and Insight Fort, which is pretty expensive in mats for a level 8 character...
But again on Rune Arms you can craft Animus, a ML19 Rune Arm, with Spell Power 108 and Insight Spell Power 54, for a total of 162 (and still have a third slot). Tier 1 Thunder-Forged is 'only' 150 spell power, but the 30 implement bonus does push it ahead. But that's a 5 level difference! You can be using Animus at level 19 and have to wait for level 24 to pick up your T-Forged item.
It was changed with the last patch. I confirmed right before this video that the success boosters are indeed BTA now :-D
Also I've never used or crafted with rune arms so I chose to just leave that alone for purposes of this beginner's tutorial.
Voodu Spyce
It's great that the tutorial success boosters are BtA now! I am not capped yet, and I can rip through 1k essences and still have 20 minutes left on an XP potion, so the success boosters are definitely more useful.
Got from craft lvl 16 to craft lvl 127 in just 24 minutes. Thx for the tips.
This gives me an interesting idea inspired by Voodoos matrix of heroic gear on the Ginger build.
How bout crafting optimal melee gear sets for levels 4 8 12 and 16. Omitting armor, weapon and Minos is a given. This gives simplicity and flexibility to melee builds and improves gear switching confusion and optimized opportunity plus saves time! Using the planner I'm gonna plan this and have Voodoo proof read it if you would please.
it's a good idea, but I'm afraid I'd be no help in proof reading it, as I never play melees so I wouldn't have much of a clue about how to gear one :-)
I wish you would have gone more indepth for us new crafters, like scaleable and unscaleable. Maybe an item of wizardry and or power?
I have watched this video several times and began my journey crafting. So far its good and I appreciate the information from your videos. My question is...I just recently realized that there are other types of crafting. Greensteel, and I see you have a video on slave lords. A guild mate showed me his greensteel weapon and I was surprised how good it was. It was amazing. Can I craft really good stuff with cannith crafting or should I skip it and save my time and effort for things like greensteel? How good can cannith items be? Thanks a bunch.
Hi Michael, I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos, ty for saying!
Cannith crafting is a solid option and a great gap filler and remains competitive overall. I recommend getting
your level up to about 320 so you can craft everything for yourself and Cannith crafting should definitely not be skipped. In case you haven't seen it, also check out a live stream I did about how to level cannith crafting quickly and efficiently: ruclips.net/video/Xe1HYsiZ2xI/видео.html
Using the method I show will save you a ton of essences in the long run!
If you have the content and the levels to do the Shroud, you will be able to craft uber weapons and gear much quicker with greensteel....esp. if you run with guildies who've been grinding a long time. They will throw you the sh*t you need for free or on loan to get the crafting done much faster.....this assumes you are in a good guild with solid players who aren't slaves to game capitalism...a lot has changed since I ground the Shroud to death
Just FYI, I found out why there are 2 possible selections for the extra effect slot. I pulled an extra effect shard out of a chest, and it stored separately from the Cannith stack in my bag. I used it on the second from the top option.
coffee grinder lol, hilarious and I love the crafting in this game just not your typical system and I think that is great
I think it sucks. We shouldn't have to go to a crafting hall and collect thousands of items to be able to craft. It's too complex and a total pain in the butt. Even the tutorial doesn't really tell you how to craft aside from dissolving and making shards. Is there even a clear a concise version of the crafting mechanics available? I'm looking all day ow and haven't found an easier tutorial.
Thanks!
Thanks a bunch I will check out the video and again appreciate all your videos.
IMO you should figure out which stats you want first, then look at the level range for them, then set the minimum level based on those ranges. Thus if your effects run 9-11, 8-12 and 8-10 you should craft it as level 9 not level 10, thus allowing another toon later to equip it that level earlier. Bad example as 10 gives the extra slot, but for my main, currently 20th, I did a lot at 18th since that was the common slot range minimum.
good point
There are no F2P quest to get favor with house of Cannith. You have to buy the Adventure pack or be a VIP. The other thing I strongly suspect but am not sure is that many of the ingredients are hard to find and rarely drop. Meaning you will have to go to the DDO store in game or hope its not bound to account and someone has the item you need in the AH which means you'll need a lot of plat. Tale the Mark of Cannith for example. They claim they are loot drops and those will be unbound. However I've never found one and you will need them to add extra slots the DDO points price is 195 for just one. So if you are totally free to play I think crafting is a waste of time.
Hi Rodzilla,
An f2p player can easily get the 50 Cannith favor needed for Marks of House Cannith. Brothers of the Forge is f2p and worth 27 favor. The remaining 23 favor can be acquired by free players by getting the free daily challenge tokens and running house C challenges, which are worth up to 6 favor each. Collectables are an easy farm, though sometimes takes times to get rares. the cannith crafting planner shows the best places to farm each collectable.
I have a question regarding DPS. What kind of class, multiclass, or build would be a good for someone not interested in TR'ing like 100 times etc.
My first question would be do you want to play caster, melee or ranged? And then my next question would be what difficulty are you striving for... normal/hard/elite questing, reaper low/mid/high skull, end game, heroics, etc.? But then again I'm not really a build person so not the best person to ask this of. But if you catch us in one of our live streams, we can help steer you in the right direction. we just finished our stream for the day but you can catch us live streaming nearly every day at www.twitch.tv/vooduspyce
I'm back to the game after a long time away so this guide is incredibly helpful. I do have a couple of questions though...
1. I cleaned a masterwork ring earlier as my first test. Thinking the masterwork would stay in the same way silver might. It didn't. How do you get the masterwork effect or is that only for dungeon loot drops.
2. If you make a level 4 item and add a pre and suffix effect, with an intent to upgrade it later as you progress to level 10..can you just use the level 10 shard. Do the effects scale up? or do you have to clean the item back to base and start again?
Hey Ian, wb!
1. Masterwork is something that only appears on random gen. In the old system this was something you could craft to lower the minimum level of the item, but it's not in the new system.
2. Sadly once an item is crafted, you can't change the ML. Typically what people do is craft a set of items for a range of levels like 1-5-10-15-20 or 1-4-8-12-16-20 for example.
Thank you so much, really pleased to be back. Lost my old account so having to start again but didn't lose much really.
1. Ah ok that makes sense now, just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong or missing a trick.
2. Right, that gives me a challenge. I'll try to make a set i can pass down to other alts, it'll give me something to train on too. Any advice on good gear to focus on for a dwarf pure fighter TWF using dwarven axes.
The links to the crafting planner is brilliant, little overwhelming and i don't know a lot of the effects but I can see how it will be really useful as i learn.
I'm not really a build person, and I don't play melees, so I'm no good on advice for twf fighters. My best recommendation is the check out what others are doing in the fighter forums www.ddo.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/25-Fighter
Also if you watched this crafting video and you plan on getting more into crafting, I recommend my advanced crafting video, which discusses many topics beyond this video, including how to level your crafting quickly and efficiently ruclips.net/video/Xe1HYsiZ2xI/видео.html&lc=z23eg30zdvrajzz4x04t1aokgefc1dlp0biymt3mkyhpbk0h00410
Thanks Voodu, i'll do that :)
Really appreciate this vid, great tutorial and excellent crafting planner, can you tell me how to level up my crafting a bit quicker please, its currently 137 and seems to take forever to get up just one level, I am crunching my trash using xp pots & boosters etc but i'm getting no where fast i'm actually starting to get frustrated.one other thing can I do anything with my old shards as I have a ton of them, any advice would be appreciated.
Hey Iggy, old crafted shards can be thrown out since there is nothing you can do with them in the new system.
See the video description for how to level quickly. Deconning your junk is good to get essences but not a good way to level. If you have enough essences and follow those instructions, you can get to low 300's in less than 30 mins :-)
thanks I have gone from 137 to 189 with the essences I have also using both bound and unbound when necessary, just one thing I noticed your Armour class 154 I have the same shadow armour as you and mine is only 50 no wonder I keep dying how come yours is so high ?
yvw, glad you found it helpful and getting to 189 is a nice boost :-)

Like others, I've been away from the game for a long time. I appreciate the beginner's tutorial, because I couldn't make sense of what I stepped back into.
From the old method, my crafting character has many of the old crafting shards - both bound and unbound. Is there anything to do with these to make them useable, or do I just destroy them?
Hi Ben, wb! I think you can crunch them into essences but other than that there's no use for the old shards.
Very helpful. Thank you!
yw, ty for commenting :-)
Thanks for the video!
yvw! :-)
it still needs to be refind for a better working and not so limiting system. We need to be able to put whatever we want whereever we want, just like the system generates items when it randomly generates them. I personally wont waste too much of my time with the systen until we can.
I agree that the system needs refinement and that we need greater flexibility and where we can craft stats. It's a really nice gap filler for heroics and early to mid epics tho :-)
Sorry if you covered this in vid, as I watched it a while ago and don't want to review it. If I craft an item over lvl 10 but, without filling extra slot, can I use it now and fill it in the future without having to recraft what's already on it.
yup you can add any of the slots at any time
can you do anythong with the old crafting shards? or are they junk now (i tried to deconstruct in yhe coffee grinder no response )
Hey Mark, sry to say that you can't do anything with them. trash em.
Voodu Spyce thanks! btw can you direct me towards which video you go over your exceptionally high prr and mrr...your videos are great and got me enjoying the game again!
Glad you're enjoying the vids! I don't have a video specifically about my PRR and MRR. If you have specific questions lmk. If you're just coming back from a long break, you may not realize that you can get up to 36 extra PRR just from past lives (9 from 3x PDK and 27 from 9 divine epic past lives). You can also get 18 MRR from past lives... 9 MRR from deep gnome x3 and 9 from warlock x3.
Subscribed. Thanks you taught me alot! Thank you so much
yvw, glad you're enjoying the vids! :-)
Nice guide. Is there still no way to re-apply a minimum level shard to re-use gear as you
level? it seems prohibitive to low level crafting as the effect shards have the same
material cost at L1 as they do at L30. I've just started playing again after 18 months out
and TR'ed to learn the game again - at lot's changed ;-)
Hey Big, glad you found it helpful and welcome back! You hit the nail on the head... low level crafting is cost-prohibitive and there's no way to apply a new ml shard to an existing item :-(
I think what most people are doing, as I am, is to craft items for different level ranges like level 5, 10, 15, 20 for example. You can also make items that are generally good for any of your toons. Con, saves, sheltering, etc. are good for all toons and since this new system produces all BTA stuff, you can move it around easily, unlike the old system which was all BTC.
Thanks for replying. I've used it more now and whilst I I really, really like the new system (apart from
the outdated coffee grinders!) - the collectable cost is prohibitive, even on relatively unexceptional
recipes. However, ingredients are available in the store (how convenient :-)). In terms of game mechanics,
it doesn't really make sense to allow a 'create once and done' system; the shard costs do need
lowering though to reflect this (IMO of course). An alternative I guess would be to support the 'socketing'
of shards - as per augments. You could then remove the ones you really wanted to keep with a jeweller's
toolkit.
If you didn't see the link in the video description about where to farm collectables, be sure to check it out :-)
ugh bring back the old crafting system!
Why do acid over light? Is it because of the materials used or something?
Light is generally a better option.
Is this guide still relavent, or has crafting been changed since it was made?
Hey Nick, it's still accurate. There is one very important piece missing though, which is how to level quickly and efficiently. I have another shorter vid that shows how ruclips.net/video/yt1UQcIFde8/видео.html

I have these gems in my bag that I can't remember what they are for, one is Bloodstone and when I checked the wiki is went to a page for an item called "The Blood Stone" not the same thing the ones I have in my bag when you mouse over them just says Bloodstone, it's not a trinket and it's not for crafting because it won't go in my gem bag. Any idea what this could be and if it's now junk?
Gems in your blue bag are just for selling for plat. There is a gem called "Bloodstone" and that's different than the trinket called "The Blood Stone". Bloodstones are for selling, The Blood Stone is a historically incredibly valuable trinket that is now relegated to near junk unfortunately. I wish they'd update it with a slot and maybe deadly or armor piercing, but for now with just seeker on it, that are a lot of other multifaceted pieces of gear with seeker on it.
vendor trash basically on the ones I was asking about, I got invited to a guild and I asked them, thanks for the response here. Looking forward to watching more of you old videos.
There was a time when trolls burned newbs for big plat on auction with Bloodstones, thinking they were the trinket. Hence, why they renamed the trinket "The Blood Stone"
I just noticed the other day that peeps are still trying that with bloodstone gems
hey voodu, thanks for this amazing video! Really does elp, as i came back in dec 2016 from a 6 month break, and with a new crafting system things were crazy. So ater this video i can be crafting agan. :-D also could you please do a video showing your computer specs and how to get a higher framerate on a game? i would realy appreaciate it as im getting a new pc setup which can hopefully run the game on its highest setting thanks in advance have a good day
Hey B, glad you liked this one. Be sure to read the video description for notes on how to level quickly and efficiently.
My computer is nothing special. It's a middle of the road Dell XPS Intel core i7 3.4GHz that is about 3 years old.
oh ok cool thank you
if you put it on 1,25x speed its actually viewable. even then its like slow talking
is there a away to trade old shards for the new ones
Old shards are now useless, unfortunately, and there's nothing to do with them. Old essences and crafting supplies can be traded for new tho.
Voodu Spyce thx
One more thing, where can we get a blank trinket?
cheapest is to use a shard of power from the shroud. Not great or supreme, just a regular tier 1 shard of power can be disjuncted and used as a crafting blank. You can also purchase a trinket from the ddo store for 150TP. They aslo drop in chests but extremely rarely. Shroud shards ftw :-)
Does anyone make a sub-basic guide to new Cannith crafting? I cant even find any quests that give me house cannith faction nor can I figure out how to complete the dumb intro to crafting quest in House K.
They could have just traded the old crafting stuff for the new ones automatically... I don't understand why they didn't.
So basically, you have to make a choice between crafting and platinum? So like you need many alts just to support one crafter. This does not sound newb friendly.
You get plat from deconstructing items. Not as much as you'd get from selling to a vendor but you get some.
Ok, so it is like this, craft or auction house. Which when you are high level is a no brainer. But when low level.
but you cant craft a vorpal, so it still kinda sucks
The collectibles farm really burned me out. And the AH often doesn't have what you need. Crafting is not as obtuse as it used to be but it's still very inaccessible.
Hey Caius, farming anything can get so grindy that it can ruin the game from burnout. It's one of the many topics that I routinely discuss on my show. Try to get into the habit of grabbing collectibles while questing. Before you know it you'll have so many you won't know what to do with and then you'll be the one selling them on the shard exchange and making shards. If you've got friends and guildies, try to hit some of them up to see if they can give you a few here and there as you need them. A lot of veteran players have hundreds of just about any collectible. Stop by the live stream some time if you want to chat about it. I do a morning show every weekday from 9am-3pm ET on my channel and a late morning show at 11am ET on Saturday on DDOStream 🙂

@@vooduspyce oh the game is still fantastic for me. I was just burned out from collectibles. I'll definitely take it more slowly here on out and build up my collectibles naturally from playing. I'm not familiar with Twitch but I'd like to get into it soon. Thank you for the response ❤️
System is still broken in my opinion. In order to be effective, you have to transfer all gear to a crafting toon (so you don't lose levels when you TR). Who wants to do this stupid shuffle?
Hey Dan, not sure what you mean. You never lose your crafting levels, even when TRing.
Happy to hear that. I checked my toon last night, and see that I didn't lose my levels. For some reason, I thought all crafting levels were lost after a TR.
Hey voodo is there any good way to farm for the red bag? I've been collecting them since 2010ish and i still dont even have near enough to get enough to craft 1 simple item.
One of my personal favorites is LOD. 5 minutes on EN gets a fair amount of xp and 12 collectables, including a chance at some of the new rare ones.
If you haven't seen it, someone did a really nice writeup of where to farm collectables www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/478811-This-is-How-To-Farm-the-New-Collectables-System-Efficiently
Alright thank you very much
