This is very easy to distinguish Serbs from Kosovo from other speakers from the former Yugoslavia. Or sometimes they ask me to say something in Albanian because they're curious. And I believe because there's a lot of "sh", "ç" and "ë" and some "zh" and "y" sounds and vowels can be quite open sometimes that's why to someone Albanian Toske may sound like Portuguese and French, in my case. Or Italian but I've never been told that. In Gege, I feel like because vowel are close vowels then it may sound like Russian to untrained ears. And then people hear loanwords and think a language sounds like another one. But I find this confusion to be quite interesting and entertaining tbh

But I was doing some research and found out that Italian is also related to the indo-European language family, and that Albanian is spoken is some parts of Italy. As I understand it, while her parents did flee Kosovo before the war or just at the beginning, they moved back with Dua when she was 11. So I can see that helping with her Albanian fluency, if her parents were not already speaking it at home during her early years in the UK before the move.

She's from Kosovo and the guy is from Albania, these 2 countries have been separated for hundreds of years so different dialects were formed throughout the years, so north of Albania which is in the border with Kosovo speak more like us Kosovars because we have been in the same principalities (states run by princes) with them during the Middle Ages.
Yeah the differences between albanian dialects are just like the differences in american vs british english. But every other language has different dialects and in some languages the differences between those dialects are even deeper.

So i just learned a lot about this language in the comments lol it’s so interesting to me that there are people from the same country, but have different dialects. It’s fascinating and i think the way they both speak is amazing
It's like american english vs british english
She's from Kosovo and the guy is from Albania, these 2 countries have been separated for hundreds of years so different dialects were formed throughout the years, so north of Albania which is in the border with Kosovo speak more like us Kosovars because we have been in the same principalities (states run by princes) with them during the Middle Ages.

Just wanted to clarify that she is from Kosovo, an Albanian-speaking country. Her parents were as well, and they fled from Kosovo to London bc of all the conflicts happening there at the moment.
