      Now if you look at the records, you'll find that under my leadership, we've implemented a working week plan that runs from Monday to Friday. And as part of that plan, we've included Saturdays as an essential part of every weekend moving forwards. Now what's incumbent on us as a government is to ensure that there's a day after Saturday that makes up approximately 50% of the weekend, and our working week plan accounts for that. As I'm sure you'll remember, what I said to this committee last time I was here was that as a government, we're committed to delivering a day each week that will follow Saturday, and we have appointed a Working Week Minister whose role it will be to secure the future of those days moving forward."

    "anyone arriving here illegally can't stay".... so Rishi Sunak publicly IS stating he doesn't believe that anyone can be an asylum seeker. You have to leave your country and enter another country illegally when fleeing for your life. This has been standard practice since the legalities around people seeking safety and asylum began and you DON'T have to stop in the first safe country you arrive in and you don't have to arrive legally. You get in a safe country by whatever means you can and then claim asylum once you arrive.

    It's the ongoing Tory lie that asylum seekers are acting illegally by arriving on UK shores in small boats. They are NOT acting illegally, because under International Law anyone has the right to apply for asylum to any nation of their choosing. Only if after having been processed, and if then their application was rejected, would they THEN become an illegal immigrant. (Moreover there is an appeals procedure, and only after exhausting that would such a person become an illegal immigrant.
    The means of their arrival does NOT affect their legal status under International Law. And the ONLY reason such desperate people resort to crossing a dangerous channel in an over-crowded dinghy is because the Home Office have prevented them from coming to the UK by ship or by aeroplane.
    It is the UK GOVERNMENT which is acting illegally, by flauting International Law, and NOT the asylum seekers.

      @time Why are they all young men deserting their families to their desperate fate!

    • @timelwell7002
      @timelwell7002 6 месяцев назад

      @@chatham43 They're NOT all young men. That's another false assertion by the right wing who wish to hoodwink the public into believing that they're all just 'economic migrants.' Not that there's anything wrong with being an economic migrant.
      But in most cases, whatever age or gender they may be, they are for the most part traumatized, having escaped a war zone, or death squads, etc, and many have lost their families to the bombs and the bullets. Some have seen their wives, sisters, mothers raped and/or murdered in front of them.
      What people like yourself who make such assertions miss is the VERY grim reality of life in places such as South Sudan, Eritrea, Yemen, etc.

      So your saying anyone has a right to escape the country, and illegally enter the UK passing many safe countries on the way, and pay tax to house and feed them?

    • @timelwell7002
      @timelwell7002 6 месяцев назад

      @@superguyx5468 Firstly, it is NOT illegal to enter the UK - or any other country for that matter - in order to claim asylum. Legally, it matters not one jot HOW you enter the country, whether by ship, passenger jet, or by a small boat.
      Secondly, there is NO law under International Law requiring asylum seekers to settle the first country they escape to. That too is a lie, perpetrated by the extreme right.
      Thirdly, the government has DELIBERATELY cut down on the number of people employed by the Home Office to process asylum applications - big time. This has meant that asylum applications now take up to 3 years, where it used to be FAR quicker.
      The reason they have done this is to create a convenient scapegoat so that people like YOU will either vote Tory or vote Reform UK in order to keep their extreme Free Market economic system in place and to screw over ordinary people like you and me.
      Moreover, contracts to house asylum seekers (at HUGE public expense) have been awarded to the dodgy donors of the Tory Party.
      So, for the Tories, they've funnelled massive public funds into the hands of their dodgy donor mates, by numerous means, this being just one of them. The Tories are VERY good at this - taking OUR money and giving to their greedy buddies - with kickbacks for individual Tory Ministers, of course.
      It's called CORRUPTION.
      Almost without exception, asylum seekers want to work and pay their way, but the government have made it illegal for them to work UNTIL their asylum application has been processed. It's the UK GOVERNMENT which has turned this into a means to create a scapegoat in order to hide their real purposes and to enrich themselves and their buddies.
      Lastly, other countries have taken in FAR more asylum seekers than the UK.
