My advice for the French. The light squared bishop isn't just bad because it's passive, it's also bad because attempts to trade it off are usually even worse than letting it be bad. Your video on playing the French Exchange with Bd6, Ne7, etc. queenside castle has won me nearly every game I've had with it, including a win against a titled player. I've adopted it as my pet opening and have found a ton of killer attacking lines in it.

Then it's my move and the board shrinks and I'm under house arrest and the clock is ticking faster and faster and faster, and I'm hoping I am not being streamed in some "How to beat an Idiot" video NOW though I've learned to calm down a little more and I can see the value of squares as well as pieces, it's a bit like Scrabble and having a triple letter square. In just over a few weeks I don't just see pieces (32), I see bus routes, journey times and rest stops, It's amazing. Thought this was interesting: At 36:29 in the Bird game, Eric correctly predicted Rf1 check, but his rook on A3 was hanging. If black takes the rook (which Stockfish says is the best move), Eric would have Ne4 discovered check. From that point, any of the 3 king moves leads to a royal fork, and blocking with either knight leads to a (messy) forced mate. Watching the video, I saw the hanging rook but not the crushing follow-up.
at 37:00 hahahah eric follows the principle "if you see a normal mate, look for the more complicated one" .... if queen blocks you just take with queen and it's mate on the spot, but nope, rook mate taking advantage of the pin, yup that's better

I'm still shocked at how many people castle into the Stafford. You don't need to learn any theory, just don't castle and you'll be much safer than if you castled kingside. Then just don't leave your queen undefended on d1 and you'll be golden. Even Qf3 is very playable.

It does at first seem like an advantage, but it just isn’t. It’s more distracting than anything.
