  • @romxxii

    loved how you started off in robot mode, then went to alt mode, then finally to gestalt. I can almost hear Scrapper saying "Constructicons, transform! Phase 1! Now, Transform! Phase 2!"
    your reviews are, as always, concise and clear. Keep it up, peaugh.

    Devastaor is such an iconic combiner. I'd love to get an Encore or proper Universe remake.

    Around the orginal debut of devastator, he was in my opinion one of the best transformers in the series. I love how they brought him back in the Transformers 2, the new look just made him more awsome. I think we can all agree on that.

    Thanks very much for sharing this :D. G1 Transformers makes up some of my happiest childhood memories; and I've never actually seen the constructicon toys made to form Devastator! This is a real treat for me, one I thought I'd never have :D

    Devastator was by far and away the coolest looking combiner. Although the Beast Wars combiners, magnaboss and tripredacus were amazing. I wish they'd redo devastator with larger more complicated articulated figures. But keep this same set up.

  • @anixben
    @anixben 9 лет назад +7

    Can you do a review with this kind of style for old time's sake? Completely unedited, quiet voice, and the good ol' simple intro, "This is the video review"

  • @fxfranz
    @fxfranz 16 лет назад +1

    this is one G1 set of figure that i didn't mind keeping. side by side the new TF universe Devastor, he doesn't look that great. but unlike the Universe version, this G1 combiner has unique positions for each constructicon when combining. with the newer version, the legs and arm figures are interchangeable and are just repaints.
    thanks for doing this one

  • @ExaggeratedElegy
    @ExaggeratedElegy 15 лет назад +1

    Interestingly, the leader of the Constructicons is the right leg, Scrapper. In the universe entries, it points out that Megatron chose him as the leader of the team over Hook owing to the fact that he is amiable and able to motivate the Constructicons whereas Hook is snobbish, aloof and alienating by nature.

  • @Transfixed
    @Transfixed 12 лет назад +1

    Bonecrusher! He was my favourite. Great transformation and great name.

  • @DevilMaster
    @DevilMaster 14 лет назад +1

    That was a problem with the original Devastator too, a problem they tried to pass as a feature in the cartoon. There was a scene where Soundwave says "Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior" then he starts pounding the ground near Devastator, and Devastator immediately falls apart.

  • @InnSewerAnts
    @InnSewerAnts 14 лет назад +2

    Oo memories from way back for me :)
    Loved this one, it was the worst combiner though technically, with the flimsy hip piece,considering its intended to be played with by boys and the others like bruticus had some more articulation left after combining. but still awesome toys and a very fond memory for me. Thumbs up for the vid.

    @MarioPeachYoshi64 A combiner is a group of transformers that can turn into one big transformer, or a giant robot to simply say. Some of the most recognizable groups in the series are the Constructicons turn into Devastator , the Combaticons turn into Bruticus, Protectobots turn into Defensor, and the Technobots turn into Computron.

    you may not believe me, but in 2008, i was in walgreens and I seen a bootleg version of devastator. the Whole set was about seven dollars. of course the packaging was different and the stickers were different, but it was still the same cool toy. so, if you have a walgreens near by, be on the lookout in the toy section

  • @VulpisFoxfire

    It's also possible they were one of the re-issues that was done replacing the die-cast parts with plastic..though I don't recall if the 'mostly plastic' re-issue was ever done in the original green-and-purple or not. The one I recall off hand was a set with them in these *awful* bright yellow and orange colors.

  • @lanceman24

    Hi this devastator that was reviewed is actually the Japan remake, how you can tell is that the Japan remake doesn't have Chrome on Mixmasters Grill, Hook's hook, and there is no chrome between Hooks body. This one isn't the orginal but it looks great, holds together and saves big bucks.

    I kind of like it that way. If it was in real life, with all that weight, it would be hard for him to stand up straight. Of course they can do it in the cartoon but in reality, I don't think he would be able to stand up straight so he ends up having to crawl.

  • @PhantomRenegades94

    They could get Frank Welker, they just didn't think his Megatron voice fit with the movie version very well, which I agree. They're not going to use the original Devastator voice because Devastator in the movie doesn't have much intelligence, it's more of a wild animal.

    @crazyburrito1 I think he was talking about buying the bootleg versions you see in discount stores all the time and painting them up and adding stickers so that they look like the official Transformers versions. It is kinda n00bish, but on the other hand the bootlegs are way cheaper.

    @bbphnix This was G1 though, back before the combiner parts could be intergrated into the component bots. When you compare it to todays stuff it might suck, but back in the 80's this was awesome.

  • @VulpisFoxfire
    @VulpisFoxfire 15 лет назад

    Not really--Devastator's kind of unique there, as well as being unique in having 6 bots. All the other combiner teams are basically the same (and often can be interchangable between teams in the same sub-line like G1 or Energon)--a larger 'core' bot who's the team leader, and 4 'limbs' with a handful of addon parts (foot-plates, fists, and a helmet). The Seacons mix it up a little in that there's an extra 'limb' bot, and all of them can be turned into a weapon mode that the combined bot holds.

  • @ZeldaTheSwordsman
    @ZeldaTheSwordsman 14 лет назад

    @MisterMortombachman No, the next Masterpiece should be Ultra Magnus' trailer, so that he can ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE THE ULTRA MAGNUS WE ALL KNOW!
    And also, Masterpiece Rodimus Prime was very necessary. G1 Devastator's original toy, while rather a brick and short next to modern figures, can still tower over his contemporaries. However, the G1 Rodimus Prime figure is too small to re-enact his debut scene where he picks up Galvatron and throws him through Unicron's side. Roddy needed a new toy more.

  • @OnyxLeo

  • @ShadowXZeos

    How is it that a thirty year old design of a transforming combing toy has alt, robot and combiner modes while the most recent one with so much advanced technology around only is restricted to combiner and alt modes.

  • @ZeldaTheSwordsman
    @ZeldaTheSwordsman 14 лет назад

    @kakarot998 Those of us who weren't masturbating in physics instead of paying attention understand what was with that. In a live action film, you have to try and follow the laws of physics a little more than you do in a cartoon. Devastator is hunched over on all fours because of the square cube law. And he was certainly scary in his own way.

    Not really, Takara bought some versions of GI Joe from Hasbro and shrunk them to fit in their vehicles and stuff as pilots in the late 60`s, a hasbro personel was in japan for vaccation and thought that the robots would work nice without the pilots and bought the rights for "microman/diaclone" robots, hired some writers to give them a backstory and a unifying name and repackaged them, cause in japan they never thought about robots without human control, it would be too absurd

    I have all of the original 80's constructicons, and all have chrome. Hook and Scavenger have actual diecast parts. In this video (especially at 0:10) it is clearly seen that Hook and Scavenger have plastic where there should be metal. And finally, my Constructicons have RUB SIGNS. These do not. The Knock offs are still cool and everything, but they honestly can't compete with the orginal G1's. (Yes I do sound like I don't have a life, but I am avid about transformers. Please excuse me. lol)

  • @carnut015

    @goldenshyguy3600 Ebay is the place I have found ALL the bots and combiner pieces. Sometimes, the combiner parts are included with the different 'cons. Be aware that Hook is more expensive than the others. Also, the ration of broken hooks (feet usually) to intact versions can be discouraging. Don't give up. If you want a REAL devastator on your shelf, it can be obtained.

  • @SURROUNDEDBYCOMMENTS
    @SURROUNDEDBYCOMMENTS 13 лет назад

    Yes, these are knock-offs. They're not the original. They don't have chrome metal parts and I think they're also smaller in scale. You can also see the decepticon symbol, it doesn't have eyes! xD

  • @ZeldaTheSwordsman
    @ZeldaTheSwordsman 14 лет назад

    @sasuke86420 This is the original 1980s Devastator. He was more intelligent and thanks to being a cartoon character had the freedom to defy the square cube law.
    The film one was impressive, but none of its main toys are. One is formed from six Constructicons. The other is formed from seven. The one the film? Formed from nine. DAMN IT HASBRO!
