  • Wersja angielska filmu MIASTO ZATOPIONYCH BOGÓW. The film “City of the Sunken Gods” tells the mysterious story of Wolin, a small Polish town on the Baltic coast associated with ancient legends. One of them is about a wealthy city called Wineta, which was flooded by the sea and is now under water; another is about a Viking stronghold called Jomsborg, whose story is told in the Old Scandinavian sagas.
The legends are confronted with the results of archaeological research conducted in the locality. The film presents them in combination with virtual reconstructions of early medieval Wolin and re-enactments of events that happened over a thousand years ago.
There is evidence to confirm that at the turn of the 10th and 11th century there was a large and prosperous Slavic port on the site of present-day Wolin with a marked presence of Scandinavian merchants, craftsmen, and warriors. At one time it could have been a place where Vikings stationed. Thanks to the influx and transit of Arabian silver and the local Viking culture Wolin’s trading emporium was a centre of paramount importance for the nascent Polish state.
