  • Moon Knight episode 2 deepened the mystery of the show, introducing us to mercenary Marc Spector, and explaining his bargain with Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon. Marc swore to be Konshu's avatar, to be the fist of vengeance, and Steven--one of his multiple personalities--is along for the ride. But when you go back and look at the comics, you see that Khonshu is not a benevolent god. He forced Marc into servitude, and manipulated him for his entire life, taking advantage of his illness. In this video, we break down why Khonshu might actually be the villain behind the show.

    #MoonKnight #Konshu #Episode2
Well, episode 2 of Moon Knight was quite the escalation, wasn’t it? The ending raises some important questions about Khonshu, and his true nature. Because he’s clearly far from being a benevolent god. He seems to be more on the evil side.
So what does Khonshu really want? Can Moon Knight trust him? And what does the god want with Layla?
Let’s explain the unique relationship between Moon Knight and Khonshu. And what all of it means for Moon Knight’s story.
Right from episode 1 it was clear that Khonshu is not such a nice entity.
I mean he went all-horror-monster movie on Steven. And he did the same thing again in this episode. I mean relax, bird-face, you are an 8 foot-tall being with a floating head. You are scary as it is, no need for all the theatrics. And he’s really mean to the poor Steven.
But now episode 2 sheds new light on the moon god.
Marc’s deal with Khonshu is very complicated, even if we don’t use the comics to explain it.
Marc is Khonshu’s avatar, he is the first of vengeance. He’s meant to deliver the god’s justice.
And they are fighting against Arthur Harrow and his cult, who are serving the way too judgmental goddess, Ammit. And once Ammit is freed, she will kill countless people for crimes they have not yet committed.
So on paper, Harrow and Ammit are the bad guys, and Khonshu is more of a jerk who’s not really evil. But it’s a bit more complicated than that.
Before we begin explaining Khonshu’s true motivations, we have to discuss the big twist of episode 2. And it’s that Arthur Harrow was Khonshu’s avatar before Marc.
    And this is important.
For starters this is a major change for the show, since Harrow wasn’t a servant of Khonshu in the comics.
Marc isn’t the first Moon Knight, there have been countless others who had served the moon god over the ages.
We don’t know that much about Harrow’s time as the previous Moon Knight, but he seems to be a pretty bloodthirsty and a brutal individual. I mean it takes a special kind of person to go from serving a moon god to becoming a cult leader. So I would assume he wasn't the best person to begin with.
Khonshu sure knows how to pick them.
And that’s it really, the god seems to prey on the desperate and the mentaly ill. Those who are already unstable, the type of people he can manipulate easier.
Marc is suffering from dissociative identity disorder, and he has a bloody past because of his mercenary life. So basically making a deal with Khonshu is like making a deal with the devil.
Being Khonshu’s Fist of vengeance means delivering his own sense of justice. But there is a huge difference between justice and vengeance. Khonshu claims he’s fighting for justice, but in truth he wants vengeance. It’s a contradiction, because justice cannot be done out of selfish reasons, it needs to be honest and fair. Vengeance is about revenge, it’s about making yourself feel better for selfish and personal reasons. It’s biased. And for Khonshu it’s about hurting those he punishes, making them pay with violence and pain.
And this brings us to Khonshu’s true nature. He’s not a belevenont god. He appeared as such early in Moon Knight's stories.
But in recent stories, he became more of an antagonist to Moon Knight. In fact, Khonshu has been established as a malignant entity.
Khonshu is a vengeful, brutal, jealous and at times sadistic god.
And based on how Khonshu is presented in the first couple episodes, the god is far from being Marc’s ally, he’s someone who just manipulates and tries to control him.
Ever since Marc made a deal with Khonshu to save his life, the god has been manipulating and exploiting Marc’s body and mental state.
But recent stories in the comics have revealed Khonshu’s true nature. The show is heavily influenced by the two stories that exposed the god for what he really is, and those stories give us some hints to what we can expect from the god in the show.

He's a Jaded elder god but not a villain especially since he cares about human life and Justice just on a different realm of perspective then we do. I just found your channel dude and I'm loving your theories and breakdowns of the characters in this episode. I wonder if Steven would be a repressed personality that Marc has made to cope with losing Layla that's why Steven has so many similarities with her interest and knowledge. I really enjoyed this 2nd episode of Moon Knight it was great seeing the dynamic between Steve and Marc as personalities but they both can agree to disagree while Steve is still horrified by Marc's violent actions in seeing that Justice is done. Steve clearly sees through the Amitt Egyptian cult BS 💯 😂. The first and second episodes of Moon Knight were great as I expected and I can't wait until DR STRANGE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS AND THOR LOVE AND THUNDER IS GOING TO BE EPIC ⛈️⚡ 😎. Awesome I've always wanted to see a horror mental illness martial arts movie or show about how Konshu turns Marc Spector into BADASS MOON KNIGHT I knew this would be DOPE 😎👊. It's cool to see Oscar Isaac getting a second chance to shine in a Disney film because he was wasted in The Sequel Trilogy of Star Wars but he pulls off the British accent so well I can't distinguish it from his real voice and he really KILLED IT WITH THAT MULTIPLE PERSONALITY THING. 360TH COMMENT I'M EARLY ASFLIP 👊. THIS IS GOING TO BE EPIC. Seeing Dr Strange teaching Wanda to control her Scarlet Witch magical abilities and facing cosmic Multiversal level threats is awesome 😎. This has nothing to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.
I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.
Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years
ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of but not macro or micro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

I love how the reluctant avatar will thematically connect to the rest of the midnight sons. They are all relatively reluctant characters that bear some power or curse unwillingly yet in the past decided to be this way. Wanda Maximoff volunteered to be tested upon by Strucker (though like Marc's potential underlying D.I.D. was destined to be the scarlet witch through her latent connection to chaos magic). Johnny Blaze ultimately decides to become the spirit of vengeance to save a loved one yet he is also doomed to this great power he really doesn't want. The Day walker is himself the reluctant vampire, a cursed half breed choosing to hunt down his own kind like vermin. Frank Castle is the reluctant soldier whose life as a weapon of the military destroyed his family, his abilities and life are no less tragic than the rest despite the fact that he is entirely human and without supernatural abilities (besides maybe his will to live). He chose to embrace his military life over his familial life up until he had no family to come home to. Dane Whitman as the black knight is I guess the reluctant decendant whose family heirloom and history is his curse and power. His choice is less obvious to me since I know probably the least about him but I am guessing his choice to embrace the curse of his family is where the choice comes into play. He could remain in the dark about his families history as most people do in modern day yet he doesnt, uncovers the dark history of his familiy and literally wields the cursed family heirloom. This is why I am most excited for the midnight sons direction the MCU is going. However I will be extremely disappointed if this connective theme between all of the "sons" isn't explored or realized in their formation.

I just imagine the team coming together to stop whatever threat they are facing cohesively, rather than having to be forced like the Avengers. The Avengers were a group of extremely different people that all had to be pushed into doing good together but this team can be the team that just "fit" together. That didn't butt heads (or at least as strongly) but instead embraces their similarities to form the most cohesive fighting unit in MCU history (except for maybe Cap's outcast team). That would be fresh as hell to see them all bond over their decisions to become who they are and why because everyone of them can relate to the decisions the others made.

What if layla is being used as a tool to manipulate steven into taking certain actions? I think konshu is using the threat of making her his avatar to keep marc for himself. Steven is the only one succeeding at preventing marc from his mission. Marcs mission seems to be to get free of konshus grasp. Who would want to stop that other than konshu? By manipulating steven (the weaker doubtful personality) it undermines marcs efforts (the strong and confident personality).

I have a feeling Khonshu used Mark to kill Layla’s father to ensure that when he needs to switch over to Layla, he can expose this truth and easily turn her towards a desire for vengeance. So, long story, long-yes, I believe you are right that another alter may have done it. I’m wondering if Mark “awoke” after the other more violent alter had killed Layla’s father. The only other idea I had, is that Khonshu may have been using Layla’s dad as an avatar and maybe that relationship went sour and Khonshu switched from using Layla’s dad as an avatar and began using Oscar Issacs’ character. The moon has phases. The moon is often connected with lunacy. Khonshu actually seems some times kind to his avatar, assuring him he will protect him and seemingly valuing him, other times he seems threatening and manipulative. The MCU does not always follow the current comic book tales. Frequently it includes elements that touch upon the comic books but are not the same. Just a suggestion here but rather than Khonshu necessarily being the bad guy per se. Perhaps it is possible that he was drawn to Marc/Steven/etc because he also has multiple personalities/phases? Perhaps these were not as pronounced previously? Possibly they have become more pronounced and harder to control? Perhaps, something has happened to him and Marc that has made it hard to control the shift from dominant to sub personalities?
I think it's possible that they could at one time more easily control that transition and now they can't for some reason. Marc says as much to Steven. He seems to be referencing his control of his personalities but it is possible that Khonshu is suffering a similar problem. Steven is clearly capable intellectually. He takes in vast amounts of information reading almost constantly when he can. One can well imagine that this was a personality called forth when the avatar needed to absorb lots of information in a short period of time, i.e nerd avatar, I suspect there's also a ladies man or smooth Mr Fixit type like the Face Man in the A Team and likely other personalities too, maybe a journalist type who can root out information etc? But these characters are now, apparently, randomly taking over. Not surprisingly the intellectual one being the more dominant suddenly. If something similar is also happening to Khonshu it would explain the temper tantrums contrasting with the 'gentle protective Khonshu'. Also if he's already had this, but likely not as pronounced, it might explain why the other so-called gods don't like him We should not wholly trust Arthur Harrow's comments but a little truth mixed with lies makes them more believable and Arthur clearly knows this.

The other option that is overlooked entirely is that the Ennead all deal with infighting for dominion (power, authority, and jurisdiction) and use their ‘servants’ aka “powered humans” as avatars to carry their will out while the Ennead are occupied with each other.
The larger picture is that the 1st Ennead + the Pharaoh = the 10 gods of Mitzrayim (Egypt)were defeated by HASHEM, the God of the Hebrews/Jews during the time of Moshe at the event of Pesach (Passover) and the Exodus. 10 gods, 10 plagues - Shemot (Exodus) 12:12.
It is also no coincidence that this show is being released during the actual season of Pesach (Passover) aka, Easter.

I theorize the entity called KONSHU might not be a villain; But I do have a strong feeling he once was taken control of by an evil entity, and I theorize he might of been forced to do many horrible deeds before he figured out a way to break himself free.
In addition I theorize that is why KONSHU is so very uptight, sometimes very violent, to why he was so desperate to find a mortal to be a warrior, and who would use his powers to fight against wrong doers, and to add against evil of almost any type.

Here's what I think happened: Marc was lost and full of self-loathing, totally at his worst, just how Konshu wants his avatars, and for a while Marc did everything that was asked of him as Moon Knight. Then at some point Marc found Layla and attempted to make amends with her and probably looked after her as a friend, unable to tell her why he was alive and her father was not, not truly feeling worthy of his second chance at living. Eventually a romance occurred, they got married and after a while, something strange happened: Marc actually started to get better. He was happier, he probably was more open with her than he is now, their relationship was affectionate, and he found himself healing and his distaste for his work as Moon Knight was growing and he wanted to just live a normal life with his wife. This is a problem for the Moon God, and he plays the only card he has: Marc's wife. That made Marc backslide and believe that he would never be free. Then his mother died, and he finally snapped and the one comforting presence he had left (Steven) took the wheel, setting this whole story into motion.

Khonshu is maybe connected to the villian since Arthur said when he was his Avatar he grew tired of punishing the ones who already did something. - You know. Khonshu "ideals" was the start for Arthur to think like he said in the show - strike before act is commited.
-. But to me Khonshu seems that he maybe knows this all started thanks to him. So now he tries to keep Marc (in Future ) Steven maybe even his third indentity (Jake?) In the lane. if Marc keeps working for him there won't be any other tries to "strike before ctíme is commited" (kill the child before that kid can do anything etc)
Though Khonshu's actions? They will do some problems. He and Marc thinks that Marc is the only one for job And they still want to to "Cut Steven off" But I Hope they will learn to work together!
In my opinion. Khonshu is like a very old grumpy man who thinks it HAVE TO BE his way. That's not a villian vibe. He And Marc needs to face situation when they will need Steven. 😂

If u look at konshu powers its power from the dark dimension because its the same type of magic kaicelius was using in Dr Strange. Konshu is vengeance and order. So basically order leads to chaos. Also Moon knight has 3 personalities.... Marc, Steven and Jake. Jake is the violent personality that's hidden and the show is teasing.

I am def curious how Harrow broke free of Khonshu . Or maybe his lying about that 🤔? I agree that Harrow will probably tempt marc/Steven about freedom from being an Avatar. Looking forward to Ep.3 and can I just say... I think Moon Knight's costume is currently the best in the MCU. Everytime I see it I'm like, the design team really did that!
