"You just keep grinding away in a men's league, and you'll eventually get your shot." - Scott Foster. This quote needs to be on t-shirts if it isn't already.
What a refreshing, down to earth athlete/accountant who has just embraced and savored the Walter Mitty experience of a lifetime. God bless him! He will be one of the great sports trivia questions ever: name the 36 year old accountant who put on the pads as emergency goalie for the Chicago Blackhawks and earned the first star of the game in his first and only NHL game: Answer Scott Foster.
He's hilarious and great in interviews. I'm just so happy for him. They flew him to Vegas to be a co-presenter on stage at the NHL Awards too. They put him in the Blackhawks Alumni too.
4 minute post game, longer than most hockey stars, and he handled it better than any pro. Witty , not nervous , funny and not just saying nonsense. Harder than you would think with 15 cameras and 5 microphones stuffed in your face
I'm really surprised no one offered him a real contract after that performance... Very well spoken down to earth guy... Very likable personality... I was reading he became a overnight hero and sensation
Hey Scott... besides your great performance in the net, I loved it; but to me it was your interview after wards. .Your words and responses showed who you really are. Keep that video because it shows you as a person. that your kids need to watch.... Thank you .
I grew up going to Western Michigan University Hockey games. I always was fascinated with the goalies and one time was waiting by the tunnel they came out of on to the ice I got Scott, who at the time I believe was the 3rd string, to sign my WMU jersey! If only I could find that jersey. I remember him being so puzzled and almost taken aback when I asked him for it. Little did I know I’d be getting an autograph from a future NHL-er! Too funny!
Great interview, great sense of humor and great job in the net! I am glad you were the one that got the chance to play in this game it could not have happen to a nicer guy.
This is why I love sports. On any given night at any given game for any given sport, there's always the potential for something magical like this to happen!
Great interview, maybe one of the best in the past decade within sports. Awesome for him, from a Flyers fan who may or may not be still sour about patrick Kane's draft lottery, then again Kanes goal in games 6.... Congratulations. My only question for Scott is why weren't you available for the Flyers Leighton in 2010?! we might have won that cup if we didn't have a goalie that couldn't stop a beach ball in net! Jokes aside congrats Scott, hope they give you the pro treatment for a day and enjoy the moment!
Accountant: "Play goalie in NHL game. Make incredible saves in front of television audience." Check. 👍 This guy can LITERALLY start every bar conversation for the rest of his life with, "When I played goalie for the Blackhawks...."
this video got recommeded me just now. I do not watch NHL (->european here). But i love those third hero Moments and in whatever sport might be that they do well and make themself a positive reputation. If this guy stop to play officially, he will hold a 100% save record 😂.
Imagine with a full time trainer and good food this guy would of been playing 1000 games in the NHL he stands nice and firm in the pocket his hugging the post needs work but his reaction time and tall stance make it hard for the players to go shelf. I know bros probably the best in his men’s league
So could someone explain to me more details behind the scenes? In other sports, you just sit on the bench as a backup. For example: in the NBA, you run out of guards in the actual game, or they get injured, you use the backup. If he gets injured, maybe a 3rd stringer. If you run out of Guards, usually a Small Forward can run the ball. Why did they dig deep for this? Someone who doesn't sit on the bench every game. It's someone who clearly is from the "streets". If he was good enough to be called up as an emergency, why doesn't a team pick him up? Or why doesn't their farm team use him? Sorry, I don't watch a ton of hockey. But have seen a few live games, as well as TV games.
Teams have 2 goalies. But if both of those goalies got hurt, the team would be toast So the nhl has a group of guys that attend the games and are there just in case both goalies on a team get hurt So yes, it’s just a guy that knows how to play hockey but not at the nhl level Minor league goalies aren’t available for that job, cuz they’re in the minors. So they rely on just random guys from the street. They aren’t used often so that’s why they’re just “street” guys The Olympic teams will have 3 goalies though, cuz it’s the Olympics Stanley cup playoffs would be the same way too
Yep, as "thekeys2life" said, home team has to provide an emergency goalie to be used (if needed) by either team. Each team will dress 2 goalies. They can be changed at any time and come back in at any time of the game. However once the 2 dressed goalies are injured the emergency goalie is asked to go in. see his stats here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Foster_(ice_hockey)
This is actually an extremely solid post game interview guy speaks well nice job all night man
I agree this is a solid interview. Doesn't studder as much as the NHLers
Cause he's an educated accountant
Scott also possesses an excellent, deadpan, self-effacing sence of humour. I could imagine him in a sitcom.
Thought exact same thing , really good answers , relaxed , funny , most nhl stars would do well to watch his interview style
Answered those questions like a true beer leaguer.
Jason H. Legend
even his PR is on point.
this guy can’t be stopped!
Joshua Surber Yeah he's a SUPER accountant, I'll bet he now gets to be a TV host or something ;)
Scott Foster will retire from the NHL with the highest save percentage in the NHL, 100%.
Incorrect
meaning he never plays again in nhl, hes one of 8 players to record a 1.000 save percentage in a game
"You just keep grinding away in a men's league, and you'll eventually get your shot." - Scott Foster. This quote needs to be on t-shirts if it isn't already.
I hope he grabbed a ton of memorabilia on his way out of the locker room...
"Let's grab one of Kane's skates, Hossa's glove, Keith's sweater..."
salsanacho hossa hasn’t played all season..
I know, but he's one of the more well known Blackhawks
Not Hossa's. He's gonna get a rash.
Peter Bojarinov hahahaha
This guy funny and so positive and did well!
I’ve watched this over the years maybe a dozen times and I still cant get over what a class act the guy was in the post-game press interviews.
What a refreshing, down to earth athlete/accountant who has just embraced and savored the Walter Mitty experience of a lifetime. God bless him! ... He may be back in some capacity.... Front office ?
Accountant by day, NHL Hero by night.
This is probably the best post-game interview I've ever seen...
He's hilarious and great in interviews. I'm just so happy for him. They flew him to Vegas to be a co-presenter on stage at the NHL Awards too. They put him in the Blackhawks Alumni too.
Accountants are witty as hell.
We try to keep it a secret, though.
His play was great. His interview skills are even better.
"did you see joel quennville laughing" "i think i would too" holy shit the fuckin quick wit LOL
And a hero was born! That guy rocks!
What a great guy!
Stellar in-game performance and an even better post-game interview. Class act. How can you not love the NHL?
This is why it is important to go finish school. Look at him. Such a well spoken guy.
A truly class act. Congratulations Scott hockey fans are smiling this morning.
What do you expect from a good Canadian boy? Humble and funny, all class - way to go brother!
4 minute post game, longer than most hockey stars, and he handled it better than any pro. Witty , not nervous , funny and not just saying nonsense. Harder than you would think with 15 cameras and 5 microphones stuffed in your face
I still watch these clips with a big smile on my face. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
A smooth natural... " what pressure ? "... Haaaaa ! A BOSS !!
Hell yes, that was awesome!
I'm really surprised no one offered him a real contract after that performance... Very well spoken down to earth guy... Very likable personality... I was reading he became a overnight hero and sensation
Nope he played it perfectly. Retire a hero and never pay for a drink in a hockey bar ever again.

Here years later. What a story. His save on Stastny was actually a really good save . Not an easy stop at all. So cool
Great interview, great sense of humor and great job in the net! I am glad you were the one that got the chance to play in this game it could not have happen to a nicer guy.
This is why I love sports. On any given night at any given game for any given sport, there's always the potential for something magical like this to happen!
He better be keeping the jersey and have the entire team sign it. Excellent memento.

He's an intelligent guy.
It would be so awesome if he got a save of the year candidate save that game.
I used to work in Oak Park on Lake Street.
He was an accountant all day then played an NHL game at night.
WTF.???
Amazing
this is jus ducking cool!
His comments are like he has done a ton of interviews.
I was the back up goalie on my teams . I went 3-1. Two shut out patches 8-0 ,6-0.
The b*lls on that guy! Just went out there and did the job. I think a lot of regular guys would've been sick with nerves.
He is so nice.
you can tell this guy is really smart
Imagine what his next day at work was like! I would have thrown a party😂😂
He seems like the guy who would walk into work the next day and act like nothing ever happened
