- In this video, I show you how simple it is to move from LastPass to Bitwarden by exporting and importing your passwords in 2 easy steps. LastPass and Bitwarden are password managers that help you to stay secure online by generating and storing unique and complex passwords for each site you register on.
LastPass has recently made some changes to its product for users on the free tier, so many people are looking for an alternative solution. Bitwarden provides a similar experience to LastPass, it is open source, and free to use.
For more information on the changes to LastPass Free, check out my previous video here:

Great video, so I took your advice and deleted my account with LP and installed the free Bitwarden. So far I am liking it, however, two minor things on my Windows laptop 1) If I already have a password in Bitwarden vault and I launch the website I have to either go to the browser extension and select the account or right-click on the password field, then click on Bitwarden to fill in password ...... is there a way to do one click to fill a password either with the free account or the paid account? I don't mind paying as it's affordable. 2) This one bugs me, when I change any password, Bitwarden does not update the new password automatically, I have to add it manually in Bitwarden. If I am adding a new password for the first time it works perfectly fine but when I am changing a password I have to do it manually. If that's the way it works, could you recommend another password manager? Please don't say LP, I am so unhappy with them...... I will never go back to LP, what they are saying to free users is, on March 16th we are calling the new free service, FREE but we know most likely most people wouldn't be able to use and have to pay but we will still call it a free account. I don't know who LP thinks they are. I prefer to pay for another password manager than go back to LP .... oh well that's my rant.
Glad you liked the video. I can't say anything about the Bitwarden browser extension. I never used the LastPass browser extension and I'm not planning to use the Bitwarden one either.
So, I can't tell you how it works or whether it has the functionality that you are looking for. But Microsoft Authenticator password manager/autofill will automatically update your passwords. You need an extension if using Chrome or otherwise the functionality is built right into Edge.
(Update: RESOLVED this issue) I do not want to leave LastPass, but due to the issue i'm having with them, I've already exported/imported to BitWarden, I just have to test it out for a while before closing my LastPass paid account.
You've been helpful in giving me re-assurance that I'm not crazy.
I hope Bitwarden will turn out to be the right solution for you.
Great video with clear information. Thanks!
Thanks Alex!
Perfect - so helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Much better video quality.
Haha. I got my camera back.
I really needed this video, thanks so much!. I subscribed to your channel.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow. This is an amazing video. I have to say well edited. 😊
Thanks Hovindu!
This was helpful however I have exported from lastpass to a csv file. So I am not sure how to import that into bitwarden .I am exporting over 200 files/items so copy and past may not be an option. Also some help on the number of column items allowed would also be helpful.
I did like your video however I have been researching and with so much information, I am confused. Is it possible to copy and paste 286 login/passwords?
It is OK I have imported it and it was so easy. Thank you. :)
Thanks for the videlo Russell. I have a question. During the import/export of the passwords and copy/paste them on to the clipboard etc... does that not leave all the passwords vulnerable to attack? Thanks in advance!
I’m glad you liked it. Yes, it probably does. Just reboot your computer to clear the memory.
You can also open the Windows 10 Settings app (WIN + I), and in System > Clipboard, there is the option 'Clear clipboard data'. It might be useful if you don't want to reboot your PC.
Thanks@@RussellSmith . I have a Mac. In any case I didn't do copy and paste, but chose the option to download a CVS file. Which after uploading to bitwarden I deleted from the bin and re started my Mac book. I also used my phone data instead of WiFi while transferring the file. Fingers crossed that work all those measures there was no leaks!
@@Alice-zc6kw oh sorry. I’m glad you found a solution.
Wow great video with useful info. Quick question what is your editor
Thanks! Davinci Resolve.
@@RussellSmith thanks for the reply
@@dithira.h No problem.
What is your preferred password manager and why? LastPass, Bitwarden, or another solution?
LastPass
I've been a free LastPass user for the past few months, I was overall really satisfied with it but now I'll move to Bitwarden. I understand that LastPass want to make more profits but I am not in a position to pay for anything.
@@kasadam85 Great. The move to Bitwarden should be seamless.
How to move on phone?
Hi. I don’t think either the LastPass or Bitwarden mobile apps support export/import. You could try doing it by logging in using a mobile browser if you don’t have access to a desktop PC. But I’ve never tried it.
@@RussellSmith Already did it manually. Thanks
