I had the peculiar fortune to meet Wilson briefly in the early ‘70s in Isla Vista CA when he was doing an early gig in a tiny Mexican restaurant. A local friend of mine, Jeff, went to high school with Wilson in nearby Goleta, and told me that he had just returned from Vietnam. I heard him several times more in the Santa Barbara area landmark “Cold Springs Tavern”, and was always impressed. Some harp men don’t dare trying to cover Little Walter, but he does it better than anyone else I’ve ever heard.
Hard-working Kim Wilson has earned his place in harmonica history. He's a maestro with his harps and BIG tone! To see him in person, and dance while he rips, is the most satisfying stuff of life! He finally won a grammy! More than 50 yrs of playing and it ALL SHOWS!! Probably the BEST HARP PLAYER alive today and maybe even better than Walter whether it's BIG or LITTLE, Kim can match their skills with just a harp, amp and mic!
Same. I’ve found a lot of the standards offer similar riffs with slight variations. Whammer jammer, Juke, Walters Boogie, they all share similar licks. Makes it a lot of fun to improvise during jam breaks.
I met Kim years ago when he put out "Tiger Man". He was playing a fairly small club and I got there a few hours early. He was sitting at the bar, and I walked up and started talking with him. He was very cordial and easy to talk with. I had known other bluesmen, like Sam Myers, Sugar Ray Norcia, and Darrell Nulisch, among others. They all have had an easy way about them. That's what's so good about blues. You don't get as much big ego as in other music forms. Very much down to earth.
This guy has listened closely to Little Walter....he had a band called the Nightcats back in the early 50's. They had a sizeable hit with a record called 'Juke'.
Love Big Walters version, but this one is even better! I’ll be learning this one over the next couple months. Kim is the King of groove, has such a velvet tone, and even his head movement is swinging ahead and behind the beat. I strive to be as good as him one day.
My favorite harp player! Kim is a monster! Billy Flyn is one of the best guitarists IMO! Really cool comping and he knows how to back a harp player, because he is also a harp player!🎙🎶❤️
i been listening to Kim since the 'whats the word album" ...in the late 70s. saw him play with Fabulous T-birds in the 80s when they were double billing with Stevie ray...may have been the support band, but not for me. I love his tone, pretty much learnt whatever chops i have on harp from copying his style. he's still the man. Billy Flynn is a great guitarist..old school
Yeah, Kim Wilson is has been will always be "The Best" Harp Player in the modern era of Blues anyway, and right up there with the Top Cats a the past. Jon Beckley Morris Harmonica/Guitar sideman to R.L. Burnside 1982 - 1994

Im reading all these comments and sorty to tell you guys but from my personal point of you this dont even comes close to big walters tone, not feel not anything, are you all deaf or something?
Big Walter Horton wishes he could play as well as Kim Wilson! I've heard them both and I'm in my 80's. I've been eyeball deep in the blues for my whole life and this white man can play better in all sorts of ways than anyone else I've ever heard. He's certainly the master today! If you knew how much he WANTS to play the blues, you'd understand why he plays so good.
Nobody..nobody..like Kim..the best living harmonica player!!
Damn, so good Kim, great job, one of my very favorites. You nailed mister tone.

*one of the best. There’s too many stellar harmonica players to name him the best. He’s absolutely one of the best modern players.
I’ve been watching this performance pretty much every morning for weeks now. There’s a whole careers worth of licks in there. Incredible.
