I changed my mind set when donating. I now say I want to bless someone else with these items instead of using the word donate. It really does make a difference to imagine how excited the new recipient is with them.
I was the first person in our neighbourhood to put a free table of things out the front. Now everyone does it from time to time. Everything goes, even timber, etc. We were amazed at first. One man's trash is another man's treasure, for sure. We've learnt to leave it out for a few hours once it turns dark, because some people wait unto they can't be seen to collect freebies, ha ha
Years ago I started a “support group” in my church for ladies who needed some moral support accomplishing goals. Decluttering was the number 1 goal. We offered to come over to each others’ houses to help, but no one chose to accept the help. It was enough to know others were going through it as well and to be able to celebrate successes along the way.
I love this video. I had to laugh to myself a little because I live in Louisiana and if you put that white table out it will be gone in a matter of minutes because we use those tables for crawfish boils. So funny in my head. I always ask myself when cleaning out stuff, "If I were moving would I take this with me?" If not then it goes. Thanks for a great video and Happy New Year to you and Jason and your entire family.
Great tips! My husband and are in our late fifties and have had to deal with our elderly parents homes when they either passed or went into assisted living. Wow, I think their generation saved EVERYTHING!! We spent the last year decluttering our large home and what a great feeling to know that someday our children won’t have near the stress dealing with our belongings as well as realizing that life is just better when your surroundings are organized and easier to take care of😊
I can totally relate to this. My grandmother uncle brother and mother passed away and some how I ended up with a house full of their belongings and memories. 2025 is going to be the year for me to get my house back. Thank you for sharing all of your tips. 🤗💓💕💞
My husband and I are disabled and I have chronic illnesses. Our home is very cluttered and small. I can’t say that it’s him but I have to much stuff! I’ve been watching several good channels on declutterring and I came across yours tonight. Thanks for sharing your story and your declutterring process. It was very helpful! I’ll be praying for you and your family and please pray for mine. Thank you and many blessings for the new year!!
Thank you Leslie for reminding us how mentally and physically rewarding it is to declutter. I am in my 70's and have been scaling down my home decor to a minimum for awhile. I usually have a yard sale and what doesn't sell gets donated. I am constantly reminding myself and others that you do not need a physical item to remember a family member or friend. We have years of memories locked away in our minds!
I just threw out so much Christmas stuff that I had not used in years. I dreaded decorating for Christmas because of the overwhelming amount of stuff-we'll see how it goes next year!
Leslie, great video.....good point about starting a small area and not looking at the full project. That can be overwhelming for sure. It helps when you're in the mental space to get rid of things and not be thinking sentimentally. Gotta go get busy! Thanks!
Loved this video.❤ Instead of collecting dust, I have started using sentimental items around the house. Vintage items from family that I treasure, but my adult children arent wanting when I am gone no longer sot in a china cupboard. I use the vases, bowls, pitchers, etc for daily use. Cotton balls, Q tips, tooth floss picks. Flower arrangements. Snack jars. I get to enjoy them more than just admiring them. ❤❤❤❤
I have a declutter every 6 months, and I always ask the question will my family want it when I'm gone. I will be starting my new year declutter at the end of the week. Thanks as always for your great advice. Have a great new year ❤
I keep at it year round, I purposely look for items that I can throw, one or two a day over a year is a lot. It’s not so overwhelming and bonus it keeps things down.
Loved your video. So true and so much to let go of. Our family growing up was very minimal with seven children and mom and dad. We literally had so very little. It seems each thing collected in years of marriage was a badge of honor that we worked so hard to earn the right to have nice things. Now it becomes overwhelming, and it owns us. Dusting and all. I have donated a houseful of furniture and clothing to be sure, so much to go through. The children didn't want to take their furniture when they got married so that's always hard to give away but it has to be gone. I fear of leaving and they have a giant amount of "stuff". Some things they love and want but I myself get overwhelmed. Not to mention being in the military and stationed so many places with things that I just treasure. I am taking photos and can remember but I cant have all this to stare at and make me overwhelmed. Thank you, Leslie, for your encouragement! Wishing you a happy New Year and wonderful things ahead!
Thank you, Leslie. It is always a huge motivator for me to watch others declutter and clean. It's the number one concern on my list of things to tackle this coming year. I am in my 60s, still fit like you, but I also have a chronic illness. There are days I either don't have the motivation or the physicality to tackle projects. But I want to get this done once and for all and be able to live out my years without worrying about an avalanche of stuff falling on my head when I grab something from the bottom of my closet. (This actually happened to me this year.) I look forward to more videos like this.
I have started decluttering. It's a very overwhelming process. I decided that 2-3 days a week I am going to focus on one part (a drawer, a cabinet) of my house and just declutter it. I don't care if it takes me several months, I'm going to do it. I also am going to do a no buy this year. There is nothing I need, it's always "I want or have to have" but I truly need nothing at the moment. I will not fall for the trends. I love my home the way it looks and I'm not going to change it because someone says it's out of style or a new piece is trending. I'm going to save money, get out of debt and not be overwhelmed by all the STUFF I have. Thanks so much for sharing.
I love your advice. The sentimental items are the hardest. I recently started the decluttering process in part of my house and now feel motivated to continue. The holidays have put it all on hold but your video inspires me to get back at it in the new year! Thank you for all of your insights and tips!
I do the free table as well! People took my table twice though. 😂 So I'd recommend putting a sign out asking people not to take the table. This has been the BEST way for me to declutter because I love seeing people who are excited to find things they like for free.
great video, leslie. i've not seen the other but have it ready to go! my goal in 2025 is to get rid of 'stuff'..including things i may be emotionally attached to! i'll think back to your video...and feel a little encouraged in that i don't have as much as you! LOL...
I love this video. You really did help me realize how important it is to declutter as we get older. Thank you so very much. I love you and your channel , you & Jason are sweethearts. Lots of love & hugs ❤❤ Mary Ann
Loved this video. I have had to downsize several times in the last 10 years. I am sometimes heart sore when I think about what had to go. Now have a rule about clothes. If I buy something new something has to Go in it's place. I have a sister who lives in a hoarders paradise. She never gets rid of anything.
I started organizing my garage for the best 3 months I live alone I started to put things that I needed to let go in a bin at the end of my street It goes so fast I don't like market place and no one here where I live to drop off It is a lot of work Great tips
You did a great job decluttering. I am always decluttering but after Christmas I really trying to make my house simple and decluttered. It’s always a work in progress.
Thanks for sharing. You are not alone on your decluttering journey, especially as it relates to dementia hoarding. My mom's story was similar, and sadly, the family did not cope well. Great job and great inspiration. xo
Leslie, I’m now walking your journey and downsizing to move soon! Following your channel over the past 4 years is so important for me today! Every load I take to goodwill brings relief to the stress! I love you!💕
I started this month. First recycling items I had not used ever. Into the recycling bin for pickup. Some plastic but mostly glass jars and lids. Next the coffee mugs with lids. Donation box. I like pretty things, but I over buy at times. Same with cleaning supplies. So my pantry has gone through an organization, so I can see what is available and don't add to the shopping list. Saves money. Still working on the kitchen. I have gotten that down considerably when I moved, but I think there is more to donate. This week it will be my personal closet. Thanks for the encouragement on emotional attachments to items. That's a biggie for me.
Thank you for the help to continue removing items from my home. I'm very sick right now last wk really slowed me down with the Dr visits & medical tests. I hope the 1st wk of Jan I'm back on track & able to pick up objects & carry them out of here. I am doing small things like paperwork etc while I'm not doing so well health wise. I was motivated by your basement declutter. I hv been giving things to people, non profit stores etc & I like to see how happy everyone gets. Have a Wonderful New Year. I will be watching more of your videos. You have a calm way of giving advice also😊
My mom is in a nursing home. My children and I are starting the process of cleaning out her house. Oh my goodness! She has so much stuff. It’s hard to know where to start. Thank you for your suggestions. God bless you. ❤
I put a lot of stuff along my yard too. It goes fast. I got lucky and we had few days in the 50s before Christmas. I had a lot of new stuff too. Worked out well for some who couldnt afford gifts this year. I had a lot of everything. No, right before Christmas its not normal to be that nice. Crazy whether. Lol, it made it up day after christmas and today. Burrr.
You are giving great advice. When I feel overwhelmed I just ask myself “ how do you eat an elephant”? One bite at a time. I have spent this downtime taking small areas and working on it. In one week I have made huge strides. Love your videos.
Yesterday I finally tackled my closet from hell! Literally, it had been on my list to clean out for months and was just dreading it. Well, I finally did it. Ended up with 4 large garbage bags of stuff that I am Blessed to have a Charity that will pick up and 1 bag for trash. It felt so good when I finished, and it definitely motivated me to continue with other areas. My challenge will be not to buy more stuff to clutter it up again.
I have been ruthless on letting go.. and I have only missed one thing... my cupcake pans! LOL! but I also found a work around. I keep a box at the ready at all times. And drop it off at my local thrift often.
Such great advice. Really resonated with me. You are such a blessing. I have thoroughly enjoyed this (and all) your videos. Happy New Year! God bless you and yours.

Your last decluttering video got me going. But the clutter piled up in an extra bedroom until we had a chance to go to Goodwill. But it’s gone ! Now I need to start again. Thanks for the tips ❤
Great tips. I have been decluttering over the holiday break and it does feel good. Thankfully we have a charity organize on that comes to our home and picks up which has been great. Happy holidays.
I'm disabled..so a small bit at a time with my adult kids help x we've already gifted our children the jewlery or special items they wanted so they can enjoy them x
Hi Leslie! Good video for the new year. I’m going to declutter a little bit I always send pics of my items I’m going to get rid of to my family first. They get first dibs. Then I donate. My problem is I love to go thrifting. Yikes!
I've given away so many things on our free site too! I also had a community sale where I live and anything that didn't sell went in my car to be donated. I drove right to the donation drop off right then!
Thank you Leslie, great tips and I have used many of your tips with decluttering 😊 I am going to try regarding sentimental items and asking family if they want such items ... if not than I may let go of some ❤
I keep a “to donate” pile going in one of my bedrooms at all times. My sister in law works with a humanitarian group in our area so when I get a pile big enough to make it worth her time to make the trip to my house I let her know and she picks it up. We also have a thrift store ran by one of the churches in my town. They sell everything that’s donated at very reasonable prices and every penny is used to help the needy in our county. The workers all donate their time and the building space is donated so I split my donations between them and my sister in law’s group. I quit making any donations to Goodwill when I found out how much the “big guys” in charge make. I was also told by one of the menial workers that what you donate at your local store is shipped to a different area and other areas donations are sent to other places. When they are received the manager’s go through them and take out all the “choice” items for themselves, family and friends. I was at the store that’s closest to me a few years ago and as I was helping the person unload what I had they made the statement that “boy they’re gonna love going through this”. I asked what they meant and that’s when I was told what truly happens. I loaded my stuff back in my truck and I’ve never made another donation to Goodwill.
Thanks for this video Leslie! I’ve mentioned on here before that my husband has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and I am in the process of decluttering years of stuff. I have an organizer who is helping me because #1 physically I am not well myself and #2 she will press me to decide whereas I will say put it aside and let me think about it. When I was starting out I really wanted items from my grandparents and parents but now the younger generation isn’t into that. I say that but my daughter is having me keep some things for her. Did you have a problem getting Jason to decide on his things or just get too tired to decide?
One other suggestion, if I may. Here in Canada, I can donate items to Diabetes Canada. I just either go online or give them a call to arrange a pickup. I would guess that the U.S. has a similar system. Thanks for posting.
When my sister's husband passed away and she down sized to sell her house and moved to an apartment she rented a roll off dumpster and just tossed everything away.
Decluttering your home does bring peace and harmony into your life but once you have a declutter home you need to stop shopping and bring in mindless items back in or the cycle will start again.
Be sure to check out Typology! My favorite is the Firming Night Serum: bit.ly/4iEz6ud I also love the 9 ingredient moisturizer: bit.ly/4iLtTR5
My Mom asked me if there was anything of hers that I wanted. Mom gifted me that item the following Birthday.❤
I changed my mind set when donating. I now say I want to bless someone else with these items instead of using the word donate. It really does make a difference to imagine how excited the new recipient is with them.
Inspiring, encouraging video. "Keep the memories, not the stuff". "Little steps".
Lol! In Austin, they have facebook groups for freebies, where they give things away in the neighborhood.

We offered to come over to each others’ houses to help, but no one chose to accept the help. I appreciate that you address the physical toll and emotional connection to decluttering.

Putting things out by your curb is just the sweetest thing ever and I know it truly blessed some souls!!
I love the idea of the free stuff to bless others!
Thanks, Leslie! You make it look like it’s possible to accomplish this!!! Love and Blessings!!! ♥️🥰
A bit of caffeine helps as well. 👍🏼 I love ur idea of starting with a small space first ‼️

Just the motivation I needed, started this process before Christmas so need to keep going❤️
You are giving great advice. When I feel overwhelmed I just ask myself “ how do you eat an elephant”? One bite at a time. I have spent this downtime taking small areas and working on it. In one week I have made huge strides. Love your videos.
Thanks so much for sharing how do you eat an elephant. That’s something I’m gonna keep in my mind.
This gives so many great tips, so overwhelming!
Oh so true on every thing you said, yes tis perfect . Thank you . We have given so much away by setting it out by the road way…. That is the best!
Wonderful pep talk video! Thank you!
Enjoying your decluttering video..A Very Happy Blessed New Year ❤
Working on it here too! It can be difficult letting go but it’s time!
Thank you, Leslie. This was so inspiring!!
Yesterday I finally tackled my closet from hell! Literally, it had been on my list to clean out for months and was just dreading it. Well, I finally did it. I have been ruthless on letting go.. and I have only missed one thing... my cupcake pans! LOL! but I also found a work around. I keep a box at the ready at all times. And drop it off at my local thrift often.
Me too, it is the easiest way.I am 84 yrs young.
Yes, a small area at a time , helps
Such great advice. Really resonated with me. You are such a blessing. I have thoroughly enjoyed this (and all) your videos. Happy New Year! God bless you and yours.
Well done, I have been doing just this for a few years. Like you, I feel happier, lighter and so glad that I won’t be burdening my children. Than you.
Tip: What I can't donate, I leave a box marked "Free" (or put a sign on the item itself) in front of my house & 100% of the time it is gone in a few hours 😊. I'm happy it is going to someone that needs it instead of the landfill.
Leslie, where do I go to purchase any of the items you are selling when you were decluttering? Thanks, Holly
Your last decluttering video got me going. But the clutter piled up in an extra bedroom until we had a chance to go to Goodwill. But it’s gone ! Now I need to start again. Thanks for the tips ❤
Such a motivation video, thank you so much 😊
Great video. Waiting for !2 January to start packing my Christmas stuff then declutter. Just love your videos. Happy New Year!!!
You warm my heart!!
I have many items for free that I put at the end of my driveway as you do. I call it putting it in the stream. 😊
I needed this today..as i'm packing up my christmas things. Thanks for the encouragment...i have started a donate box!
I still use my dough bowl i bought from you. I love it
Very helpful.. thank you … I gotta get at it!!
Everything you said is so very true. Thank you for sharing ❤
Great tips. I have been decluttering over the holiday break and it does feel good. Thankfully we have a charity organize on that comes to our home and picks up which has been great. Happy holidays.
Thank you for the free table!
I remember when I first started watching you, you made candles. I looked forward to seeing you make and ship them off. 😊

Yikes!
Thanks for all that you do. Happy New Year
I love your videos, Leslie!! I've heard really good things about Typology. Thank you for sharing!! Do you no longer use Osea?
I've given away so many things on our free site too! I also had a community sale where I live and anything that didn't sell went in my car to be donated. I drove right to the donation drop off right then!
Thank you Leslie, great tips and I have used many of your tips with decluttering 😊 I am going to try regarding sentimental items and asking family if they want such items ... if not than I may let go of some ❤
I love the idea about putting your donated stuff for free in the driveway. Goodwill has become so overpriced, and I feel guilty donating there.
So funny , i do the same
My things get picked up fast
My local buy nothing group was very useful in redistributing my moms estate. It made it guilt free not keeping all her possessions.
Try to donate to local charity not goodwill. Constantly declutter, always have a box to donate.
I keep a “to donate” pile going in one of my bedrooms at all times.
Thank you ❤
i am curious why all the baking racks? do u used to be a baker?
Yeah, I was wondering that too!
She used to make and sell candles in dough bowls so my guess would be that’s what she used them for? 🤷♀️
Thank you.
I love your videos and positive approach to everything! But I just have to ask, why do you have so many of the same dough bowls?😊
Thanks! I use to have an Etsy shop and made dough bowl candles!
One other suggestion, if I may. Here in Canada, I can donate items to Diabetes Canada. I just either go online or give them a call to arrange a pickup. I would guess that the U.S. has a similar system. Thanks for posting.

I am pretty good at it if I can find someone to gift stuff to. Now if I could just get my husband to let go of some really dumb stuff he has...
Decluttering your home does bring peace and harmony into your life but once you have a declutter home you need to stop shopping and bring in mindless items back in or the cycle will start again.
