Where Is Buzzy? The Shocking Truth Behind Disney’s Stolen Animatronic
HTML-код

- In December 2018, the world was shocked to learn that the iconic Buzzy animatronic, once part of the now-defunct Cranium Command attraction in Epcot’s Wonders of Life pavilion, had been stolen. In today’s video, we dive deep into the entire story, unraveling the mystery and uncovering the truth behind this bizarre Disney saga.

There’s been some confusion about where I stand on what actually happened to Buzzy. If you haven’t finished watching the video, come back and read this afterward, but here’s my take:
I believe there’s a 45% chance that Dave’s theory is correct. I’m grouping this with the idea of an urban explorer or disgruntled cast member being involved because, regardless of how a private collector might have acquired Buzzy, the police report was filed, and it’s clear that proper permission wasn’t granted-meaning Buzzy was stolen.
I also believe there’s a 55% chance that my theory is right: that Disney still has Buzzy in their archives, either in Florida or California, and that massive communication problems between departments are why the situation unfolded the way it did.
I do believe that at some point we will know what happened to Buzzy. But for now it remains one of the weirdest mysteries of all time.
Thank you for the overwhelming support!
Honestly, I feel your theory is the most likely one.
I know some people who work with Disney in California, (no, not cast members, I mean folks that work with the bigwigs) and I asked them about the Buzzy situation. Not if they knew what happened, but rather if it's possible they have him somewhere in storage and he was misplaced. They all said that this kind of situation actually happens quite often, though it generally goes unnoticed by the general public. The most common scenario they see happen, is an animatronic is taken out of a location to be serviced or preserved, only to have something cause it to be misplaced. One of the people I spoke with said, typically, they try to have backup animatronics to replace them so the visitors never notice the swap, but in the case of some older animatronics, they don't have those backups. So when one gets taken down for repair, or preservation, its removal is noticed. I asked them what could cause it to be misplaced, and they noted that there's a limited number of people who are available to repair older animatronics, and as such it can take time to get or fabricate the needed parts. Even when a preservation is taking place, it's Disney practice to repair the part to its as installed state, which can be difficult to do with the older animatronics. Add into this the fact that the same people working in repair and preservation, also must work to maintain the existing animatronics in the parks, and it becomes very common for an older one to be placed on a shelf and worked on intermittently when the repair and preservation people "have the time". Normally, due to the presence of 'backup' animatronics, this isn't a problem, but, as they noted, there's been a number of instances in the past where it's taken multiple years (in one case a couple decades) to fix and return an animatronic to its place in the park.
Dave has connections yes but Dave is also a loose canon especially if he has been drinking. So take his word with a grain of salt
Disney has become so large and unorganized, that I suspect your theory is closer to 95%. My bet is that he is sitting in some crate in a warehouse at Disney. He's too big and heavy. Had to be a crew doing a closure removal that then got lost in the paperwork. There are so many AA's being moved around that I doubt those that were involved even know there is a story about him missing.
So, in other words, we didn’t find buzzy and you put that in the thumbnail for clicks.
I know exactly what happened to Buzzy. He got up and walked away. Now he’s working with the abandoned Stitch animatronic.
stay tuned for my next video 👀
They became self-aware.
He's not working at all. Lol That's the real reasoning. Got tired of the downsizing and walked off to seek better employment opportunities.
Fun fact: Disney animatronics have a "free roam" mode that allows them to move around at night in order to lower maintenance issues (Source: FNAF)
Nah, he secretly ran off and became the real life Balloon Boy, keep your batteries safe
This is still one of the most interesting most likely never ending stories. The fact that we still don’t know what happened to buzzy sends chills down my spine.
GP urban explorers have become increasingly more destructive of the places they visit. The whole appeal of urban exploration is seeing a place frozen in time, take a picture, don’t steal a trophy of your visit.
100%
"Leave only footprints, take only memories." Pretty much any exploring, that's the golden rule. Gives the whole hobby a bad name and makes it that much harder.
@@JakeTheAcer See the statues {plural} of Wild Bill Hittock
People in general have become Increasingly disrespectful overall :/
I think you confusing explorers with vandals.
the really baffling part of this whole thing is the fact that Disney couldn't be bothered to _secure a crime scene_, let alone ANY off limits areas. Buzzy had been tampered with before, and there was plenty of video and photo footage online of people going into this area. But let's not invest a few million into getting some actual security cameras, alarms, and heaven forbid LOCKS to prevent further issue
true
they can't even be bother to keep an accurate inventory i'm not surprised they don't secure closed attractions or crimescenes
WDW is really big. It doesn't seem like they have the bandwidth to manage the property. When they're fighting tight budgets, anything that doesn't return revenue is an unnecessary expense.
literally in the police report it says this area was unsecured & accessible to the public. makes me wonder what other disney properties & assets are unsecured.
I had NO idea Buzzy was that big!!!! I was under the impressive he was only 2 or so feet tall, or the size of a torso. The picture of a human for scale at 22:39 blew my mind!!!!!
@@mothmancancook agreed
@ Like I’d know about the theory of him being stolen since it originally happened. Thinking he was smaller, I assumed someone could have stuffed him in a large backpack.
I mean in perspective he would look like a dot moving around on the set if he actually was the size of a torso
@@mothmancancook he's as heavy as a refrigerator, so that would be a boulder of a backpack
deffo larger than I thought. I watched Jenny Nicholson's Buzzy video, and she made a joke about sneaking him out in a stroller, so I imagined him being that size without thinking about how he weighs hundreds of pounds
Imagine being that supposed collector with Buzzy hanging out in his collection during the "Where's Buzzy" craze.
I just hope that buzzy is being taken proper care of
as a former cm at least at magic kingdom i know that communication between departments is HORRIBLE so i can imagine archives not talking to the operations for sure
As a current CM, it still amazes me how little communication there is between departments. Even at one of the smaller resorts, despite being in the same building, you can work F&B and know nothing of what's going on in Merch. Heck, you wouldn't know there was a menu change until the day of! So I'm def in the camp that Archives took him and either didn't notify, or they did notify, and whoever got the memo didn't spread the news
My husband is a current CM and you’re absolutely right! lol 😂 He tells me all the time it’s SO disconnected 😅
I was talking to someone who worked at Disney for 18 years, and who is friends with Pete Doctor, (animator on cranium command, and director for inside out) and Pete told the guy I was talking to, that Disney had gotten Buzzy back, and he is safe and sound, beck to his original glory in the Disney archives in California.
if you have any more information, please reach out to me on Twitter, which is linked in the description of this video.
@ I don’t Sorry ☹️
Ah. Good to know.
How would they have gotten him back tho?
this seems unlikely,,,i'm 100% sure they would've said something about getting him back
Gosh, this story gets more and more twisted over the years. And with every new twist there's less and less hope being left to see our beloved baby again.. :(
Don’t call Buzzy a baby., that’s just weird.
Yes, agreed. He was actually either in his 20’s or 30’s according to the ride. Or he was a teen. Not sure
that cast member’s handwriting in the police report is SO pretty and disney-like. i’m a former CM and i’m jealous lol
i hope buzzy is okay, wherever he is 😪 ily, buzzy
If this happened 10 years ago, there would be already a Five Nights at Buzzy's Trilogy
true
When I worked at EPCOT one of the horticulture guys gave me and a few other CMs a tour of like all the backrooms of that pavilion. We were lucky enough to see the Buzzy animatronic still lit up before it was stolen
@@ryantelberson that’s awesome! When did that take place
HOLY COW! This guy is a pro! One can’t just waltz into a Disney attraction and steal an animatronic! That takes plans, guts, and pixie dust.
Ah...their archive problems make me so sad. Preservation is already such a big issue, it sucks that even a mega corp can't get it together. I'm thinking of all my favorite films and wondering what has been lost of them out there...
Cranium command is just begging to be rethemed to a Inside Out attraction.
So basically either he’s with a collector or lost in the Disney archives
I mean I least hes for the most part safe.
I call BS on the rich guys not knowing the stuff was stolen.
Legitimate sales of Disney memorabilia is almost always done via professional auction houses and the stuff goes for BIG BUCKS.
They knew they were buying stolen stuff because that's way too cheap for park used items and the sale was obviously hush hush.
If they legitimately purchased awesome items like those they would have been proudly displayed, talked about, and probably posted on social media. Not hidden away and kept quiet
@@robinmoreau6668 I see what you mean regardless he gave it back the second he “found out” they were stolen. Definitely a gray area for sure
Love it when a new buzzy video comes out its one of my fav topics and i feel its never really brought up anymore.
Thats incredibly depressing if he was sold to a private collector. We aint ever seeing Buzzy again.
@@Ninnintender I feel like if a private collector brought it we have a higher chance of seeing it then if it’s hiding in the Disney archive.
true but also the guy illegally obtained it so he probably wouldn’t wanna show it. But i do see what you mean
we can only hope one day or another it happens. Thank you for watching!
@ yeah man no problem. This video kicked ass. I love these types of theme park lore videos
@@Ninnintendersounds like some elitist thing, he’s gonna show everyone that comes over but never post a word online. Not many people can throw down $500k for a wall ornament. (Of course much more historical but still…)
Am I the only one shocked by the sheer SIZE of the animatronic in that one pic where somebody’s working on him??? Like I know he’s 300 pounds but in my mind and in all the other pictures of him he looks no more than 3 feet tall. Granted I never saw the attraction in person so they’re probably just really good at perspective!
When I came across that I was done too it’s really hard to put it into perspective. 300 pounds is pretty freaking big but Buzzy was massive.
I’m just imagining a guy walking out of the park carrying a whole animatronic and getting involved with all sorts of wacky hijinks
Write your screenplay, man…🤣
Pretending it's his drunk friend and he's carrying him out, lol.
That would make an awesome heist movie! BUZZY HEIST!
There comes a point where a corporation gets so large that managing unused or obsolete assets becomes unprofitable.
So I guess he didn’t get into a van with a kid who stowed away in the park after hours, speed off into the horizon with him only for his battery to run down and the kid used jumper cables to recharge him and they drove off once again, their fates unknown.
Is that a fucking FNAF Security Breach reference
Oh stop
Based SB reference
Plot twist, Disney knows what happened and created a buzz around Buzzy haha, to draw more people to the park.I don't think that's what really happened but it would be a neat way to attract attention and bring people in. I think they just don't have good communication. Who knows
I cackled at this. Thank you for the fnaf ref
I once went to a house party in LA of a person with a rather large pop culture collection. I swear a saw an AA that had Buzzys distinct features and shape. The collector denied and would not allow pictures or videos. Could have been anything but I wonder if it was him, this was December 2019
if you wanna talk more, dm me on twitter id love to hear about it.
Who was the person?
Ya Frl who was he.. cause at this point any random LA person can have it
There being an actual police interview about a missing animatronic is kinda funny. I know it’s theft but I think most theme parks wouldn’t care about old stuff being stolen.
it certainly is crazy but I guess when a couple hundred thousand dollar animatronic is stolen regardless of if you’re Disney or not, you want it back
Ahhh ☝️...but this is Disney!! You don't cross the Mouse!
It's an item that cost half a million dollars, or course they care about it being stolen, wouldn't you?
It's not just theft, it's grand theft. Hell, that thing would pay off both my car and house... with plenty left over.
> you enter a closed animatronic attraction
> you only have a flashlight to use for light
> you look at the animatronics
> you start to leave, but notice the animatronics are missing
> march of the toreadors starts playing
*buzzy hums foxy’s tune*
Oh no he's ass...
They were going to change him into Edna Mode. I can already see it.
PERFECT!!!
Honestly, I think if Disney did just lose track of him in the archives and rediscovered him one day, they’d never admit it. It’d highlight the awful communication between departments and general incompetence with management, and show that they’d wasted the police’s time. It could leak, but Disney would never officially admit that they lost track of him
6 years wow . I remember when this story started . Thank you for the up date .
Having seen the archives in the past, it's totally likely that they have them and just haven't catalogued him correctly and/or didn't communicate. Their archives are massive, I have no doubt he's there.
I'm surprised Disney hasn't released any information about this though, the archives have always been a sense of accomplishment for Disney and their history.
When people say "Disney Archives" I imagine Raiders of the Lost Ark, but without the TOP MEN.
Ok, so assuming Dave is right about Buzzy... what happened to Hypothalamus?
There are literally hundreds of Disney archivists that I’m sure could be interviewed about this story. Now whether or not you’d get a definitive answer on Buzzy’s whereabouts is a completely different issue, but at least getting a handful of them to confirm or deny whether or not the A.A. has been recovered might be an easier task…
this feels like something you'd see on Unsolved Mysteries, all it needs is the theme song playing at the beginning of the video
@@twotonedearly i’m adding a song and montage in the next one haha.

Thank you so much!!!
Next Episode, WHO STOLE SPECTROMAGIC?
"nah man, those props got weathered and destroyed." "NO, someone STOLE them." "The entire parade?" "THE ENTIRE PARADE."
damn the way he got tackled after taking his phone back is like the way you get tackled for pulling it out in class is crazy funny to me
Having an animatronic that's just sitting in a back room not seen by the public gathering dust gets stolen?
WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GONNA HAPPEN!?!
Honestly, they should have remodeled the pavailion into a more healthy counter service food venue and continued to operate Body Wars and Cranium Command. It was a cute show and a cool place to sit in the Florida summer. Maybe Amazon/Whole Foods could have sponsored it inexpensively as it wasn't a new attraction.
go apply for Disney Imagineering right now
I mean the pavilion was always about health so it’s a no brainer for them to do a quick and easy remodel that promotes health once again like it always has and keep the original attractions that once operated in the building with newer technology upgrades added to them to put up with the modern day
that’s funny how disney doesn’t keep much logs of anything i would’ve thought they would have everything super organized and crazy because they’re such a big company with so many projects
What if like they plugged in the power to Buzzy and Buzzy and Hypothalamus just decided to walk out of there. No one noticed because they took the backdoor and Disney is trying to cover up how two of their animatronics decided to walk out on them
You know what I’m updating my percentages and I give this a 10% chance
I appreciate how thorough yet brief your video is, and doesn't jump to conclusions
Maybe someday we'll know where Buzzy went for sure, but I won't bet on it
thank you for watching and I agree with you. I felt like it was appropriate to try to come up with some theories as to what could’ve happened, but I understand where you’re coming from.
The Wonders of Life Pavilion is still there... Still closed. Don't think Disney knows quite what to do with it... Funny how that side of the park has the lion's share of repurposed and remodeled and just plain removed pavilions at EPCOT. Horizons, Universe of Energy, even Test Track--now undergoing yet another complete re-theming.
Discovery island is another example--they're building a brand new DVC resort on the shore right by it--but they're not using it. Interesting.
1.) The Wonders of Life pavilion has been completely gutted, and I couldn’t agree more-it’s crazy to think about how many other projects Disney will be focusing on over the next 10 years instead of Wonders of Life. It seems like it’ll just sit there as an empty shell for at least that long.
2.) In your second paragraph, you’re actually talking about River Country, not Discovery Island. Just wanted to point that out! That said, it’s great to see them finally doing something with that space. It was really fascinating to watch the waterpark’s decline over the years.
@@JakeTheAcer Was watching that guy walking around on Discovery Island. Good to see the River Country area finally getting something, but don't understand Discovery Island sitting unused. It's in such a good location, really--close to the campgrounds, the Wilderness Lodge Resort area--and now a brand new DVC resort. I'm surprised they're not using it for anything at all. Some more insanely overpriced DVC cabins, for instance.
Considering that Inside Out 2 is now the all time highest grossing animated movie. And Cranium Cimnand is literally where it and Pete Doctor started, you would think they would be rushing to either bring back cranium command. Or repurpose it and the whole pavilion to Inside Out?
@@andrewtaylor940 Well, seems like they're gutting anything they can to pack in more Disney IP.... But at least Inside Out could be connected to the health ethos of the original pavilion.
I've always enjoyed watching people speculate on Buzzy. I myself never got the chance to see him in person, although the show was running in my lifetime, I've not been to Disney since I was 5 and that was DisneyLand. Perhaps someday someone will share what happened to Buzzy with video/photos so that those who loved him can be happy with the fact he's okay. Disney animatronics are a things all to their own aren't they.
this situation will always be iconic,,,i remember it introduced me to offhand disney lol
great channel
i am not an expert but there is something i find strange about this...if the hydraulic lines are cut (assuming theft) but there was no trail of hydraulic fluid? Did they bring something to seal the lines? Were the thieves careful about the lines after being cut or they cleaned up the fluid while they were making their escape? not to mention it weighing 300 lbs
The reports said there was hydraulic fluid below where he was ...
To address your first point, that is definitely interesting. We don’t know exactly what the Cranium Command theater looked like immediately after the theft, so it’s possible there was a much bigger mess than what we see in the post-removal video. However, you can clearly spot some splatter on the rail of the stage.
As for your second point, in the post-removal pictures, it’s evident that the lines were indeed cut.
Depending on how much fluid was left in the lines, that may have been all the mess there was. Over time it will actually evaporate some, and most of it would have drained back into the reservoir.
As long as the lines are not under pressure and there is no kenectic energy (like a nitrogen bladder or heavy wieght pussing down on the hydraulic cylinders) then just the fluid in the lines would leak out.
I wonder if you could cut the lines with basic tools being that some of the lines have hardend steal in them.
Also hack & slash jobs like how buzzy was removed look like a huge Osha violation.
That plot twist at the end was crazy
The first pictures of Buzzy of 2010 show him with with a slightly droopy eye, then in 2012 his gloves are missing and the eyes are wide open. Then in the next picture where his eye is completely drooped it was mentioned that the eye was fixed by 2013. It would have been fixed way before then as his gloves are still there. It's possible the person who took the gloves may have also reached up and adjusted the eye.
@@DroidWrangler1969 in the 2012 picture where the gloves are missing it literally says on the screen at that picture was taken in either 2016 or 2017. It was just a high-quality image that showcased that his gloves were missing. Let me just run it down quickly in October 2012. His gloves were stolen around that same time his eyes started to droop and by October 2013 his gloves were obviously missing and his eye was fixed.
to be honest, it was really hard to source the years on these photos as the date on an article that might’ve been released years ago was updated it replaces the date. However, on these ones, I am pretty confident that I was correct.
I love how Jake subtly reveals himself to be the escaped Buzzy animatronic around 23:00
This is so interesting cause I remember I was a fan of Backdoor Disney and seeing his video it totally seemed like he was this innocent person. Him talking about how they opened all his Christmas presents got me for sure cause it’s something I wouldn’t have thought about the cops doing for an investigation like that during the holidays. I do think that with the lines cut and making a mess, he was stolen. But with both animatronics going missing not just Buzzy (which I didn’t know so thank you!) it’s possible Disney may have taken them and may have been too embarrassed to change things or teaching urban explorers “a lesson”. I dunno it’s hard to say! Thank you for making this video! I get it with doing RUclips for 12 years I’ve been around that long too but kinda gave up 😅 good on you for doing the research and keeping it going!
If Disney World will be in GTA VI, this needs to be a Heist mission
i’d love that
After working at Disney, yes there were miscommunications back in those days 2014-2018 so much so that my store manager at mouse gear didn’t know who any of us were that worked there 😅 I think maybe Disney did remove buzzy and and left him waiting to be sent to California and that’s when he was taken by someone whether it be someone out of the direct archives circle (the example where he was sold) or an ex cast member (spikes). We often would walk backstage in what we called “civilian” clothing rather than costumes so that wouldn’t have been odd. But not being seen by someone in an abandoned area and not being questioned is a little wild. They infused fear in you about going places where you aren’t allowed. Although there are very little leaders to regular cast members so you could definitely sneak around if you weren’t scared like me 😂
most informative video i’ve ever seen about this. W video
miscommunication seems far more likely. Most company departments don't talk to each other and have no idea what they doing
Honestly i saw another theory that makes sense and it kinda lines up a little bit. Which is that Jenny Nicholson has Buzzy. As she uploaded a video about it as well. however had some details nobody had yet at the time by taking a van out the back. And in one of her patreon videos long ago. she did a collection tour, however couldn’t show stuff due to some legal purposes. Maybe she bought off buzzy but again, that’s just a game theory
Theres no way she could’ve bought it for 500k

Thanks for the great vid! I’ve always assumed Buzzy was in someone’s private collection so thank you for laying my worries to rest.
I wouldn’t put 100% on it as I didn’t in the video, but I think that’s probably the most likely or he’s in the archives
(Quick Answer) Disney removed Buzzy themselves and it was poorly communicated.
Patrick, or whoever has control of his YT channel posted a video of the abandoned epcot model that was above the server room in the computer systems show.
It's a sad end to BUZZY, I liked that attraction and Buzzy was the main character as far as I was concerned.
BUT
The records problem has haunted di$ney forever.
Do you recall the monorail upgrades, Mk 1, Mk 2 and on up to Mk IV , Mk V and Mk VI???
If you have followed any of the builds for the new monorails, they have always had to go back to the old
monorails and back engineer them because di$ney NEVER archived the prints to build them.
I have always thought it was rediculous that they had to backward engineer one of the parks main
attractions, but everytime, they say they had to backward engineer them.
Keeping prints and drawings is not one of di$neys best practices.
This was awesome! Great work on the video
Glad you liked it!
they were going to let it all rot anyway
This is a insanely interesting case considering he was a 300 LB Animatronic so my guess is they stole him piece by piece considering his weight. Or they could've used a lift or something to get him out lol.

If Disney took out Buzzy, they would have taken more care with removing Buzzy. They would have had no need for a police report regarding theft if they had removed the animatronic.
I believe it was a Disney higher up who did this knowing they could get things like clothes as a lower tier employee they shouldn't have a problem getting the animatronic especially if its already closed down. They have access to thing some employees dont and know the parks just as much. They used the clothes as a distraction so the heat wouldn't all be on them
Buzzy is right next to the Arc of the Covenant in a giant Wearhouse.. being researched by "TOP People"
I mean if you abandon nice things they gonna get stolen you can't expect people not to steal it so who gives a shit at least somebody actually appreciates it once disney just abandoned it

Makes total sense.

I worked for a third party that was contracted by Disney in Epcot. You easily could just walk wherever you wanted as long as you do it with confidence.
I do remember a video around that time showing some guys in a small car behind a pavillion at Epcot. They were joking about stealing cm costumes that were being brought in on racks. On the video between 12:00 and 12:05, I saw both a scissor lift and a flatbed pushcart. Literally everything a person needed was in the building.
@@loorthedarkelf8353 many more carts in the queue area as well. That was backstage likely not the one that would’ve been used. However yes throughout the building were many carts to use.
I'm going with the 40% of chance Disney having him in the Archives for how if there was evidence that a collector haves him then he would of shown up for how it sounding like they know where he's at and if somebody stole him it'll be hard to escape with him like said. Plus if a collector bought him then they would of come forwards and told and shown up with evidence to back up that they have him, especially if it's involve with the law they'll be rather come clean then look upon as criminals if thought to bought it without problems to be involved with it.
The whole reason ppl do urban exploration is to see the abandoned places as they are! Not to steal everything smh. We need to follow the leave no trace mantra.
