Pat really is one of the innovators at the forefront of music today, technically he may not be a prodigy with flurries of 128th notes, but he is such a humble guy that he's put his whole life into learning and researching. I saw him live quite a few times now with KC and other acts through the last 20+ years and he's been ever evolving. Plus he's so enthusiastic about his art that he would stop packing up his drums after a 2hours+ concert (he does the job himself in smaller gigs) and happily explain you the finer details of his bass drum mute or just exchange pleasantries. A great guy, really.
Oh to be sure.....Pat is much much 'Deeper'.....than just another garden-variety church-chops-flurries' Guy. Which imo, we just have far too many of today.... Another 'Blinding' Thomas-Lang' type Exhibition. Zzzzzzzzzzz.......
I like how the drummers who played for Zappa keep in touch and they all compare gear and sounds to each other. Probably the most interesting collection of percussion of any drummer I've seen.
Absolutely LOVE @ 10:22 & 10:27 - can you imagine those used in a tune?! Pat is the whole reason I got interested in playing drums (after hearing "Let's Pretend" by Al Jarreau in the 80s, and of course, loved his contribution to Mr. Mister's stuff, too) ... Saw them in person in '86 & '87 & he was very engaging on stage (we were right at the front - he obliged to come over and sign an autograph for me between songs), as well as when we caught him on his way upstairs after a show at The Palace in Hollywood. VERY very friendly, open, engaging - really made an impression on me as the others were quite reserved, ... even MIA - (well, Farris was... )... Anyhoo, this is a GREAT video.. I love seeing close-up, backstage views drummer set-ups, and Pat's is always ever-evolving. Great guy, Great Drummer! - self-taught, no less!!!
What I love about Pat is that he isn't a "brand slave". If he finds something that sounds good, he uses it, doesn't matter where it's from. I've had the chance to meet him and get a picture with him. He is a great guy. Wish I could've talked to him more.
You are SUCH a BEAST!! Ive been a KC fan for 35 years and its a joy to see the continued story. You and Gavin and Rieflin make 3 of a perfect pair. Lol
Pat is a "Percussive Executive Chef" ... and it's fascinating to hear how his interior sonic dialogue translates into these experimental/perplexing/delicious percussive excursions... You're a brilliant man and a tremendous musician...
Power to Believe (King Crimson), is one of my favorite CD's. Pat's playing is VERY impressive and leaves me wanting to hear more stuff like he did on Power to Believe. In fact, all the guys on that album played some unbelievable riffs in places of the song you wouldn't normally expect. Cheers!
I was at a stickmen show. I was 16 among a bunch of 40-60 year olds and I swear to god he was just staring straight at me. Probably cause I was staring at him and what he was doing because I’m a drummer and was getting my face blown off by the insane shit he did.
Such an eclectic range of percussion instruments. Mind boggling! This is almost a science. I had no idea all that went into drumming for Crimson. Nod to Jamie Muir
This is nice! A setup taking care of what is best and liked by other band members and for the music, the comfort of the nearby and far audience, and flexible on what could be changed.
You would not believe how much you highness King Crimson is deeply beloved here in Mexico. When they come (every four or five years) ticketts are run out in the first two hours they are on sale. In 2018 tour they announced two concerts: they gave five.
Interesting side detail: Pat went on to perform with a number of other artists, including of course a lot of touring with King Crimson over 2-3 decades. He's had a pretty interesting career and can really handle some extreme contrasts with grace. Anyway, Pat played drums on 2 songs that are, musically/emotionally quite opposite: With Mr. Mister, he played on Kyrie, which is a song of light and hope. With King Crimson, he played on, among others, the very dark and ominous Level 5 (a brilliant composition, BTW). Level 5 sounds like an anthem from hell, and has scary qualities not unlike classics such as Night On Bald Mountain, Danse Macabre, or even classic horror movie/sci-fi music. 2 more opposite pieces of music could hardly be found. Yet Pat handles the drum part of each with complete ease and punctuative mastery. Wonderful drummer!
Matt, stupid price but you could make him an offer - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/14-Paiste-New-Signature-Dark-Energy-Light-Dark-Hi-Hats-Mega-Rare/323486521002?hash=item4b514c96aa:g:DAYAAOSwk35buyj5:rk:2:pf:0
Kind of him to tone down on the brass. We were front row in front of him and he personally removed 18 000 Hz from our hearing forever. I mentioned it later...he was most gracious.
Pat's my favorite drummer of all time. He's a very intelligent and talented drummer.

I had a similar experience with him after a Stick Men show. A beautiful man.
He looks like a really cool guy. He gave me one of his drumsticks after a concert
Can anyone tell me if it was Pat who was the drummer for music band THE TRUTH song “Weapons of Love” in 1987?

"And he made this, which is... I think he calls it a *CLANGCLINGCLANGCRASHCRASHCLANGCLING*"
Why, what does it do?
I wish Bill Bruford was still working and we would see one of these videos from him.
Part of his kit is similar to my dog’s toys box

the Drum's Professor, yet still can get inspired by other drummers' setups and such. Great attitude.
Had a chance to see king crimson, after the show pat gave us a autograph humble guy.great drummer
I love his style. All those weird percussions are so fun!
Love his kit... is really different... I like it.

already then. Yuuuppp Mister Pat, u got the encyclopedia drum set
A fantastic drummer!
Really love your playing & drum-perc kit (block bells, batwing gong - amazing!)
Pat looks like a very angry math teacher when he plays. But he looks nice here
I had first row seats when I saw them in Munich and he kept smiling at me.
Spot on..

It would be great if you could get him to do a rundown of what he used with XTC,
Great selection of percussions Morfbeatz, Hammerx ect..
Soo many stuff..i hope he use it
Came here just to find out about that batwing gong. What a weird piece, but no surprise with P@!
Great video!

Thank you!
Is that a vics drum shop t-shirt? helll yeah! Too bad they're closed for a bit
Is Jeremy's set going to be shown in a video as alluded to in this video?
Sadly, it wasn't possible...
As a guitarist, I find drummers' thoughts fascinating.
I can say that much for guitarists. That and when they go on a rant about their amps, I dont understand a single word which comes out of their mouth.
"it's also scrape-able" AAAHHHHHH !!!! NO !!!!
Pat's such a fuckin duuude
LP makes the brown rubbery thing
6:30 "Well fuck, let's call Paiste". I wish I could solve all my problems like this.
who s on the t-shirt? Albert ayler?

He's a noisy fella.🤘😎🤘
Did you guys get a kit tour of Jeremy's as well? Would love to see it!
Sadly, it wasn't possible...
sorry, we didn't
Bit curious to see & hear a more prog-ish take of "Broken Wings" played using this kit
Hard to believe this is the same guy who played on pop hits such as Broken Wings and Kyrie, which he rocked the shit out of, btw..
Wait a minute, where Is Jeremy??
😎🇺🇸🥁👍Vic!!!
the Nord drum has the best sounds, man
also - this is awesome!
Gavins kit sounds the best
And the "Vic's" t-shirt.
And now Jeremy´s :D
I like this guy (no gay)
Heisenberg.
He has such a Danny Carey vibe to him.
of course: Carey says KC was a HUGE influence on him and Tool.
Is that a rasputin t shirt?
I'm pretty sure that's Vic/Victor from Vic's Drum Shop..based in Chicago, I believe.
tradgrip lol

Hi Andy, it's Vic Salazar. The x-owner of Vic's drumshop-
Chicago, IL. USA
At 1:47 some woman in a tight dress walks across the stage...What is going on there?....lol.
He gives off a passive aggressive somewhat pretentious kind of vibe to me.
