I bought a RFB. It wouldn’t extract or feed, so I sent it in. They called me all mad and were like, “Did you fire it? There’s a break-in period”. / “I literally can’t break it in because all the bullets get jammed and stuck in the rifle”. / Them - “Oh..” conclusion - The repair list when it came back had 12-14 fixes and adjustments.

Hey Chris, when I first picked up my CMR-30 a few years ago I managed to develop a reload technique for it that I think significantly helps speed things up, and it's incredibly quick and seamless despite the unusual heel push release. Essentially you use your shooting grip hand to reload (Sacrilege I know) in one fluid motion by dropping your hand, pushing the heel of your palm into the release paddle, catching the mag as it drops, and then either simply dropping it or stowing it as you reach for your new mag, and then seat the fresh mag snugly into the grip with your pinkey as your other fingers find their place on the grip again. This technique lends itself very well to tactical reloads where you retain your magazine since the action of reaching down for the magazine is one in the same with the action of removing the old one. With your support hand keeping the rifle steady shouldered and on target you can get very rapid reloads very reliably without spending too much time reacquiring your target. Give it a try next time you take your "MP7 at home" out to play!

But, that's only when those are met, and if even one of those things are not true, it turns into a jamming machine. I even had to send mine back to Kel-Tec when the bolt blew up on me one time. Maybe it was an older model, or I hadn't cleaned it properly, but that was still an issue that was rather annoying. I sold it after about a year of owning it as I wasn't using it as much, but had the reliability been improved, or the tolerances been loosened, I probably would still have it to the day. I have both the PMR and CMR. They have proven reliable and extremely fun to shoot. I even customized a violin case to hold both along with seven magazines. I see no special reason to modify it even though the one you did is way cool. 22mag is my favorite caliber. Not the only caliber I’ll ever shoot but it’s fun and effective for civilian use. I really like this concept, I’ve been curious how the Ruger charger in 5.7 might fill a similar role with greater reliability, with the added advantage of being the correct barrel length from the factory, and the ability to add a number of different stock options based on personal preference.

Kel-Tec is the Rodney Dangerfield of the firearms industry. I don’t dislike Kel-Tec, but I just don’t trust any of their Firearms for self defense. For most of us, what they produce is considered a range toy. And that is ok. I just wish that they would produce the P32 in an all metal version with the MCarbo upgrades. Perhaps they could garner some respect from the Firearms community. That would be an Awesome pocket pistol!
I have kept mine in 16" and never had issues other than accidentally hitting the mag release occasionally. M carbo's mag catch fixed that, and their feed ramp is great, too. We've probably gone around 100 magazines worth of shooting over the years, 6 or 7 magazines at a time, then cleaning. Only a handful of misfeeds, no ejection issues. I guess I got a good one.🎉
Interesting, I’ve had very few issues with mine suppressed or otherwise, but you’re right about when it gets dirty and it does begin to malfunction some. I also experience gas blow back when suppressed but it’s not to bad. It’s an excellent light weight alternative to a 9mm carbine. The 22 magnum is often overlooked as a defense option.
I use 550 cord and a Magpul MS sling on my WASR. I looped the ends to fashion into a cheap ASAP-like attachment for the sling and a single loop up front. Good for having the sling in its intended purpose
Great breakdown, Chris! I have been wanting one of these so badly since they came out, hoping to make an "MP7 at home" type build so I can pretend to be a seal. Figured a barrel chop, suppressor, and a PEQ and we're rolling.
I’ve often thought the CMR-30 would make a great truck gun. Something capable of taking out a pest or predator. Also looks menacing enough if defense is required, while still having decent firepower for such a small lightweight package. That reliability though just creates to big of an issue for serious consideration.
@@thefrogking481 people are scared of firearms? People are more afraid of tactical looking firearms? Draw a marlin 60 in a crowd versus the CMR-30? Which do you think would have a stronger reaction?
This was going to be my solution to mp7 at home for a while, but then ruger went and dropped there line of 57's and now it makes more sense to get the 57 charger and get a folding/collapsing stock on it, don't have to worry about replacing /cutting down the barrel
Absolutely cool, Chris! I dig small PDW/carbines, too. Have you checked out the new Ruger LC Charger in 5.7? 10in barrel, pic rail on the back, and not made by KelTec!
Finally took mine out to the range, out 233 rounds, i had two issues, both of which I believe are at the fault of how I loaded the mags. Just failure to feed. I do have the MCARBO ramp and mag release. I love this gun.
Hi Chris, apperciate the video. Quirks not withstanding, I've loved my CMR 30 for over 3 years now. Only mods was adding a muzzle break that directs the blast forward and a 3-9X variable short scope. I usually shoot the Federal Game Shok 50 grain offerings, with few issues. Also have a vertical forearm grip. All the best! "The JJ" SW Penna.
I never thought I'd buy a .22 WMR gun, but then I picked up a Savage B22Mag rifle. Not sure why I bought it, with the lame plastic stock, but it is great fun, much more than any .22LR gun, very accurate, nice and light, now one of my favorites. I have been drooling over the CMR30 too.
I’ve found most ammo over 40grn works good. CCI is the best. The 50grn work great. Mine is pretty much stock. Getting ready to do some actual parts upgrades. I use that WD-40 dry lube. I cleaned out the mags, light sanded (600 grit) any sharp edges, and given it a wipe with the dry lube. Cleaned the heck out of the gun and used a light coating of the same lube. When I used regular CLP or WD it seemed to gunk up, foul out quicker and malfunction. Trying out the “Stuff and Things” mag extension, hopefully this week if I can get out to the range. Great video. Thank you.
My mother was a traveling nurse for a few decades so I got her a MK99 ( sexy ugly shorty of a Hungarian AK) because it was light, small and good Grammy gun because AKs run without all the maintenance. Well decades went by and she quite tracing so I got here a LWRC ICDI with all the furniture including a FAB Defense Podium bipod ( which is the bees 🐝 knees ). Well she has since gotten a little disabled mostly due to COPD & emphysema. So I’ve now given her a PMR & a CMR with a grip of mags. And of corse the CMR os decked out with all the things, including a bipod. I know most people scoff at a bipod on a CMR but for a 71 year old woman ( or anyone for that matter) it increases accuracy tremendously. All this being said her edc is a 365 with a light/laser but if shit got hairy she’s got some heat be it anyone of her weapon systems. She’s leaving in a day to take a road trip cross country and back and will be traveling with her 365 and her PMR & CMR along with one ammo can which holds more then enough 22 WMRs and 9mm. Oh worth side note she’s traveling with her BP vest and her MIRA gas mask. All this may seem excessive but with COPD if there is a fire or dust storm that would put her down and if you need to pick up arms because the situation has gotten hairy a BP vest only makes sense. Mothers and truckers make the world go round and you can never do enough for your momma Side note. Everyone says it won’t happen to me UNTIL IT DOES! She was in New Orleans for Katrina. And her hospital didn’t flood. They did shut down the hospital and used it as a staging area for supplies looted by LEOs & FF. The state AG landed a bird on the roof a few days later and ordered in the National Guard. There were 2 Doctors 4 nurses and two SWAT cops holding down that hospital till the Guard showed up and order everyone to leave. Anyhow back on topic. With a good understanding and proper training the CMR with the PMR are a very formidable load out. I mean a rifle a pistol and a thousand rounds weighs as much as a tricked out AR and a few mags. Mcarbo makes great parts. I run the stainless feed ramp and the upgrade magazine latch and it made a massive improvement in reliability. Also a little lube in the magazine helped feeding problems
This is a great setup for the Cmr30. During initial break in, mine had a lot of issues. Mcarbo replacement stainless steel feed ramp, and magazine catch made a huge difference. The heavier 50 grain rounds definitely function better than the 40 grains, for cycling the action. Dry lube the inside of the magazines.
I'm an "early adopter" of all thngs Keltec. I never expect my Keltecs to go the distance of milspec. I doubt I've fired more than 100 rounds through any Keltec (after break-in), so reliability (after break-in) has not been a problem. They always go boom when I pull the trigger. The 3AT is my daily carry gun with a belt clip. The only danger in it is that I forget it is there. My CMR30 blew up in my hands. I sent it to KelTec for repairs and then immediately sold it. Stay safe and don't cheap out on firearms. That being said one of my favorite guns is my KelTec P17.
Awesome review, I've owned a vanilla CMR-30 for about 2yrs and put about 3000rds of various ammo (all 40GR) and it has fired reliably with only 3 notable ftf. Loading the magazines with absurd consistency and accuracy is key. I feel that all of the breakages within the firearm come from massively irregular handling of the cartridges due to mag load anomalies.
22 mag is a good cartridge. I just wish they make match ammunition for it like you can get for 22LR. It could make long range rimfire shooting even more fun than it already is. This with a short barrel and an attachment for a single point sling(with provisions for a brace/stock)like an mp5k would be a cool setup.
I have a KelTec SU-22 which when using cheap ammo, jammed every third round. I ragged to the company and they rebuilt it on the spot (lifetime warranty) as I live 50 miles from the factory. I was told to use full metal jacket ammo and sent on my merry way, No problems since.

I really like this concept, I’ve been curious how the Ruger charger in 5.7 might fill a similar role with greater reliability, with the added advantage of being the correct barrel length from the factory, and the ability to add a number of different stock options based on personal preference.
Yes that's exactly what i was about to say. Mostly because 5.7 sounds better than 22 mag. Also kel-tec, not what you want to bet your life on.
@@revolverDOOMGUY Is 5.7 that much more powerful than 22 mag?or is it just realiability?
@@xBoaBoareliability. In terms of power they're fairly close.
@@xBoaBoa in terms of power and mass, very similar, but the 5.7 profile gives it a different role, closer to self defence and it is more stable. If I had to choose between the two in a fight I'd take 5.7
@@CentralTexasCarSpotter do me a favor and calculate how much energy 22 mag actually has on target. 79% of very little isn't a whole lot, even added onto that very little.
Haga Defense makes some neat-o goodies for the CMR-30. The forend extension brings the rail out to the muzzle and hides the wonky-looking 16' barrel.
Just wait for tommybuilt to drop his TP7s (MP7 semi auto)
@@AjackLee4 any idea what the MSRP is gonna be?
@@IntelGoons 3.7k I think
@@AjackLee4 ooooof little steep...I'll wait for reviews haha
@@IntelGoons That's literally 1/10th of what just a KIT for an original costs lmao. They'll be good, Tom does a nice job.
I’ve often thought the CMR-30 would make a great truck gun. Something capable of taking out a pest or predator. Also looks menacing enough if defense is required, while still having decent firepower for such a small lightweight package. That reliability though just creates to big of an issue for serious consideration.
What does menacing looks have to do with self defense?
That's an asinine thing to say.
Now I'm hoping that Ruger or S&W will copy Kel Tec's homework and make an improved pistol version of this.
Same here William. Would be great to have improved version. I'd buy it. 👍
Thanks for always keeping your reviews real.
The CMR30 is just a PMR30 with extra steps
Maybe a little? But you can't run the PMR30 suppressed. Even with the threaded barrel, KelTec advises against it
@@LuckyGunner can't? Hold my 🍺
😁
"legislative dumpster fire" is quite accurate
We have MP7 at home
The KelTec Bullpup 12 gauge is bad ass. I know a guy who had one and I absolutely love it….
Kel Tec = KMart…
Ty very informative. Been considering one of these for pest control around the farm
Prefer CP 33, myself.
I'm planning on getting one for livestock defense. Thanks for the review!
Absolutely cool, Chris! I dig small PDW/carbines, too. Have you checked out the new Ruger LC Charger in 5.7? 10in barrel, pic rail on the back, and not made by KelTec!
🥱
I love how they always have this super 80's looking grip texture
This needs to also be chambered 9n 9mm and 40s&w
Nah, .300 win mag!
Surprised it wasn't in 5.7
I think it should be in 5.7x28 honestly.
I'd rather get punched in the stomach than fire a Kel-Tec chambered in .40
@CarolinaRimfire I'll shoot it if someone else is paying for tye ammo.
Talk about damning with faint praise!
Thanks for the heads-up!
Keltec makes cool guns that other manufacturers will still and make better over time. . I been whating one of these theo for small game rig.
Just bought one and I’m so excited to take it to the range
im just here to say that is a GENIUS way to photograph something for the thumbnail without needing a stand, will keep that idea in mind!
I take it back, after adding the all in 1 upgrade kit from Mr. Carbo to my PMR-30 I ran 3 full 30 round magazines thru it with no malfunctions! Yay!
Thank you.
Wow what a great review! I was severely drooling over the toys! Thanks!😎🇺🇸
Mothers and truckers make the world go round and you can never do enough for your momma
Side note.
That’s all I have to say about that....
Unless your still reading and want more 😝
My momma told me, “ life is like a pond with leaches. You won’t know how bad it sucks till you go through it” 💥👊🏻🙏🇺🇸☦️
Hell yes I enjoyed this review. It was about Kel-Tec. Kel-Tech is just one of those where it's like a child you have to love it with all of its flaws.
I can say I am a 22 Mag fan boy and have taken many different kinds of game. A bolt action is my fav, but I have always wanted a semi auto, it wasn't designed for that and so I bolt action I will have. kudos to Kel Tech on the design.......BUZZ
22WMR is a strong round!Stronger than expected...heck even a tube fed semi auto...Is a good defense gun....Nice video!I really like that kel tech...in close varmint gun....or shoot at everything gun...just for fun...surprised it doesn't have 2 barrels...Maybe 3 barrels it would jam less!...Thanks for the.video...never heard of this gun...until now!
I’ve wanted the CMR30 since it came out, they’re so damn cool. I don’t care that it’s kel tec, i need it
Get one but make sure you get a speed loader because the mags are unique and difficult to load.
Decent option for those of us in England 👍
Keltec is the future of innovation today, with yesterday’s reliability issues. Still, awesome futuristic 💥
I have one and have abused it for years as a varmint gun around the farm and I’ve never had any issues with mine.
Not sure if you've reviewed the PMR 30, but now that you've fallen for the CMR 30, time to give us your take on the "little brother" to the CMR 30. Chris, great review as always.
My CMR30 blew up in my hands. I sent it to KelTec for repairs and then immediately sold it. Stay safe and don't cheap out on firearms. That being said one of my favorite guns is my KelTec P17.
Keltec make it with a brace!
Never wanted one before I saw this tan version! Ans you SBR'rd it! Kudos! Very nice! Yes, Please!
Finally, gun that's not ugly from Keltec came out!
Perfect for back to school!
Wow. I haven't seen a modern gun with a heel mag release before. Making the old new again. Neat.
Love my CMR-30. My favorite firearm!
If it goes up in price now I'm going to be so mad. I've been looking at them specifically for packing the past 4 months 😂 Great video
@3:18, that's because the ammo for the mp7 is outlawed in most places, 4.6x30mm is designed for one purpose, anti-kevlar vest
*HE’S BACK!*
Now do the Ruger LC Charger!
Did I go somewhere?
Ruger needs to do a version of this on the mark 4 platform.
Oh yes! I'd love a Mark IV like that!
It wouldn't be the first time Ruger ripped off Kel-Tec.
So happy to see 50rnd 9mm under $20 on the site
Be interesting to see one of these in 5.7 as a "lol this is a mp5.7"
Man, I love that Star Wars aesthetic.
Had no idea you guys were so close in Knoxville. Thats awesome.
Keltec, the not the norm gun company, keep doing what you are doing
