The back story to this is something else. He was sitting in his one room flat with no electricity and no money to turn it on. He tried to borrow a fiver to turn it back on but got no takers. He asked his mum. She told him XFactor was doing auditions in their area. She said that she would give him the fiver if he went and auditioned. Reluctantly, he went because he needed the money. He got thru that audition and this is the next one for a place in the show. He had been writing songs and singing for years by this point but with no big break and was at a very low point and struggling with a lot of issues. And then BOOM! He was on the show and wrapped up in that whirlwind.
That was the first time in 20 years that his parents were in the same room to support him.
You should 100% follow his xfactor journey. He was in the bottom 2 one week and had to sing off against fellow contestant Ella Henderson who was tipped to win the competition. Ella has subsequently made it too and I was lucky enough to see Ella supporting James on his arena tour in 2017 where they performed a song they wrote together, Let's go home together. Xx

i was moved so much by this video that when i was 15 i barely knew any english but decided to translated his audition into spanish. i still have the video on my channel and id like to say i learned english haha ;) love you guys, keep it up!
I remember watching xfactor back in the day and knew this guy had something special. Its amazing how much better he is now, james just seems to get better and better

Because his parents had reunited for his audition and have been separate for many years. At one time Janes was homeless and then he was living in a hostel. He’d left home having had family issues of some sort. He had no money and could’ve even pay his electricity bill. Then he went to to the audition and the rest is history.
