    Everyone keeps complaining that they're pitchy, but they don't include the fact that the artists that we all love are pitchy at times. This is an acapella group where your voice is drowned out by others. Of course it's difficult to have them all be perfect all at the same time. Which of YOUR artist's original songs aren't edited? Yeah, there are artists who are great live and sounds just as great as their studio version. But let's be realistic, they aren't perfect all the time. And their studio version sure as hell is edited. These guys worked hard and practiced hard to get to this level, and it's amazing and definitely admirable. Learn to appreciate and enjoy the music. That's why they put it up here. They're spreading the music, stop spreading animosity.

    • @redopha
      @redopha 5 лет назад

      The assumed search for perfection aside, the pitchiness seems to be a result of lack of blend caused by focusing too much on their own parts after a slip somewhere near 1:35. A cappella is literally all about control, blend, and dynamics, if something goes amiss, the sound is doomed to fail. They are all very talented and there's no taking away from that or the music itself, but as an a cappella group of that level, especially collegiate, they should know how to fix a blending issue the moment problems start occurring. During a performance, that can only be done through non-verbal communication with each other, not blind self-tuning. The fact that didn't happen shows that they were either off their A-game or brought personal matters onto the stage with them, which is understandable, but you don't praise or excuse a mistake on the basis that people are insulting them for it. Simple correction will suffice - it happened, yes, but as a talented group that can bring such a good sound to a studio, they'll get 'em next time. For now, we just enjoy the music and take it as it is. (and yes, I understand this is a comment from 3 years ago for a group that doesn't have the same composition of people anymore, but I figured it would be decent information to bring along for future reference. Defense won't do any good when you're making a moot point... group a cappella is an entirely different animal from mainstream solo/band vocals)

    Everyone needs to realize the HUGE differences between performing a song live with nerves and all, and standing in a calm and quiet recording studio. Seriously they're all extremely talented...all performers in the world need to improve in some aspect of their skills...

    • @ChrisColeChicago
      @ChrisColeChicago 9 лет назад

      ***** That's true, but the balance/pitch issues can be easily solved with a better sound experience (i.e. all on individual mics).

    • @likejohnnyandjune2024
      @likejohnnyandjune2024 9 лет назад +7

      But what if it was a competition? You can't be that pitchy at competitions. I think they couldn't hear each other well at all. They're really good, and I don't think nerves would get in the way that much. Maybe for the first few phrases, but if they could hear each other they might have been able to pull together.

    First of all. Amazing job! I really love the sound you guys are able to produce.
    I'm slightly annoyed by the harsh comments down here, honestly, I have no idea who you guys are I just got here via the studio version and found both versions marvellous. I have a good ear for pitch problems, and I'm not going to lie that there weren't any, but this was really great. People seem to have no idea how hard it is to be with a group and being in sync, and with that I mean your pitch and rhythm. This group has beautiful sound, and the studio version being 'better' than this one is not surprising, you get everyone as loud as you want and can record your mistakes over and over until you do it right. Give these some credit, it's a very hard song and even with those flaws it's still a great performance.

    Pitch issues no doubt, but at the collegiate stage, you learn to listen and adapt. Unfortunately, none of that happened. Altos went off immediately, the group never adjusted and the soloist took off into a performance all her own. Acapella music is all about a group owning it together, adjusting to the shifted pitch if necessary and this obviously didn't work. I'm sure there are works they just killed it at. This wasn't one of them.

    • @searsino
      @searsino 9 лет назад +4

      Rachael Petersen It gets unbearable at the start of the last verse. It sounded like the soloist (Abby Franklin?) went off pitch and never made it back. I also definitely heard a female voice going all over the place right around the 3:05 time. It just keeps getting worse as time goes by, lasting for over a minute! I too was disappointed because it's clear they were definitely touched up in a studio in order for this song go viral. It is so hard to find a group that sounds as good live as they do in the studio. I almost feel like I was cheated! :P

    • @searsino
      @searsino 9 лет назад +2

      mauia888 Music is performed in a particular "key" specified in most cases by someone who is leading the group and/or providing a tempo for the piece. If someone in the group veers off the correct key, you now have two groups of people singing in different keys. This (in most cases) can sound like nails on a chalkboard. You should be able to hear this "nail on chalkboard" effect around the 3:05 mark in the song. The soloist sounds like she is singing something that doesn't mesh whatsoever with what the rest of the group is doing.

    Pitchy, but there's also some kind of echo glitch going on which makes the pitchy parts sound really bad. The echo even makes the soloist sound out of tune with herself. Weird. Studio version is incredible.

    I think overexcited singers caused this to out of tune really easily. Applause to the sopranos and basses for holding it down. Tenors Altos, y'all disappointed me with that. Like, people who sing inner voice parts (alto/tenor myself included) have to realize that you have to be twice as good to get just as much appraisal. Tenors and Altos are generally overlooked. Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10 I don't appreciate the soloist yelling at me. Like, my vocal chords started hurting for her.

    This was so disappointing to watch. To the guy that commented saying that pop singers have pitch problems and that this is an a capella group so it happens, that isnt so. I am very familiar with a capella ensembles and tuning, pitch, overpowering parts shouldnt be an issue with any legit a capella group. I dont even think I could listen to the studio recording of this anymore without thinking of how disappointing the real thing is. Chandelier is a hard song. At first I thought this was just about the worst A Capella song I had ever heard until I realized that there was some kind of glitch that made it so everything was being echoed about 1.4 second delay. It sounded like they may be doing it for some kind of cool effect and it definitely didn't sound good so I hit dislike and left the page... and the song kept going. Except without the echo. That's when I realized it was a glitch. :) Now I can listen to it and like it, although I do agree they have a little bit of pitchiness. Overall they are pretty amazing.
