They should go china way and start funding government companies more. Why should our tax money should goto private companies with zero risk who than could sell the weapons back to military which would buy the inflated cost with again our tax money.

    • @death_parade
      @death_parade 3 месяца назад +5

What an !d!0tic suggestion. Private companies need assurance of orders, not government money. Assurance of orders requires that the Forces take ownership of the weapons programs, instead of giving them the step-fatherly treatment currently being meted out. How many Indian weapons have cleared all user trials and still not been ordered yet? Therein lies the problem. No private company will invest in a loss making venture, no matter how much money you throw at them.

Well, there you have it! After the first interview of the new air chief, it’s curtains for the Tejas Mk 1 and Mk 1A. Now, the focus has suddenly shifted to the Tejas Mk 2 and the ever-elusive AMCA.
And as for the Tejas Mk 1-cobbled together with components from Israel and Russia-well, good luck getting those now! It seems like the only thing they’re consistent at is canceling plans and chasing pipe dreams. Maybe they’ll launch a Mk 3 before the Mk 2 even leaves the drawing board!

Currently we’re in a state where we’re surrounded by more than one enemy and IAF’s current inventory shows that we’re not prepared for a multi front war. Even the major projects are being delayed which is concerning. Our mistakes from the past are now pulling us downwards. The government and the armed forces need to work harder if we wish to reach a point where our military power is unbeatable in Asia.

There is a lot of hype around 5th gen fighters and AMCA but he is absolutely spot on - our main target should be Tejas mk1A and mk2, NOT AMCA. Our priority right now should be quantity. We need a huge number of these 4 and 4.5 gen fighters and also the capacity quickly repair and build new ones. Fancy aircrafts will look good on paper but fleet size will win you wars.

    - 114 MRFA...if even 72 is imported thinking that let's fill other half with Tejas squad...it will highly damaging - Bcoz France will suck the Funding which could have been used for Our own production... Hal ko bhi refurbishment ki zarurat hai. Of course GE 'supply chain' issue ek important reason hai delay ki par har cheez uspe dala nahi ja sakta... Vayu sena ko Tejas Mk-2 and AMCA dono chahiye. HAL, DRDO aur har defence sector ke organizations ko aur efficient models apnane padhenge. Bahar ke elements ko hum control nahi kar payenge par kam se kam apna cheezo ko toh hum fully efficient bana le? Ukraine war se ek cheez pata chal gaya hai ki Russia ka war preparedness ko le kar kaafi sawal uthe hai... Hum woh galti nahi daurana chahenge.

The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) strategy to move directly from the Tejas single-engine Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) to the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) raises questions about the risks involved in bypassing an intermediate development stage. This intermediate stage would ideally include the development of a twin-engine aircraft using the indigenous Kaveri engine, which has yet to be tested in such a configuration. Here’s a critical examination of the strategic considerations in this approach:
    1. Risk of Insufficient Testing for Kaveri Engines
The Kaveri engine program has faced significant challenges over its development timeline, with limitations in thrust and reliability testing. The IAF’s leap directly to AMCA, a fifth-generation stealth fighter, assumes that the Kaveri engine will perform adequately in a twin-engine setup without extensive in-field validation. An intermediate twin-engine aircraft, perhaps in the form of a prototype or limited series production, could provide the necessary data on operational durability, performance under combat conditions, and adaptability to various mission profiles. Skipping this step risks deploying unproven engines on an advanced platform, potentially compromising reliability and mission success.
    2. Technology Maturity and Risk Management
The Tejas platform, while impressive, represents a different class of aircraft than the AMCA, with fewer operational complexities and lower power demands due to its single-engine design. Transitioning directly from Tejas to the AMCA increases the engineering and logistical challenges since a stealth-capable, twin-engine platform with cutting-edge systems will push the Kaveri engine to its limits. An intermediate twin-engine platform would allow the Kaveri engine to mature in a more forgiving environment and build a progressive foundation for the AMCA program.
    3. Cost Implications of AMCA Failures
Developing a twin-engine aircraft with the Kaveri engine as an intermediate step may seem costly at first, but it could save resources in the long run. If the AMCA suffers from significant engine failures or underperformance due to insufficient Kaveri testing, the IAF may face considerable additional costs for retrofitting, redesigning, or even replacing engine components post-production. Developing an intermediate Kaveri-powered platform could mitigate this risk and offer more budget stability by allowing incremental improvements based on real-world feedback.
    4. Optimizing Production Timelines
The IAF’s current strategy to jump directly to AMCA could face delays if the Kaveri engine reveals critical issues that need to be resolved, slowing down the entire timeline. An intermediate twin-engine project would allow India’s aerospace industry to parallelize development by addressing Kaveri’s limitations while continuing AMCA research. This way, both programs can progress with reduced dependency on each other’s schedules, leading to faster and more efficient advancements.
    5. Strategic Independence and Self-Reliance
Relying on the imported GE engines for Tejas aligns with India’s immediate defense needs but does little for self-reliance in critical areas like engine technology. Bypassing an intermediate twin-engine Kaveri-powered aircraft could mean that India’s indigenous engine development remains under-validated, undermining the long-term goal of self-reliant defense. By introducing a Kaveri-powered twin-engine platform, the IAF can demonstrate genuine strides in indigenous capabilities, increasing confidence in India’s ability to produce a fully indigenous AMCA down the line.
    Conclusion
Directly advancing from the Tejas to the AMCA is an ambitious strategy, but it comes with significant risks that could impact the program’s success. Developing an intermediate twin-engine aircraft with Kaveri engines offers a phased approach, enabling essential real-world testing, reducing long-term costs, and aligning better with India’s goals of defense self-reliance. This intermediate step would allow the IAF to fully understand and refine Kaveri’s performance under twin-engine conditions, making it a more reliable option for a critical platform like the AMCA.

Russia's Nightmare Ukraine rocket drone!! This just like a glide bomb capable of taking off from a Runway using its rocket engine.. In a way it is a very fast flying bomb or a rocket assisted bomb that does not rely on fighter planes!!
Fighter planes are used for bombing. In order to drop 5 tons of Ammo you require to send a 20 ton aircraft.. with a very high cost to operate and maintain!!
The defense force is counting on the number of drones they obtain and use while the reality is we require countless numbers of these!!!

We should note that if India has dependence on foreign supplies, so do Pakistan. Further, we are not likely to have any conflict with either China or Pakistan in the near future and even if we have it, it will be a short term one. India will use its surface to air and surface to surface missiles and IAF in an optimal way to ensure that any inadequacies of IAF are sorted. Further, no country can be 100% fully independent in defense area but yes, on crucial items and technologies, we should be definitely atma nirbhar. Finally, never rely on USA when you need them most; rely on Israel, France and Russia in that order.

Quantity has a quality of its own! IAF or Indian def forces continue to chase quality even if they can't obtain it from anywhere! and whatever they can get is in very low numbers at a very high cost! In the meanwhile they ignore Quantity but the truth is that quantity has a quality of its own and only if we are able to produce a significant quantity ourself then only we can improve and innovate!!
We ignored russian engine s for western engines as a result we are stuck! DRDO continue to make false promises!
A FPV drone with a 20 kg payload can be assembled for Rs 80, 000 but instead of assembling it themselves army buy it from vendors who charge 50-100 times more!!
In Russia Ukrain war more than couple of million FPV drones has been utilised and they are sourcing the components from everywhere and also making it themselves!!
Indian vendors are not making the components including the low tech components like motors, propellors, sensors or actuators and permanent magnets etc!!

Under the present circumstances that IAF is in, even half a doz Rafael could be decisive. This is a 4.5 Gen fighter and would act as force multiplier. So 36 Rafaels could make a huge difference. Totally a wrong decision by IAF/Govt in not pushing for 36 or more Rafaels, while contnuing with TEJAS & AMCA program.

That’s going to be a train wreck of a decision. With Russia knee-deep in conflict, supply chain disruptions are guaranteed to make India rethink its choices. You won’t get your Su-30MKIs upgraded, nor will you be able to switch to any other system. So what’s left? Extending the lifespans of the Mig21 and Jaguars-again. Maybe their real strategy is to see how long they can keep flying museum exhibits before anyone notices!

Pakistan also retired all mirage III and V except a few upgraded ones-waiting for new JF-17 Block-III, J-10C, J-31, KAAN, and our own PFX.
Meanwhile, India’s still hyping its imaginary Tejas MK2 and AMCA, 4.5th-gen fighters that’s been "coming soon" for the past decade. Quite the "race," isn’t it?

It is too small -- that's what soon to be "Chief of Air Force" has to say, after 15 years of testing who is associated with this program from the beginning, we missing clarity at the very basic level....doesnt matter whoever it is MoD, AF, DRDO, HAL....🤦🤦🤦🤦
Its bizzare, frustrating, hilarious, at the same time dis-heartning to know this...that our DARPA (DRDO) and LM-Aero(HAL) just wanted to design and built something and later on pushed it down the throat of our forces....who all are behind this conceptualization of building this "so-called" "too small" aircraft just for show?? WTH?
What was AF doing all these years?? To now come to the public saying it is too small? Kudos 👏👏 till now we are building just a test bed for AMCA and Tejas MK2👏👏👏👏

It surely could have been different if we could have continued with procurement of 36 more Rafale F3, modified to Indian requirement, following the option clause of that G to G procurement. The second batch of 36 Rafale could have been of lesser price than previous 36 numbers due to less the price of infrastructure & training of personnel already taken in the first batch.
The supply of 72 Nos., specially Rafale fighter planes are surely a great force multiplier.
Now we have nothing. Leave USA, a small country Denmark is now able to delay our Tejas MK IA delivery by it's tiny component, Engine starting charger ! What kind of planning is this. We even don't have a breathing time to develop & manufacture Tejas Mk I A, Tejas Mk II. We don't even start engine manufacturing of GE F414.( 80%TOT). They can screw us by that 20% by any time like they did with F404. Our only hope is Kaveri 2.0 engine & 110 KN new engine with Safran. Any delay in this will lead us to dark hollow.
