Just watched this for the first time a couple of days ago. Absolutely loved it. Made me realize i need more Truffaut films in my cinematic diet. I can only imagine how much fun it would have been seeing it "blind."
I remember years ago seeing this on the BBC when they had a spot called World Cinema when foreign films were shown every week, i remember this being really good .
This is one of very few Truffaut films that I’ve yet to see. My copy arrived yesterday, so I’ll be watching it very soon. Thanks for the review, Graham! I’ll come back and comment when I’ve watched it.
First time seeing a Truffaut film, and oh my, what a great introduction this is to seeing his work! So glad I got to watch this thanks to the production from Radiance Films!
Hey Graham. The Bride wore Black had been sitting at the top of my watch pile for months now. As a devout Truffaut fan I’ve wanted to see this for years and Radiance answered that call. My wife loves all things French New Wave so I dutifully waited until we both had time to watch it together. This fabulous watch definitely didn’t disappoint and was worth the wait. Such a stunning and stylish revenge mystery. Both my wife and I were captivated. Well done Radiance! The one thing that bewildered me after watching it was the well documented distain Tarantino has for Truffaut as a director. Such a strange opinion one you’ve seen The Bride Wore Black…..? A story of a Bride seeking revenge on her husband’s killers, told in an episodic manner, with the protagonist striking off her list of targets. Hhhmmm? Sounds familiar. I digress as usual….. Finally got to strike this gem off my own list and it was a joy to do so.
I had exactly the same thought. It clearly had an impact on kill bill. Amazing film though. Radiance are killing it. You need to get The Dead Mother, loved to hear your thoughts on that one.
Ah, haven't watched this in ... more than 20 years or so. I will revisit it soon. I am working my way through most of the Woolrich based/written films at the moment. There are so many good ones ... Rear Window, Leopard Man, Black Angel, The Chase, Deadline at Dawn ... and the great, great, great (maybe not the best but I love that film): Night Has a Thousand Eyes.
I have the Spanish bluray but this release wi,, probably be b I have the Spanish Bluray but will upgrade to this release in particular for the extras. Hitchcock saw it and liked it very much ,especially the poisoning scene, and it must have been a big influence on Kill Bill.
I've been pretty stingey with Truffaut's films. I loved The 400 Blows, and I kinda liked his next two movies, but those are all I've seen of his. I should watch more. I heard that this is Truffaut in thriller mode, which interests me greatly...

Feel is like it would have influenced QT with the story of kill bill
We love this movie and Jeanne is wonderful in it.
A force of nature in the film.

It’s playing in the Hitchcock world
I've got this one in order and looking forward to it.
An absolute cracker of a film. I think you’d like it a lot.
