Well, I think more and more bands who incorporate lots of different styles in their music and/or play different styles, have been getting more and more popular because of Radiohead. I am still amazed how a band like Radiohead is super famous though considering what is famous on the radio these days and they are one of the few artists today that are super famous that I like. I do know fame is not "everything" for me and lots of people though as musicians.
I'm from China, being a fan of Radiohead for over 20 years. In 1998, I was one day at a friend's house, when I about to leave, he gave me this album called "Ok computer". He said: 'throw it away or take it away, just keep it from my sight.' I got curious and had to listen to it. After the first time I listened to the whole album. I felt lost, depressed and something like seasickness. I decided to throw it away as my friend told me to. Before I do that I was caught up in something so I just left it on my desk. However, for the rest of that week, this music just stuck in my head. So I listened again. and again, and again...before I knew it I got obsessed with it and radiohead became my favorite band of all time. To see a live show of them is on top of my bucket list.

"That's right! Radiohead's popularity caused them to transcend the laws of mathematics." I'm trying not to wake up my dad but this was funny and I Iaughed very loud.
What a unique, amazing band. Lot of times I try to explain Radiohead to myself and I can't. I became a fan cause I kept hearing nothing but insane praise of them. At first I had to really listen, listen and get in a whole music mode. I was so glad I did because I really was spending so much time on my phone, playing video games and just went back to the old school way where I would have headphones on most of my free time and some of my busy time. I just see such a solid group of fans, just watching Reddit posts and watching new fans start to really get the band. There is not even a band in the same atmosphere as Radiohead. By that I don't mean they are so much better, but they just are so unique and they just stay consistent and just are always fresh. Just imagine a bottle of milk in your fridge, every time you drink it or use it, you go back and the bottle is super fresh, new expiration date, and full to the top. That is them.
Radiohead is of extreme importance to me. Its my migrane music. I need their music to function. Whenever i have migranes (about 2-3 times a week) i need to listen to Radiohead, Esbjörn Svenson Trio or Lars Daniellson. Thanks for keeping me sane!
I can't describe how much I love this band. eversince I stared getting into music I would always listen to them they changed my life. The ranking would go IMO 1. Kid A 2. Ok Computer 3. In Rainbows 4. A Moon Shaped Pool 5. Hail To The Thief 6. The Bends 7. The King of Limbs 8. Pablo Honey 9. Amnesiac
Bravo, Matt Beat! I agree. Radiohead, though anomalous, fits alongside the classic greats (Beatles/Floyd/Zep) and alt.rock greats of the 80s & 90s and even supersedes them as the point of critically acclaimed rock. There is never a commercial compromise with these guys and they always keep you guessing, questioning and opening your mind. I hear the influence in bands of today like Muse
Amnesiac wasn't the "leftovers" of the Kid A sessions. The were just both written and recorded at the same time. Like you said, they took a long break after OK Computer so they came back with a ton of material. Enough for two albums. The narrative that Amnesiac is some B-side compilation of Kid A is so tired and wrong.
I like amnesiac because its alsmost like an even darker version of kid a with songs like packt like sardines in a crushed tin box and pulk/ pull revolving doors.
I remember listening to "creep" for the first time in an alternative music club in West Palm Beach-FL. I loved it immediately. I bought Ok Computer right away after it came out. I listened and listened to that record over and over. Before Ok Computer became the record of the year, I already knew it was fantastic. Incredibly they are still making great music. I hope that they will be around for a long long time.
paranoid plane97 Yeah, because both of them have introduced, not created, a lot of genres/techniques for creating music. Radiohead also changed how we listen to music as well. I think their lyrics are honestly up there with The Beatles and Bob Dylan. It seems like they haven’t hit a major snag either.
@@paranoidplane9799 not really. The Beatles gave this world quite an amount of popular songs, but Radiohead are going in another direction. They explore the essence of Music itself, they are cosmically far ahead of any other band. They are smarter than The Beatles enough - not to have broken in freakin' seven recording years after a silly egoistic disagreement. They are as deep as Pink Floyd, but melodically and rhythmically are way much more talanted and skillful. And how many great albums does it need to be considered a classic group? Radiohead have done them. And the Story has just begun...
random fact: if you check the music video for karma police and scroll down through the comments, on mr beat's main account, one comment states: The greatest band of all time. Tell your kids. (not saying that i disagree)
i wish there was more mention of their collaborative relationship with Paul Thomas Anderson, and just their impact on film music in general, just last year Thom Yorke scored the remake of Suspiria and Johnny Greenwood has scored 4 PTA films. Thats's not even mentioning the fact that PTA directed the video for daydreaming or the absolutely astounding short film he made with Yorke for his latest album, 'Anima' but, i guess i'm just too much of a film geek.
Radiohead, the kind of band that can make a good album off of songs that didn't make the cut for previous albums (the 11 added songs on OKNOTOK could make a decent album, like Amnesiac)
11:13 my cousin won tickets to see this show, she is the biggest Radiohead fan. This is a great journalist piece, and the ending is truly accurate! Well put... Thanks for this great work.
Thanks so much for the synopsis. Saw them 3 times. Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief
So much respect for this band...thank you so much .
I was like, "Is Mr. Beat doing bands now?!"
Glad I stumbled upon your music channel!
Pink floyd?!
The Pink Floyd is the best. Better than Pink Floyd
Thank you! So much Floyd influence in their songs!
Decks Dark is one of their underrated songs
Is that a symphonic version of I Promise in the background?
chef. Heck yeah. I put the link to it in the description.
dope
You really know your shit you know that?
"That's right! Radiohead's popularity caused them to transcend the laws of mathematics."
I'm trying not to wake up my dad but this was funny and I Iaughed very loud.
The fact a gem like in rainbows was free, is simply marvelous
Radiohead is of extreme importance to me. Its my migrane music. I need their music to function.
Whenever i have migranes (about 2-3 times a week) i need to listen to Radiohead, Esbjörn Svenson Trio or Lars Daniellson.
Thanks for keeping me sane!
The beat goes on? The beat goes round and round!
I can't describe how much I love this band. eversince I stared getting into music I would always listen to them they changed my life. The ranking would go IMO
1. Kid A
2. Ok Computer
3. In Rainbows
4. A Moon Shaped Pool
5. Hail To The Thief
6. The Bends
7. The King of Limbs
8. Pablo Honey
9. Amnesiac
I wouldn’t rate Amnesiac that low, put it above The Bends. Other than that solid list.
Amnesiac is better than httt imo
Same here.
I agree with your entire list although one tiny change AMSP before I.R
How the fuck is amnesiac at the bottom, bad list man, the king of limbs should be at the bottom
I really hope they all live for ever
Have you heard Thom on PJ Harvey's 'this mess we're in'? Amazing track!
Just saw the boys in Pittsburgh last night, and they’re definitely still at the top of their game!
Criminally underrated channel! learned a lot from this video.
A band that stays relevant for 50years
Probably more than 50 years, I think they will be relevant to many people in over a hundred years
Amnesiac wasn't the "leftovers" of the Kid A sessions. The were just both written and recorded at the same time. Like you said, they took a long break after OK Computer so they came back with a ton of material. Enough for two albums. The narrative that Amnesiac is some B-side compilation of Kid A is so tired and wrong.
Thanks man. I love Amnesiac.
yeah, amnesiac songs would not have fit in with the kid A vibe
I'm glad they didn't make Kid A double album.
I like amnesiac because its alsmost like an even darker version of kid a with songs like packt like sardines in a crushed tin box and pulk/ pull revolving doors.
Deserves more likes.
hands down my favorite band ever.
Mr Beat knows his stuff. Great work...keep them coming!!!
Many don't know this, but Radiohead's first gig overseas was in Tel Aviv. In a place called Roxane.
Great brief history man, I enjoy every video you make hope you resume making videos in the future.
This is so good. They need to make a radiohead film.
Every week I tune into the BBC's 'In Rainbows' live session from the Basement.
Danny A me, too! For years...
I love that session...especially "You're all I Need"...Itd be so cool to sit-in on that live...
Are you Mr. Beat
The way he pronounces Abingdon "Abington" makes me cry
Greatest band of all time.
I just noticed that Johnny Greenwood might have the most squared head on the planet. Dude's cheeks are two right angles!
Never thought I'd hear Mr beat talk about Radiohead
radiohead's been real quiet since this dropped :(
How you feelin now?
I remember listening to "creep" for the first time in an alternative music club in West Palm Beach-FL. I loved it immediately. I bought Ok Computer right away after it came out. I listened and listened to that record over and over. Before Ok Computer became the record of the year, I already knew it was fantastic. Incredibly they are still making great music. I hope that they will be around for a long long time.
Found you on indieheads, this is awesome dude! Can't wait for more stuff
+JoshuaKaluba Thank you so much!
Fucking amazing band! Probably the best band of the past 50 years
In Rainbows was the first “good” album I ever really got into
The Bends is AWESOME!!!
The Best
Planet Telex is my favorite Radiohead song
i love how their name came from a talkinghead song, my 2 favourite bands be linking
I like how I promise is playing in the background at the start
The only sad thing is not talking a little more about Jonny Greenwood's avant-garde music scores for PTA
I'm from a town nearby Abingdon but radiohead is one of my favourite bands ever
I learned about Radiohead from South Park. Im very glad. They are awesome!
Thank you for pronouncing place names correctly.
I still think the Bends is their best album.
It’s a tie between the Bends and Kid A for me as their best albums.
the Bends is highly underrated
It's my favourite :)) unfortunately I get a lot of insults because of it
You forgot Rez Peterson, who played Saxophone. He was a part of On a Friday before Jonny joined the band.
Sorry Rez!
I think they've taken over from Pink Floyd as the musical overlords of quality & distinction!
In my personal opinion I belive they've become equals to the Beatles.
paranoid plane97 Yeah, because both of them have introduced, not created, a lot of genres/techniques for creating music.
Dang. Thank you. Very informative and well done.
random fact: if you check the music video for karma police and scroll down through the comments, on mr beat's main account, one comment states: The greatest band of all time.
Thats's not even mentioning the fact that PTA directed the video for daydreaming or the absolutely astounding short film he made with Yorke for his latest album, 'Anima'
but, i guess i'm just too much of a film geek.
Radio head is just a complicated way of finding music in it's purest form.
Radiohead, the kind of band that can make a good album off of songs that didn't make the cut for previous albums (the 11 added songs on OKNOTOK could make a decent album, like Amnesiac)
some of them kinda did make a decent "mini-album". That would be the Airbag/how am i driving EP which has 7 of those -i've played that one a lot!
jorgepeterbarton
Great EP. I listened to that as much as, OK Computer when it was released.
One of my fav channels bc of this series can’t wait for him to do Alice In Chains
I think In Rainbows was their best album.
Me: You're Thom Yorke!
Thom Yorke: I am who I am
Me: My dad loves your shit
Also Me: *Vomits and cries from emotional pain and alcoholism*
oke
Im baby
When my dad died I got all of his old CDs when he was a teen... Lot of Duran duran and radiohead
lil queso aw, that’s something amazing to find :)
Omg I didnt know Mr.Beat had a music channel yet it makes way more sense than the history one
11:13 my cousin won tickets to see this show, she is the biggest Radiohead fan. When this tragedy occured, she was disappointed...but not for very long, considering The Flaming Lips were giving a free show that night.
She did eventually see Radiohead when they came back to Toronto in 2017; the band gave a minutes silence for the deceased.
