Love Ms Shaw’s work. Modern music that is interesting and isn’t just noise.
Beautiful piece by a wonderful composer and a fine orchestra.
Thank you!:)
Beautiful!
Thanks!
I tend to agree with Steven J, but for a different set of reasons. The music , like most opuses beyond mid-20th century, is rather transparent and lacks structure, which is not related to its genesis as a piece for string quartet. This piece is like a bad dream or bad drug trip, where it's not possible to know whether any of the instruments are playing the correct notes. Avant-garde types probably fawn over crud like this... but it's still atonal trash.
According to Shaw’s score, it’s in Menuet and Trio form.
It definitely has an ABA structure. It's a beautiful piece that uses tonal elements in a nostalgic way. It isn't avant-garde, but it does have more emphasis on texture than a traditional piece. It really is quite beautiful and maybe that's enough for a short piece.
as an "avant garde type" I did enjoy it a lot--I understand your criticisms of it though
It's also very tonal, and functionally so at that
This is certainly not atonal. Your opinion that this is trash is just your opinion.
Crap played by a wonderful orchestra…
You are incorrect.
@@claudiawoods3854SI feel sorry for the musicians of that fine orchestra.....
At least we both agree that this is an excellent orchestra!!!
I don’t know - I think some of this is quite ravishing - especially the opening repeated chordal figures that lead to harmonic suspensions.
Personally I don’t think this orchestra has the best interpretation of the piece. You might prefer the string quartet recording
