Those mutt breeders are styled as heroes in AKC literature. 150-400 yrs ago, I’m sure they were the equivalent of “backyard breeders/puppy mills.” Acting high and mighty as or about a “purebred breeder” considering the 60 minutes special on how loose the AKC paperwork standards are/were up until recently for AKC “purebred” dogs is a laughable joke. She promotes cleanliness and genetic testing of the breeding dog unavailable from puppy mills. She works hard to ensure standards after the birth. Weights, sensitivity training, and even promotes/encourages after purchase behavior training programs and consultations. No puppy mill does that. She has a waiting list of purchasers, who hopefully, are smart enough to do their due diligence. In my 60+ years, I have owned cats and dogs, purebred and mutts. I have bought from “backyard breeders,” a “show dog breeders” and once unfortunately a “puppy mill.” Is she a business, yes, but then so are show breeders who promote standards that dock tails, do not allow the dog to do what it was bred to do as a working dog and are kept caged to protect their owners investment.
I agree as my poodle X was surrendered from a puppy farm along with nearly 200 doggies. Unfortunately he was obviously the runt of the litter and ran wild in a paddock until nearly 2. It has taken tine to get him to be more confident but it would have been easier if he'd been taught things at an earlier age. It's really hard to do it at 3+years and puppy preschools won't let you go because they're too old!

Hi, I recently found your channel. I love it! My wife is a dog physical therapist. When she watched the video she commented that the new harness may be limiting the range of motion in the front shoulders. Just something you might want to consider or discuss with your vet or dog physical therapist.
I have never heard of a dog PT, I am a human PT! I only practice PRN now, I appreciate her advice. I have the straps well adjusted and Bella’s movement is not restricted but a one size fits harness - I could definitely see that happening!

Congratulations! 😁 My wife is German and we semi retired and live 6 months a year in Germany and 6 months in VT. She works at a regional vet clinic outside of Frankfurt that specializes in orthopedic problems for primarily dogs and horses. There are a few schools that teach it here. Hers was a 2 year full time / 3 year part time program with written and practical exams and an internship requirement. At the clinic they have the possibility to do hydro therapy and laser therapy as appropriate, in addition to typical apparatus and massage. It’s a very cool place. Here in Germany some of the physical therapists are a part of various Vet practices and some have their own private practice. She does not try to practice in the USA aside from helping friends if there are problems.
This type of harness is generally recommended by Delra dog trainers in Australia rather than having the connection on the back. If the dog has back issues (like one of mine) then a head halti attached to the lead is better. Back issues seem to flow from hip displaysia and my puggie X has a Bermuda triangle on her back that flares up. My vet does acupuncture and spinal adjustment so he was the one to recommend going back to the head halti. Animal therapy & rehab is growing in Australia.
Clara , your wife would be correct . The only way to stop pulling is through training methods . These harnesses do limit a dogs range of motion , alter their gait and put pressure on muscles that naturally help extend the shoulder joint .
Both prongs and harnesses are tools that can be beneficial if used right and harmful if used wrong. Only advice if from research I’ve done (by no means a professional) the d ring placement can cause gait problems if too much pulling is applied. But like mentioned there is positives and negatives to all tool and you just have to find what works for you and your dog!! I do love the magnetic closure!
We lost our cockapoo a month ago. I have been so sad. Finding you has been a happy spot for my heart. You are so pleasant, calm and cheerful. And of course these precious puppies 🐶.
By the way I work with a professional trainer who uses prong collars. The way we use them, the dogs only feel it when they are out of position. We never allow them to pull into them, and we try to make sure they always have a chance to avoid it in the first place. I have tried front clip harnesses. They do not work for my dog, and if it weren't for the prong collar, I would never have moved past my front gate. Now Mischa and I travel the country together. Not that you were in this video, but we must not be a society that shames people for equipment or training choices! The fact is, in some cases, it's life changing.
This is spot on!!! Our girl is a "sensitive breed" who got kicked out of puppy class at 6 months old. The trainer (pure positive force free) told me a prong or ecollar would make my girl's reactivity worse. I am here to tell you, we can take her anywhere now! People need to realize tools could be the difference between a dog living or dying.
I own a pittie. We tried the easy walk, the harness from this video. We use a gentle leader now because a prong is not an option for a sensitive trachea. But I feel you 100%, I am behind the HUMANE use a prong. It didn’t work for us so we found another way. We also use ecollar which we adore and makes training run smoothly.

I might try that harness because of the magnetic closure. All the other harnesses I’ve tried get caught and rip out Penny’s fur - even fitted properly. We tried the prong for training walks and that ended up being a lot safer for her. Now days she’s really good at heeling so we just use a flat collar now but we need something more supportive for hiking. This harness might do the trick I think!

She's currently learning how to notice she needs to pee in plenty of time, to hold it and get my attention. She's also still learning to not jump on other dogs or people, bite and chew. Hi, just FYI it is illegal to import ring collars into Australia. Our RSPCA does not recommend their use at all. I have used the chest harnesses for some time as my poodle X pulls. I have to use the head halti for my other pug × dog but it has a D ring connection to her collar-she has a back issue so the chest harness was exacerbating it! I'd pavement surf if I didn't use harnesses for each😀😀🇦🇺🇦🇺

Hey, good that you use a harness but the way you use it it sits on the shoulder bone and will hinder free movement. I also had the impression that it's too narrow behind her front leg. If you hinder the free movement of the shoulder the dogs will start to change their movement a bit and it could caus damage in the long run.
I would look at Upstate Canine Academy RUclips channel for information on the prong collar. They are 100% safe when used correctly. Front clip harnesses restrict the movement of the shoulders which is not good for your dogs. This video implies that prong collars are bad, which is not true.
The harness you are showing does not allow freedom of shoulder movement. This can cause damage to the shoulders over time. This is what happened to my dog. I now only use harnesses that allow full shoulder movement. Examples of harnesses that allow freedom of shoulder movement include the Blue9 Balance harness and the PetSafe 3-in-1. You don’t want to use any harness that has a horizontal type strap across the chest and shoulders. Look for a V neck style. The Trendy Whippet also has a great harness.
Hi Erin! I used to work in Childbirth and we used the under buttocks pads that are smaller version of what you use beneath the puppies but the pads were marked “this side down” on the brown size. Could you maybe be using your pads upside down?

Bringing home an 8 week old puppy at the end of June. How do you feel about a noise machine for one or 2 naps a day so I can get things done in the a.m and maybe in the afternoon. Just for a couple weeks while crate/potty training?
Sometimes I let the families pick. Traditionally I like a boxy head, wavy coat, and usually the most red. I’ll add an apricot in so we can can have a variety. But most of my families want a red doodle!
My kids are apart of our puppy life. And I’m very blessed to be doing this full time now. So the kids at school I do the errands or puppy apts. That way when they are home it’s my time with JP and them!
Those dogs walk so well on lead, we are having trouble with our dog who is 3 years old, he pulls so bad, we are trying heel work, we use a slip collar, we did have an harness with front and top lead clip but this just made him worse xx
Hey! Enjoying your channel. Just wanted to say most harnesses are not great for large dogs that like to pull. There are restrictions around their shoulders that make it difficult for the dog to walk normally. Over time they can cause possible dislocations of the shoulder and muscle strain/pain. I’m sure purely positive folks are giving you a hard time about the prong collars, but if it isn’t broken don’t fix it. If used correctly prong collars are a great tool! Good luck 🍀
I would also wonder about that. These harnesses look to ride pretty low and tight around the dogs’ shoulders/armpits. I think front clip harnesses are a fabulous, gentle tool, but I would not purchase this one…. There are many other, better (imho) choices out there! 🐾🐾

Shock collars and prongs should be banned, you shouldn't have to inflict discomfort on an animal to make it do what you want it to. I walk around 20 dogs a day, atleast 5 at one time, all sizes, breeds and energies and not 1 has a prong or shock collar so.......
Well it does look as though your dogs are well trained those harness and prong collars are all training tools. The goal for those should be to not have to use them eventually. Those harness aren’t good for growing puppies as if they pull it can really restrict them and is not good for growing joints.

There are veterinarians who are actually board certified in Canine rehabilitation. And vet techs can do the same thing.

That is WAY too early unless your breeder is adding supplements to the milk. Usually people wait until 3 1/2-4 weeks (4 is preferred)

Sometimes I let the families pick. Traditionally I like a boxy head, wavy coat, and usually the most red. I’ll add an apricot in so we can can have a variety. But most of my families want a red doodle!

When does this lady get time for her home and family as having a puppy is a full time job I find.
My kids are apart of our puppy life. And I’m very blessed to be doing this full time now. So the kids at school I do the errands or puppy apts. That way when they are home it’s my time with JP and them!
Those dogs walk so well on lead, we are having trouble with our dog who is 3 years old, he pulls so bad, we are trying heel work, we use a slip collar, we did have an harness with front and top lead clip but this just made him worse xx

Hey! Enjoying your channel. Just wanted to say most harnesses are not great for large dogs that like to pull. There are restrictions around their shoulders that make it difficult for the dog to walk normally. Over time they can cause possible dislocations of the shoulder and muscle strain/pain. I’m sure purely positive folks are giving you a hard time about the prong collars, but if it isn’t broken don’t fix it. If used correctly prong collars are a great tool! Good luck 🍀

No not so far. I’ll keep you posted when they have shorter summer cuts.
I would also wonder about that. These harnesses look to ride pretty low and tight around the dogs’ shoulders/armpits. I think front clip harnesses are a fabulous, gentle tool, but I would not purchase this one…. There are many other, better (imho) choices out there! 🐾🐾

Shock collars and prongs should be banned, you shouldn't have to inflict discomfort on an animal to make it do what you want it to. I walk around 20 dogs a day, atleast 5 at one time, all sizes, breeds and energies and not 1 has a prong or shock collar so.......

Well it does look as though your dogs are well trained those harness and prong collars are all training tools. The goal for those should be to not have to use them eventually. Those harness aren’t good for growing puppies as if they pull it can really restrict them and is not good for growing joints.

You learned something new? You didn't know this before? Are you kidding me??? You did not know that putting a collar with prongs around the neck of any living thing is a sheety thing to do? Well, that goes about right with you not realizing that dogs are not puppy factories for you to make money off of...nice house or not nice, this is a garbage thing to do.
