Wow! Thank you. I have been working on these things for years and have struggled to understand this simple process. Your video taught me more in 2 minutes than years of reading the damn manuals and other videos. Thanks a million. Well done sir.
A Motorcycle Nut, I read some of your replies and of course watched the video. Very good, and most importantly; CORRECT information. Thank You. I love the XR200R engine, for some reason I love the design, how compact, how simple, and how peppy the cute little engine is. Now, if I could just adapt fuel injection to it...
Great video! I have seen others post videos adjusting the chain while the engine is running. -A great way to destroy it. Yours is clear and easy to understand. TDC on the firing stroke to slacken the chain for adjustment. Thanks!!
You explained this perfectly. I’m glad you took the cover off so we could see what is happening. I watched some seriously crap vids before I found you. I hope my Chinese clone has that little rubber boot :) Thanks
The cam tensioner is on a spring that can stick all you are doing is allowing the tensioner to do what it was designed to do. You aren't adjusting a thing just freeing a Honda flaw in an otherwise great motor.
a bit unclear to me still. By pushing the screwdriver down a few times is what sort of resets it? You do not have to open up the case, as you said, to see it? So line up top by matching the line, then push with screwdriver a bit? thanks
Thanks a lot for this video, had no idea the function of that rubber thing. Mine is a Honda tlr200 and from this screws some oil is coming up ( not a lot but it's clearly some oil vapor is sticking the area around the rubber tap ) Could you please give me some advice on that? Thanks a lot in advance. Love the review.
+Eduard Casellas The 14mm bolt has an o-ring on it. If you unscrew it completely you can replace the o-ring and it should stop leaking, It can also leak from the 6mm plug. it has an aluminum crush washer that might need to be replaced.
+Eduard Casellas Only do this with the engine turned off. If the timing chain is really loose or stretched it could jump a tooth on the sprockets and make a mess out of your engine. Eat valves and stop running and we don't really want to go there!!!!!
+A Motorcycle Nut really cool answers, both of them. Thanks a lot. Check my Chanel if you want to see my Honda in action hehe just got one video anyways. If you hear something wrong I will truly appreciate your opinion. Thanks again. Keep posting as it is really helpful for us.
so you did not adjust anything just push it down. is there a screw inside to turn to adjust and which way do you turn it to take up slack in the chain. Thanks
The adjustment is spring loaded. The clamping mechanism sticks sometimes. I'm just pushing on the adjusting rod to make sure that it is not sticking. The spring inside sets it to the right tension.
Jet needle set wrong. Wrong float level. Air leak somewhere. Dirty or old air filter. Bad spark plug cap. Plugged muffler. There are a couple of things for you to check. Read your spark plug after you run it to figure out what's going on.
That might be a way to do it when every thing in the engine is new. But ask your self this question. What is going to happen if all the parts are a bit worn and you loosen the Cam chain with the engine running and the timing chain skips a tooth or two? I'll take the safe way on an old bike.
Hi. Can I have your Facebook or email? I would like you too see some photos of the cam chain of my HONDA TLR 200. I don't see the marks. And I can not move anything. Thanks a lot

Thanks for your video, this is great. I've had this bike on the shelf for awhile. I suspect my cam chain may have slipped on my first ride. Does this sound sound like a slipped cam chain to your or perhaps something else? I'm not terribly handy with these and would love your input. Thank you. ruclips.net/video/IOm-WkMdVhE/видео.html

It's not TDC though, it's a bit before TDC at the point where the ignition fires

Thanks for the video exactly what I needed. Direct and to the point. Nice and short AMEN!
Glad it was helpful!
This is excellent content. This is how you make an instructional video. Thank you!
hwo do you adjust it i just saw you poke it a couple times with a screw driver.
More people need to see this video and not D-rays. He shows to do it while it's running. This is why I subscribed to you and not him
My 1988 Honda 125 nx has lot of valve chatter just adjust the valves any ideas?
Timing chain might be loose

The answer is always in the comments. Thank you
Ha your the F N man bro! This plus rocker arm adjustment and she's all gravy baby.
One of the easiest & simple smart design engine ever !
It sure is!
a bit unclear to me still. By pushing the screwdriver down a few times is what sort of resets it? You do not have to open up the case, as you said, to see it? So line up top by matching the line, then push with screwdriver a bit? thanks
That is correct. Pushing with the screw driver just makes sure that the locking mechanism released and set the proper tension.
any idea how on a 85 suzuki lt230ge shaft quadrunner?
Isn’t the rod threaded? Could you insert a bolt that first and pull up on it if it’s extra loose

Nice demonstration! Thank you

alright just what iv been looking for. thanks have a awsome day
Thank you for the informative video. Appreciated
Can be done with the engine turned off? No need to turn on whilst adjusting the chain?
Thank you.

Will this work for a 83 Honda cm200t? I’m hearing either valves or a cam issue
Thanks you so much bro just earned a sub ! will do it on my Honda xl 125 rc 1984
damn man great video and advice in comments.... you just made my atc increase in value... i dnt wanna sell it know, haha.. sub right here!!!!
Great video, learned a trick today, thanks.
Glad to help
this can be used for the CT 125 I have a 1981 CT 125 ( soon to be cafe racer) and this helped alot thanks
Hello friend, I know this is an old comment, but you are the first person on earth that Ive found who also owns an 81 CT125. Enjoy it!
What is the adjustment measurement/tension amount?
so you did not adjust anything just push it down. is there a screw inside to turn to adjust and which way do you turn it to take up slack in the chain. Thanks
The adjustment is spring loaded. The clamping mechanism sticks sometimes. I'm just pushing on the adjusting rod to make sure that it is not sticking. The spring inside sets it to the right tension.
Very helpful, thanks !!!
Hey can you make a video on how to wire it.
The manual says to loosen the bolt while it's running then tighten. Thanks
If the timing chain skips a tooth while its running you will have bigger problems. Don't do it.
my xr200 will start and idle fine, but past a quarter throttle its just boggy. carb is clean. any ideas?
Jet needle set wrong. Wrong float level. Air leak somewhere. Dirty or old air filter. Bad spark plug cap. Plugged muffler. There are a couple of things for you to check. Read your spark plug after you run it to figure out what's going on.
Why does this have to be done on dead center fire stroke? What would happen if I didn't do it dead center fire stroke?
It doesn't have to be exactly on TDC, but at that position I know the cam is not trying to open the valves.
@@Amotorcyclenut weird because the oem Honda repair manual states to have engine idling and loosen the larger nut

Thanks for this dude now i know🙄
why my xr200 first start heavy stroller?
I don't understand your question.

Wow, that's hammering pretty good. It might be more than a timing chain slap. Better tighten the valves too. Check the Oil also.
@@Amotorcyclenut Thank you I appreciate it!
