Anfield and The Kop a few moments after David Fairclough made it 3-1 during the 2nd leg of the European Cup Quarter Final between Liverpool and St Etienne at Anfield.
When football was not all about money.
The working class want their game back, AMF
Islam political correctness
Peter Griffiths the Kop is still amazing for atmosphere but imagine safe standing
@@zaco3392 is it illegal to stand?
SxRG- it’s not illegal however because of what happened at Hillsborough it’s harder to have a safe standing stand now but if the kop was stood up now it would be twice as loud
@@thomashill6633 all my life I was standing while watching my local club can't imagine watching football at a stadium seating:/
Greatest game I have seen at Anfield in 53 years following Liverpool. After Fairclough scored in the 84th minute the last six minutes are a blur as the whole ground simply shook with the noise. I still remember, my feet not even touching the ground as we all sang "We shall not be moved" in the most unbelievable and incredible atmosphere. Every Liverpool fan who was present on March 16th 1977 will remember that game for the rest of their lives ! My dad later replayed Elton Welsby's Radio City commentary for me and it is simply the stuff of legends. Davie Fairclough has surely put Liverpool into the semi-final.Just look at these scenes ! Kennedy who got the second, puts it through for Fairclough the substitute and super sub takes it on and shoots it low under Curkovic ! Its 3-1 oh Liverpool don't lose your heads now !! "Simply fantastic !!
Ervine Okuboh was it tough back then in liverpool, too?you know
Such a great account, read it through with a tear running down my face, wish I'd been alive to witness it!
I was outside without ticket and went in at Anfield Rd end when they opened gates to let people out just before Fairclough scored wow !!!!
My grandad was there bye himself he was 12 at the back of the kop
What about last nights game the?n? Barca European come back?
The standing spion kop was probably the most incredible sight in football back then. Gutted I was never there to witness it
Gutted is a understatement
This is the greatest atmosphere football has ever experienced, undoubtedly. To be that loud without the microphones at the side of the pitches like today is absolutely insane.
damn, you can feel the stands crumbling on the players, incredible atmosphere
This isn't jst chanting its jst straight bulling the opponents with such noise
The whole ground felt like it was moving up and down. Been to thousands of football games, never see an atmosphere like that. It spoils you though so that everything now feels quiet, sterilised and watered down.
Modern football is anti-fan. The authority view them as hooligans. Drinking culture is gone from football. A great atmosphere needs supporters who know how to have a good time. Real fans are in the pubs. Standing terrace have to come back and kick-off schedules must allow fans to prepare for games. The TV deals fucked up English football culture. Kick-off at 12:45pm on Saturday? What a bloody joke.
+thucydides Neo Your living in the past mate.. just think about how violent a football stadium used to be.
Germany has perfected the art of safe standing and if they can do it so can we but the authorities don't want it and the Clubs want the extra $$$$$$$$$$$$ from seating. Sod giving the fans a choice circa 2016.....what do they think it is the 1970's ? :)
Contributing greatly to the atmosphere were 6,000 Saint Etienne fans. Those of us who were there will never forget 🎶Allez Les Verts🎶 ringing out that night.
I dont normally get goosebumps but this got me. Those were the days. I hope the nurse saved the guy laid out on the pitch side at the end of the clip.
it's interesting that Alex Ferguson was at this match at the time he was a young manager at St. Mirren. He said at the time he couldn't believe the atmosphere and that's when he decided he wanted to manage in England. He used to be a big admirer of Liverpool
Aah ! Liverpool..Great Great club and Anfield..fantastic fans. La bise from Ardèche, fan St Etienne.
There must have been around 30,000 on the Kop that night. Davey Fairclough was an old mate of mine from the area where we lived. Did you realise you'd become an Anfield legend when you scored that goal, Davey? I do miss the good old days! Is it any wonder now that the old Kop has gone the atmosphere could never be the same except for important matches?
I hope you're here to see our modern era my friend, things are looking as good now as they only have back in this time, really. This is Liverpool. I'm a young man from California and Liverpool has always been my love, it's in my heart. I truly hope you've gotten to witness these last few years for our team, we are returning to our glory. YNWA
@@elifields275 Agree with this. Was at this game (17 at the time), but also attended the recent Man City game. Anfield can still rock as much now as it did then.
@@johnholmes8178 I saw David Fairclough today in a cafe. He had a limp and is clearly showing signs of age ( aren't' we all?!). He left his phone on the table when he got up to go and someone reminded him. Rochetau is from very near to where my wife grew up in South West France and she has seen him on the beach. He has moved back there in recent years and is seen around. He is a staunch socialist too- he would have fitted in well with the city of Liverpool.
Anfield when it's in full voice cannot be competed with.. Liverpool's stadium capacity is 45,000-48,000 yet is louder than the 60,000 stadiums in the prem.. Old Trafford, Emirates, White Hart Lane. Stoke City and Newcastle have fantastic home support as well
i was there with me dad, two big reds, he came an took me out of school at dinnertime, the note said,'' were going to the match''. got there about 3.00pm anfield was gridlocked. They brought thousands in green, still got a st etienne hat. we got in about 5.30 an the place rocked all night.brilliant game, even more, the ending, with the mad goal, was 11 years old then, me an me dad still talk an buzz off that night. St.Helens LFCYNWA96
That is when the kop was at its peak its ashame we will never see anfield like this again by far the most intimidating ground in Europe back then
It stll is mate....ask Juve olympakos United Real Barca Chelsea arsenal city..all great atmospheres on european night this century and liverpool went through thanks to the power of Anfield.
telephonic just fucked city then haven't we
We are winning it mate....It feels like 2005 again.
telephonic I cri :(, we deserved it so much this season
how about now ??
The greatest night of my life in the kop. There must have been 30,000 in there with all the fans jumping the turnstiles. We stayed behind for half an hour after the game it was incredible
"the whole stand shaking here" i felt it too, what a sight to behold. I can imagine if anfield still had these kind of atmosphere or crowd!!!
The only place to be back in the day....Amazing atmosphere.....
I've had a fair share of games at full house Red Star Belgrade FC (100000 capacity before the bloody seats were put in) stadium. Atmosphere at quite a few of those games was absolutely unbelievable. However, nothing compares to this game. I remember it well even though I was 14 when I watched it on TV, I think some of the goosebumps are still visible on my arms. The best noise ever!
WE SHALL NOT WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED, WE SHALL NOT WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED, 'CAUSE WE ARE STANDARD BOYS WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED
What am atmosphere .described magnificently by the great Gerald sinstadt ...the whole stand shaking here at Anfield ! We shall not be moved !!!!!
Fuck it!!! Nowadays anfield is shit!!! Klopp please brings back an atmosphere like this
*Coughs Dortmund
Dennis The worm James Moreton the atmosphere has turned to shit
WE ARE BACK TO CHAMPION LEAGUE!!!
Dennis The worm there were 26000 in the kop that night and I am proud to say I was one of them

The Spion Kop and Anfield at its greatest
Just how boring modern football is nowadays...
FutureIsNow the football is more exciting, the atmosphere is less exciting
wot a nite, i was 14 yrs old, the atmosphere was amazing, it blew me away, Y.N.W.A.
It’s amazing when you watch this and now we are in times of Covid and we watch games played in empty stadiums with artificial fan noise. So sad

and its official... this generation now has their st. etienne. the whole of the grounds was unreal vs barcelona.. old timers coming up saying this was better than st. etienne. never heard them even come close to saying that
It's not just about the Kop these days though, the whole ground needs to be up for it to create a cracking atmosphere. But that can still happen when it's called for. I'm sure the Anfield regulars of today appreciate that they have a lot to live up to.
I was there age 12 , will never forget this was the cusp of our European pedigree, I'll never forget how loud it was
The game has changed so much now.. big business has taken it over stamping their ugly brand logos all over the field, jerseys, the stands, the stadium itself, they've even gone as far as even renaming stadiums making them sound like something you'd buy at a mall. What a shame. Even the tolerance of the players has gone down, i can pinpoint a few moments in this clip where a player today would've gotten booked for. I think THIS is what football should look/play like, then maybe this type of atmosphere would come back.
we shall not be moved,it looks like happy days are here again
+Quintin sumner ......Odds of 1/5....ON !!!!! to Win the League and they , unbelievably, blew it !
Isleofskye here we go again
@@SalmonVFX Yeah here we go again, European Champions 6 times, World Club Cup champions, Soon to be League Champions 19 times.

I am a lfc-fan since I was a little boy from former DDR. It sent shivers down my spine when I saw the spot. Amazing unique English atmosphere!! It was a glorious time, wasn't it? I always put my "KOP" badge with pleasure. YNWA! Shit German soccer!!!!
Match volé par Mr corver le même qui nous a volé la demie de Séville en 1982
St Etienne mérite de passer mr cover a bien aidé Liverpool en oubliant un penalty de clémence sur Rocheteau
What i would have given to be there that night, unfortunately i wasn't born. My dad was there and he tells me stories of the great days such as when we beat everton 3-0 at goodison when sandy brown put it in his own net. He has no idea how lucky he was to witness such great times but they have gone. Football is a greedy game now, theres no hunger anymore.
'we shall not be moved' - G. Gillet & T. Hicks
hopefully we're about to start a new era under new owners... anyway, top class video YNWA to all Liverpool fans
Best atmosphere in Europe and I am talking about facts
é inacreditável essa atmosfera
WE,VE CONQUERED ALL OF EUROPE WERE NEVER GONNA STOP FROM APRIS DOWN TO TURKEY WE,VE WON THE FUCKING LOT BOB PAISLEY AND BILL SHANKLY THE FIELDS OF ANFIELD WE ARE THE LOYAL SUPPORTERS AND WE COME FROM LIVERPOOL ALLEZ ALLEZ ALLEZ ALLEZ 7 TIMES CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE

Now THAT is an atmosphere. Bring back safe standing.
wtf nothing was safe about standings
@@ciaranmck4469 sure there was. Works fine in Europe, incidents only occur due to overcrowding
@@calumcooke2040 and that happens all the time still mate unless we add about more entrances to each stand why would you theres so space for it unless you have to rebuild the entire stand
You can´t bring back something that there wasn´t in the first place. We can introduce safe-standing. But there is no way we can bring back the terraces of old, becuase there was nothing safe about them (as evidenced by the guy unconscious at the end there)
Me dad n me, aged 12, regular Anny Rd Enders, there, ive still got a st etienne cap swapped outside
"And he admired them, and Liverpool as an institution. As St Mirren manager in 1977, Ferguson had enticed Liverpool to Love Street for the club's centenary. Ferguson had been to Anfield for the European Cup quarter-final win over St Etienne when super sub David Fairclough scored a late winner that is still cherished.
Five days later Ferguson said of Anfield in his St Mirren programme notes: 'I didn't walk away from the ground after the game, I floated out. I had been caught up in the most exciting football atmosphere I have ever experienced.'
I don’t think Words could describe how it’d feel to play in that atmosphere
Quem não se arrepiar com essa atmosfera está morto por dentro. Ver o povão em êxtase... o futebol é mágico, e nessa época devia ser algo surreal. Vivaaa ⚽️
If I could have been to only one game, it would have been this one. From 1:00, it is pure madness…
its not hard to be heard in youll never walk alone its an easy song to sing over as it high points of high an low and not once when it was in voice did you sing over it
I remember their keeper saying he was screaming at his players but they never heard him I was there I heard the noise it was incredible
When the kop was the real deal
What is the goal of those yellow letters on black background in alphabetic order on the side of the pitch, near the stand?
To display the half-time fixtures on Saturday afternoons. In those days, all matches kicked off at 3pm.
Imagine being the guy who started that one off 😁
when it was just scousers

Inter 65,muncheglabach 73,Bruges 76,st etienne 77,munchengladbach 78,auxxere 92,Barcelona 01,Roma,02,Olympicakos 05,Chelsea,05,Chelsea 07,arsenal 08,and now Dortmund 16
Add man city '18 and Roma '18 to that list. City was my favourite though from last year that was incredible
a g i was there and can say i added to that atmosphere. Started a lot of chants near the kop
Barcelona 19
incredible! when you see that, you want to be a part of the public !
The football is dead now ; definitely !!!
The game played by real men for real men! The power of the working man!!
Fantastici
can't imagine that anywhere ever was a better atmosphere than in the kop those days...
it's sad that english support is going down just because of seats!
don't you stand during the matches anymore? 'cause they put in those seats in my hometown too, but we don't care at all and stand and shout for 90', or are you going to be locked out for standing??
woah!!...right up there with chelsea semi final 2005
i was there aged 15 . a magical night that will live in my memory forever. a atmosphere that will never be repeated at any ground around the world again
but St Etienne fans would put koppites to shame now. in fact most fans in Europe would. R.I.P. English support- sad but true Fuck modern football
I saw a joey eats frog legs banner @1:25 brilliant. Great Vid!
I was there. Right in the middle of the Kop. : )
Mais quel est l'intérêt de cette video ? ? ? Pas de buts, pas d'action significative !
Nothing surprizing really. IT's all about mutual respect. Liverpool experts rate this game as the club's most intense ever in its European history, outshining even 2005's win over Milan. I suspect the crowd intensity itself made it special, too. Today's all seaters are no match for this.
Fuck me what a incredible atmosphere
United must be so jealous of this!
I think not just united .
the only place where you can find this kind of atmosphere today is argentina or brazil
I was at this game in the Kemlyn. Something weird happened and the shutters were still down nearing KO, so some guys ripped them up and everyone piled in. We couldn't sit in our seats and we ended up on the wall. Before Fairclough scored people were already encroaching on the pitch and afterwords they were taking pieces of the turf. We returned our tickets for a refund but got invited to the club instead for a one to one tour. I got to pose with the EC and LC. I was 12. Amazing night.
Goose fucking bumps! We Are Liverpool! Poetry In Motion ❤
1:35 Nurse performing cpr on a fan ☹ hope he was ok i remember 2 fans sadly passed away that night i was at that match was a lot thinner too done a double click and got in free gratis greatest atmosphere ever
when football was still a working class game, pre-season ticket and all-seater stadiums, you got a home strip for Xmas, your mam knitted a hat and scarf and that was it.
i was in the paddock that night never forget the faces on the french fans when they heard the kop
this was some game,my dad was at this match, that was when football was football,no money grabbing, unloyal pre madonnas back then, then capitalism kicked in,and the country went money mad, stab you in the back for a xtra penny, fuck modern and wot it stands for
Game started, was in the kop, centre mid way up. End of the game, by the paddock, a third of the way down. I don't think my feet touched the floor. Notice the word AGAIN wasn't sang. Great days for a then 16 year old.
I was at that game when i was 11years old , i was at the anfield road end becouse i was just a boy , the kop looked awsome from there for that game. I will never forget that match.
I just wanna travel back in time to witness this just so loud i love it YNWA
Damn! I wonder what the players must have felt like playing in that kind of atmosphere.
Never seen an atmosphere like that
Against Modern Football!
from a chelsea fan, i actually feel lie crying because the atmosphere in england was the best but now... i remember besiktas getting the world record of loudest fans of 132 decibel and liverpool held the record before of 130dB in 2005 but everyone knows the english atmosphere has gone shit
ELIT ESC and all this because of greedy players and club owners
@boringlyawesum your probably right because english atmosphere is not so good as before
There is no better song .
Swagger !
so sad Anfield has died down recently, I go every game and its sadly full of tourists
A parochial view. It is actually the so-called 'day-trippers' who make the noise. Also, they stay right to the final whistle, unlike the local scousers, who seem more concerned about beating the post-match traffic and vacate their seats 10 mins before the end.
@@johnholmes8178 trust me the day trippers make no noise, they either sit on FaceTime and record the game or just video it. Also when people leave what does that matter? No one leaves 10 mins early 90 mins on the dot people exit
@@HarryStricko Not true. Most of the fans who sit near me are scousers. And their seats are empty long before the end. While I've had some of the tourists tell me that, when they've tried to start the singing, they get told to shut-up by the locals. Too many superannuated scousers are destroying the atmosphere.
I was on the Kop that night. I was only a kid at the time and I used to perch on the left hand side metal upright pillar (as you look at the Kop) at every game. Very uncomfortable to be 10 foot off the ground, have your feet stuck at a 45 degree angle and to feel the need to hang on as though your life depended on it for a couple of hours.
@Jambostan very good support for standard at Goodison and Anfield in 08,good team too very unlucky vs Liverpool
Absolutely ..Awesome deafening ! English football stadiums wont EVER hear /see anything like this again.YNWA
I got locked out that night, i had to go home & listen to it on the radio, i went to the semi against fc zurich but the game was already won,the atmosphere wasnt as good according to me mates who got in against st etienne
We won the league,we won the cup,we been in Europe too.Liverpool till i die even after
