Enjoying Big Mess and was very excited with the Shellac announcement this week. Need to look into Corridor, that one is new to me.

There's a track on the forthcoming Shellac album called How I Wrote How I Wrote Elastic Man, that was enough for me to put in a preorder. Now I'm off to investigate the new Craig Wedren, thanks for letting us know about it!

Hoping Shellac can break the (excluding "The Futurist") good-followed-by-not-quite-so-good album pattern they seem to have defined for themselves...love Action Park, Hurts and Dude, not so into Terraform and Greyhound. Maybe that's just me! Cheers, D

I hadn't noticed the pattern but you're right, fingers crossed it's a good one this time! I've listened to a few tracks from Craig Wedren's album, sounds really good apart from the autotune. Autotune is like nails down a blackboard for me, it can make otherwise great tunes unlistenable. At least it's not all over it like some Bob Mould tunes.

oh man! I didn't know arcwelder was back! Nice! I have been enjoying Idles song "Dancer" quite a bit recently but haven't checked out the full album yet. Also, I have the new JAMC vinyl on the way, heard a few good songs off of it so far!

Love your work. Any chance you can fix the flickering logo on the monitor? Cheers

I'll have you know that I worked hard on that flicker! It's a feature, not a bug. D

Craig Wedren -> Hyperpop? Now that sounds like a must listen! These Immortal Souls is new to me! Why are there always these interesting side-projects from stellar bands that I've somehow missed? It's all too much/Guess I'm useless. But I do own those two Curve albums + Pubic Fruit (...), so the box-set seems mostly superfluous for me. Still great it exists, as Curve were (for me anyway) something special. Nice also, to see a new Sparklehorse release.

Struggling to describe the new Craig Wedren actually...modern studio pop, not terribly guitar heavy, plenty of that twisted Shudder structural stuff, a smidge of autotune here and there. It does work, honest!
Yeah, the Curve box is great if you're missing one or other of the albums or EP collections, or if you're new to them altogether. Nice to have everything in a tidy little package, either way. Cheers, D

@@discellany I've watched an interview with Craig Wedren explaining what he and Nathan Larson were trying to achieve with Pony Express Record: going to the absolute limit of what a "popular guitar record" could be (atonal riffing / unusual song structures) in the grunge era. As well as looking deliberately non-macho (to say the least). Fascinating album.
Well, Pubic Fruit doesn't cover every Curve EP, so I guess the box-set certainly is welcome. Especially if it concentrates on their initial, and probably most noteworthy, run!

The Unit Ama ain't on WrongSpeed, they're on Gringo, but it ain't no biggie. I was watching this thinking, has he checked out Objections? So i was delighted they got a mention. That LP is gonna tear it up

You're right, yes. Always get those two labels mixed up...pretty similar ethos/sound/roster in my head. Really excited for that Objections LP. Cheers, D

I saw Objections live last month (Leeds band in Leeds innit) supporting Gnoomes in Wharf Chambers, a tiny, excellent, socialist-run collective venue here. Most of the local crowd were there for them (I felt bad for Gnoomes TBH), but I dunno. YMMV obviously, and I'm far less mathy post punk than you, so it's probably me. They were very good at the thing they did - it's a perfectly good one song with the math bit dialled up or down a bit - the politics are impeccable, but boy do I prefer Bilge Pump by a mile. Ho hum.

Mary Timony lost her spark, which is sad to hear. Speaking of Polvo related stuff, did you ever check out Black Taj?
The new Shellac would be interesting🌟

Did you hear the new Whitelands Album?
    Very cool shoegaze revival stuff

    • @discellany
      @discellany  5 месяцев назад

Just gave it a listen...pretty cool. I have a bit of a problem with newer shoegaze stuff, in that I'm completely primed for how it's going to sound before I even press "play". It feels like the whole genre has been so heavily codified and sketched-out that there's not as much room for surprise. I did get a bit of that here, but I think that's my problem (my age!) rather than anything reflective of what they're doing. Think I preferred the tracks where they "upped" things a bit..."How It Feels" and "Chosen Light" both stand out...and didn't slide into a languid Slowdive thing. I'll listen a bit more! Cheers, D
