Rather get a 4-Bay supermicro than this abomination, can buy it for half the price and is way better supported since its enterprise kit, incl. ECC memory. What a joke.
Every time i see one of these nas videos i yet again just dont understand why people would buy these over building their own nas for half the cose with better specs....most of these nas units come unpopulated anyway so pretty much anyone buying one has to be at least somewhat tech savy to get them set up correctly.
Thanks Don! to me the zima board was clever zima blade though still kinda clever (just installed proxmox on one) is at the border to "underwhelming" and since ZimaCube/ZimaOS there is not much going on with casa OS as far as i can tell this leaves a taste of disappointment and makes me question icewhales priority list and hardly dependable
$1,100... no ECC memory for only six 3.5 HDDs... lmao gtfo with that nonsense /review lol Don't know what is wrong with the NAS industry to charge this much for a NAS that does not even care enough about your data to include ECC memory. Have fun one day when the RAM starts to go bad a starts flipping bits and the middle of your mp3s start skipping and half way through video files and get corrupt video. You have not had any problems? It takes 1 time and you will learn this lesson. It is not a fun experience.
This thing are so overpriced that Synology starting to looks like great deal. Synology DS1821+ with E10G18 10g card are cost 1150$, but you get solid firmware that works, worldwide support, ECC support, 8 bays hdd and two m.2.
interesting design. hope ur treatments are going well Don.....
what's wrong with novaspirit don if you dont mind me asking? i rarely watch them except for the products i care about. tia!
@@OnioNode cancer. announced a few months back.....
@@longlost8424 aww! hope don gets well soon!
$1100 seems a tad pricey for a 1.3GHz laptop CPU, proprietary motherboard and no ECC.
1.3Ghz does not include the boost clock what the processor usually running at
But yes this thing is overpriced
Yeah I think they overestimated the value compared to existing products. Thanks for reviewing it and hope you are doing well.
Second comment on the overpriced product

cha ching:$1,099.00 USD No Sale
Thanks Don.
That CPU cooler is a tragedy, not even the "upgrade" moves anything out of the case.
Thanks Don!

Interesting.Great show THX.
Auto power on option isn't in the bios it is a jumper on the motherboard. Check icewhales guidance on it if stuck.
Thanks!

Good point. It's expensive and without ECC it's just a toy or a NAS for starters that won't go with synology/qnap.
Why would anyone buy this?
