I'm just starting to fix up my Silverball Mania machine. Had it for 20 years, but left it in an unheated garage for the last 10. It had a bad power cable, bad battery and such on the one board, and after 6 bright flashes on LED it stays on dimly. Looking forward to the rest of this series to hopefully get solutions to all the problems I might encounter. Thanks for taking the time to provide inspiration for a guy that wants to try and fix his machine, instead of letting it sit abandoned in a dusty shop broken.
6 flashes would probably mean everything's working but the solenoid power isn't there (blown fuse maybe).... We just did a silverball mania a couple weeks ago, great game!
Honestly, I judge how fun an old pinball machine is by its wear. If it's worn, it was played a lot, and people always play the good games. And it seems to me that those old Bally's get good and worn.
I've had some Williams games where the cabinets were destroyed but I don't think I've ever had one with heavy playfield wear, they probably did the playfield paint a little different or something :) I'm working on a black Knight right now and it's in great shape!
You guys were throwing off Bally games from the past, right off the top of my head I was just thinking about Harlem Globetrotters. That was a great game to play . During that time I didn't really like Stern pinball machines too much but I think I remember playing meteor that was the only game from Stern at that time that I liked. The later Stern games kicked ass! from that point on. I always remember when I played pinball machines I always loved a bunch of drop targets. The more drop targets a game had the more I liked it. Good video waiting for the next one. 👍
Harlem Globetrotters is a great game, but again I think they're all pretty cool, lol I've had several Meteors you're right it's very fun, the drop targets are cool!
I was a teenager in the '70s, and I loved Bally machines. I never really liked Williams; it seemed like every Williams table I played had weak flippers. And yeah, Eight Ball was one of the best machines ever made!
Paragon,cap fantastic,xenon,space invaders ,hotdoggin',fireball , silverballmania,flash gordon,centaur,skateball,and more . Its pinball art in pure state
Up and running, and restoration are definitely separate things. This game is crying out for a playfield swap and a cabinet repaint. Maybe when those become an option for your client in the future you will get to do a video on that. For now it's a great learning experience for your audience to watch you go through and bring this classic back to life.
I'm not really interested in doing restorations and I sure wouldn't do video of it :) Everybody is very criticial of things like that, it would be useless to record, you'd just be setting yourself up for every person who's ever held a paintbrush to tell you you're doing it wrong.
My former boss has one of these in his house, unfortunately it doesn't work , am glad to see this one here, patina is the word you were looking for,,the way you go threw these is really good, I was able to understand how this stuff works and how to change things out that don't work, makes it enjoyable to watch, Thanks, Liked,
Thanks Guy we appreciate it, yes this is a really fun game, I always heard it was't that great but when I first got to play one it seemed pretty cool to me! We're bringing in a real KISS fan to play this one later on in the series, see you then!
I think this series will be a long one. Great to hear Joe speak in a video. Bally's 70s backglass were the best. Eight ball, Playboy, and Strikes and Spares just cool glasses. Can not wait to see the series, Good luck on this one Ronnie. Thanks for filming.
Man we figured out eventually that the guy who did this backglass is the same dude who did Strikes and Spares! Hard to beat it, some of the most iconic art ever!
I've seen worse. There were around 17 thousand built, and most of them were played hard and put away wet. To this day, they're still so popular that even a slightly ratty one can sell for $1k-$2k. At least that battery hasn't leaked much. Maybe at some point in the past, somebody had the sense to replace it. (It's one way to explain the lack of corrosion.) I have a suspicion that the primary issue is in the power board, but I know how thorough you are. I'm looking forward to this one. 👌😊
Yup; we have one here in our shop right now, we have so many cool games we're working on you're not even going to believe it. You're g oing to say, I don't believe that, and then I'm going to say, well buddy you better believe it. You better believeit. youbetterbelieveit
I was more into Motorhead and Hawkwind myself back in the day :) I do have some kiss vinyl in the collection though, Great video, I've never owned a kiss machine, not too many around in Scotland but I do love to see your methodology on these appraisals and repairs - wonderful stuff thanks and I can't wait to see where this goes in the next one. take care
Yeah that Future Spa was awesome :) I'm a sucker for any of the old ones, I like 'em all. I had a Williams Contact which is a pretty early one and really enjoyed it... also "flash" was always fun, etc. I honestly don't even know if there's an early Solid State that I don't like.
@@LyonsArcade I think the early games were more fun. Newer games are good, don't get me wrong, but they same to focus more on electronic tricks. There was just something special about those early games, and the later EM's.
I was told by BGRestro that the peeling at the bottom of the backglass is from spraying cleaning on the glass to clean it. The cleaner then will run down and wick up the backside making it peel. Use a cloth and spray your cleaner on it and wipe the glass. I love all the early S/S machines I don't care who made it. But I do like Williams a little better.
After listening to you talk about the different pinball games it got me to thinking and I was wondering just how many different pinball machines were made. Also is there a list somewhere of them.
Ron, Enjoy watching your videos, you gave me enough courage to try some play field touch ups. Actually my wife because I can do the electronics but I'm not any good at art work. We heeded your warnings and used acrylics but what type of clear do you cover the acrylic with?
so many pinball games you have done that I remember playing as a kid....EMs and and solid state alike. Learned on EMs. Still want a few, but right now is NOT the time to get one...YIKES people are trying to payoff their overpriced homes...LOL
There is no AC at the Arcade and Pinball Museum in Seligenstadt Germany. The machines are all on free play, but I keep saying we need a booth where you drop in a quarter and get AC for a minute muahahahaha!
No it was 1979, they started designing it in 78 but it didn't come out until 1979. So you're wrong, and you're also wrong about me being wrong. I need two apologies.
Came out in '79....One of the best pinball games and one of the best Rock and roll bands! KISS!
They did a great job on it! Thanks for watching..

Hi Ronnie and Joe. *Sighs* Big Kiss fan. They were before my time but I love their music
You wanted the best ????!!!!! YOU GOT THE BEST!!!! lol We're doing KISS all the next couple weeks, DEAL WITH IT!!! lol
I have one at home. Replaced the worn play field with a new one, myself, about 20 years ago.

Don't have a favourite between Bally and Williams, but I did love Future Spa which I think was 1979 Bally release. It was a bit crazy and risque. 🙂

That makes sense, I never thought about that....
Great job! Looking forward to seeing more of this. I just bought a $640 pressure washer through your amazon usa link. I hope that helps you some :-)
Thank you Chad, we appreciate that!
I’m looking forward to seeing this series of videos. I would love to have an old pinball machine
Thanks for watching Bill!
That pinball machine has been played to the bone... 😁😁😁
They've had a lot of fun with this one, they rocked and rolled all night long
Well done Ron!!
Can we expect a baby Kiss pinball in the future? (If it's knocked up?) LOL. OK that made me laugh pretty good, thanks for leaving that in!
lol
"YOU WANTED THE BEST!!!!! YOU GOT THE BEST!!!! THE HOTTEST PINBALL/ARCADE REPAIR GROUP IN THE WORLD!"
hahaha no, that would be Todd Tuckey!
Hottest band in the world at the time they still are to me rock n roll. Such a great game. Thanks for sharing guys.
Thanks Mac Customs we appreciate you watching man!
Have one replaced the playfield takes alot of time, my backglass is signed by 3 members 🤘🤘
Very cool man!
YOU WANTED THE BEST, YOU GOT THE BEST, THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD.......KISSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
here they come!
After listening to you talk about the different pinball games it got me to thinking and I was wondering just how many different pinball machines were made. Also is there a list somewhere of them.
There is Tony, if you go to www.IPDB.org they have lists of every game ever made, you can search by company, etc. too
Forgot some 'big one's'. Oh yeah Dolly Parton! I see what you did there. :)
She'd laugh
Love Harlem Globetrotters as well
I think the word your looking for when talking about the look of old cars is “patina”
That would describe it, thanks!
jup thats the word
There's a good one of these going for sale cheap on ebay at the moment!
A real classic!
Legendary!

We just use clearcoat spraypaint.... there's a link to some on our website, www.LyonsArcade.com .
@@LyonsArcade What I was looking for was satin acrylic, got that from your Website. Amazon has a good price. Thanks!
As Scooby would say “That’s ruff!”
Good 'ol Scoob
Looking forward to this one. Nice teamwork
Thanks Bob, we appreciate you watching!
EVERYONE wanted to play the KISS machine at the time. People would put their coins on the machine and wait.
I'll bet it was the hottest thing out that year! Thanks for watching as always!
Love it! Looking forward to this series!
Thanks Jason!
Harlem Globe Trotters? Out of all the early Bally SS, I like that one best.
Williams was like Hit'n'miss. Some were awesome, some were meh.
Uh Oh, we got a Rogue Opinion here, quick somebody put him in time-out! LOL
awesome !...cheers.
Cool
Thanks ghillie!
Underneath the playfeild is just a lonly mono speaker.
That's it!
And the "concert experience" 8-bit Rock and Roll all Night on startup! :)
Best luck to the project. Did you mention Harlem Globetrotters On Tour, Paragon and Future Spa?
I did not, I forgot a few others too, they had so many great ones it's hard to remember them all!
Paragon... Don´t ask me how much money I put into this machine when I was a teenager :)
so many pinball games you have done that I remember playing as a kid....EMs and and solid state alike. Learned on EMs. Still want a few, but right now is NOT the time to get one...YIKES people are trying to payoff their overpriced homes...LOL
Yeah the pricing is crazy right now.
That's some heavy wear right there. Oh boy. I'd probably ask for one of the decal options.
It's definitely been rolled over :)
What about Centaur? great game!
yup, one of the many I forgot, great game!
my favorite was paragon
I like the song Beth
I think it was the best song they did
It's a good song!
Gottlieb owned the EM era. Bally owned the early solid state era. Williams owned the late solid state era.
That's pretty damn accurate. I like all of 'em pretty much though :)
this is difficult to airbrush because of the inserts . the other one would be possible
We're gonna just play it and have fun with it!
oh please convince the guy to decal the play field great game like KISS its terrible to see it all worn out
"It'll hurt the resale value." So will bare wood. Also, he's had it "for a long time." But is now concerned about resale value?
I think the term is "crusteration".
Ahhh, haven't heard that one :)
Are those lifts specifically made to hold up pinball machines ?
Yes, They are!
Good afternoon, do you gentlemen ever upgrade old units, for example; change up all those mircro bulbs to leds? A lot of advantages to doing so.
They make LED's?
@@LyonsArcade lol, just saying, no heat/longer life
@Bfef Those batteries seem to a huge problem over time.
nitro ground shaker
Great game!
The Pinball Wizard was the Bally table king, not the Williams table king as far as I know.
thank you for the correction anything else you noticed I did wrong you wanna point out?
A "Sleeper"! Rough on the outside, sessy on the inside!
Vey Vey Sessy!
As I sit out the last part of this heat wave in the PNW of the USA, I wonder - you guys live with this all the time. Do you have AC at Lyons Arcade?
Everything I own has Air Conditioning in it :)
There is no AC at the Arcade and Pinball Museum in Seligenstadt Germany. The machines are all on free play, but I keep saying we need a booth where you drop in a quarter and get AC for a minute muahahahaha!
Oh..Paragon, Strikes and spares....
No hard top unfortunately. Overlay that is sold on eBay is garbage. CPR’s playfield was amazing. Too bad they don’t have more for sale.
The playfields are great but I don't see how anybody can afford to pay someone to install one in an older game like this.... so many hours of work...
oh my ron …. that evil laugh. you really are losing it? or is it just in my mind…. we will never know
You can't lose what you never had!
Typical of Bally playfields of this era. I had a STAR TREK unit and its playfield was just as bad. Espcecially in front of the flippers/
They get a ton of wear sometimes!
Thats too bad he doesn't wanna fix that playfield because man would it look alot better if he did
Hi ! For that playfield 👇
