  • The Marietas Islands Hidden Beach tour is one of the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta.
These islands were created by volcanic activity thousands of years ago. They're uninhabited and are protected from fishing and hunting. It takes a while to reach them from PV, so you're better off starting a tour from the nearby town of La Cruz.
We went on a private tour of the Marietas Islands Hidden Beach with Off the Grid Mexico and highly recommend them. It was great having a smaller boat that allowed us to maneuver around better than the big tour groups. Check them out at: / offthegridinmex and tell them the Grateful Gypsies sent ya!
Our tour included a visit to the Hidden Beach, and we were actually the first ones there that day. It was amazing having it all to ourselves! Then we did some snorkeling and bird watching. We even saw Blue Footed Boobies!
You won't believe what happened at the end of the tour. You'll just have to watch the video to find out!
Back on land, we had some time to peruse the La Cruz Sunday market and all its awesome locally made goods. Be sure to add this great tour to your list of things to do in Puerto Vallarta!

Thanks for sharing! Doing this excursion tomorrow and I’m a little nervous about the swim, but hopefully it’s worth it :)

Please share what type of camera you used on the excursion. I would like to film while in the water and on the hidden beach. I’m not sure if I should get a water proof case and if it’s allowed on the beach.

We just brought our GoPro Hero 8 for this trip. It's waterproof on its own up to a certain depth and doesn't require a special case. I also have the floatie stick so it will float if I accidentally drop it.

Can i get an idea about how much did the tour set you back?

It was a little over 2,000 pesos each or around $110. Worth every penny!

Did you need an individual permit or does the company need a permit to travel there?
