I'm using 3 1/2" squares per a pattern. the stars are Quarter inch Squares I need 8 of them to complete the star I'm having trouble making making the half 1 pattern 1/2 the other pattern. The pattern says to make an 8" square. So a scant quarter inch down the diagonal on each direction and cut it in half and then half again. They're coming out larger than they should for 3 and a 1/2 inch. I don't know what to do can you help me
This is probably too late to help you, but you can trim the oversized block down to the finished size. It's easiest if you have a square ruler in the size you need to trim down. I cut and sew everything over sized so I can trim down to size after pressing.
How do you calculate the size square to use for 1/4 square triangles? I am making an on point quilt and need 60 of them. My finished squares are 4-1/2”. I cannot find the formula anywhere. Help! Thanks.
Hi! For any quarter square triangles, you want to add 1-1/4" to the desired finished size of the square. For 4-1/2" finished squares, you would start with 5-3/4" squares. In episode 145 of My First Quilt, Sara explains this formula as well as the formula for half square triangles.
