I'd rather not carry a karambit either. I know a friend of a friend who acts all badass with his, but everyone knows he's just an edge lord with it. I carry an OTF, but at least it's usable as a knife.

Balisong is one of the most enjoyable things ever. Learning new tricks and all of that. Never learned to skate or anything really because my parents were too afraid of me hurting myself. So now that im older, taking up balisong was not only a rebellious slap in the face, but it taught me that practice makes perfect and to take pride and patience in what i do.

Reverse grip is bad if you're sword fighting, if you brought a knife to a sword fight you fucked up anyways. If you know what you're doing the reverse grip for knife fighting is very effective. Just think about how dangerous a mma fighter or a boxer is, then attach knives to his fists.
The balisong is only good as a distraction or a offensive dagger in a fight it was primarily used in the Phillipines as a utility knife because the 2 handle construction proved to be very durable compared to one handle and pin where the blade could break and go backwards this design evolved and became better to flip as people flipped it more and eventually made a kind of pseudo martial arts with them karambits are fairly good in a fight but only for cutting you cant actually stab with one which is a masssssive drawback for a knife i still like balis better because the flipping is more satisfying for me Edit karambits are also used as utility knives for electricians because the hawk talon blade is really good at stripping wires (its also good at cutting rope)
As someone who does Filipino martial arts. Balisongs are actually quite practical. Makes a great less lethal weapon when closed too. Good for edc tasks as well. Just don't edc a super cheap one because looks and parts come lose on those.

I’ve had balisong as a hobby for about 3 years now and it’s sad that there are parts of the community that are like this, luckily most people in the social aspect of balisong aren’t like this so I can flip a karambit at meets if I need a break from balis
