Street Fight is a thrilling Academy Award®-nominated story of bare-knuckle politics in America. When a young unknown challenger named Cory Booker takes on the head of a powerful political machine, he discovers that sometimes elections are won and lost in the streets.
Gritty, funny, and surprisingly inspirational, the film goes behind-the-scenes in a rough-and-tumble campaign in Newark, N.J. It offers an intimate, unvarnished view of Booker before he became a U.S. Senator and regular fixture on national political talk shows.
Street Fight also explores the complex politics of race in an election that pits Spike Lee and Cornel West against Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, and features Bill Bradley and Chris Christie.
Directed by two-time Oscar nominated documentary filmmaker, Marshall Curry, and winner of the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival, the critically acclaimed film was called “the best American political documentary since The War Room” by the Washington Post.

i just watched this documentary in school! i loved it! I was so hurt by the ignorance of newark citizens and how they kept voting for someone that was never gonna make a change, it was so disturbing...but i was happy cory booker never lost his integrity!

I left Newark for Atlanta years ago. If there would have been a Cory Booker then, I'd still be there working on his team. Blessings to you Cory for taking the risk it took to get to where you are today. You stand for much more than politics, you stand for righteousness, truth & honor. Need more like you.

Sharpe James returned to Newark yesterday after serving 27 months in a federal pen. Sad thing is, if he announced that he was entering this year's election today, he'd win by a landslide.

@daytona0310 No, a carpet bagger is somebody who comes in from the outside to take advantage of the people who were already there. It was initially a Southern reference to Northerners who moved South during the Reconstruction era. They typically carried a form of luggage called a "carpet bag". Nothing to do with race. Sharpe is calls Booker that in reference to him growing up and going to college elsewhere before moving to Newark and getting involved in politics.

This was a very disturbing movie. Sharpe James was a monster; a hateful, misogynistic, and dishonest person, who tapped angry and uneducated people.
He behaved like such a horrible person in public that you wonder why people couldn't see his worst traits.
It shows you how blind loyalty can ruin people.

@Crippled99 When your kid gets shot by some crooked cop, you would WANT Al Sharpton to bring some noise to it instead of letting the city sweep it under the rug. Maybe you live in some plush neighborhood where things that he brings to light doesnt happen to you, your family, and friends way too often (I hope i'm not giving you too much credit) but what people need in a time like that is a LOUD MOUTH. Thank God for Al Sharpton for not being afraid to stand up to the inner-city oppression.
