I think sometimes people forget what a family oriented hobby this is it's nice to see you and your son flying an airplane that you both built.😊
Like many things of value, flying is always one generation away from extinction. Much of my love for it comes from being exposed to flying very young by my dad and grandpa. Doing my best to pass it on. Being able to fly with my family has been a wonderful joy.

Such a great hobby. My interests started in early 60s going with my dad to fly an old Jr 60..a Popsie and assorted other models. Just brilliant !!! Well done.

That has to be the most excited I have seen Paul, flying the model. I need to get my Medallion powered Top Banana out flying again.
He lives to fly. And I reckon there isn't a type of plane he doesn't like, either. He's already bugging me for the next build.
And like you, I need to get my Medallion powered one back in the air. It needs a new fuselage...I wore out the old one.
It is so fun seeing your sons growing up in videos and once a year at the Nats.

What was it originally powered with before electric motors were available? Gas or rubber?
Originally small diesels and occasionally 049 engines. I have one with a Medallion on it and it flies great. I suspect most of the originals were powered by Mills, DC, and ED diesels.

The plans for this one have, to my knowledge, never been made freely available. NFFS sells plans for the original as shown in this vid as well as the larger 300 sq in version: www.freeflight.org/product-category/plans/?s=Top+banana&post_type=product&category=plans
It's shockingly obscure outside the freeflight scene. Even AMA does have a copy of the plans. Shameless plug: I do offer a full kit for the plan, with remastered CAD plans.

Dynamo is superb, though not as old of a design. Time Machine is even better. If you're looking for the same era, Zeek is a great flyer, also Swat, Civy Boy 31, Geef, Half Wild Goose, Paddys Wagon, Smarty, Y-Bar, and probably several I've forgotten.
