      Why is my 1995 Audi a6 an absolute tank last thing I did years ago was timing belt this car has needed very little work throughout the years but I'm sure Scotty wouldn't believe it's still has the original AC never touched and still blowing ice cold air I don't even get how by now everything still works on the car perfectly heated seats power windows ac moonroof ect. 160k miles engine still runs very quiet. I saw a local guy with one before and his had well over 300,000 and he threw up his arms telling me he hasn't done barely anything

      @Iron Arm I have relatives that work for Ford and couldn't believe under my Audi bumper is well made large shock absorbers so you can actually bump the bumper and it absorbs and takes a hit....... as to complete opposite with cars today you have a thin thin plastic shell bumper with styrofoam underneath is insanely cheap engineering compared to my 95 Audi. it's spent its life through Michigan salty Winters and the original factory underbody coating is still holding up great

      No, I had a 1979 Audi 5000S! It was a money pit. If the temperature went below zero, NO START! I worked 3rd shift at the time. New spark plugs and oil filter and air filter every time it would start. Oil would thicken and freeze, push through the air filter, plug the oil filter and foul the spark plugs. I called my Audi "Fritz", because it was always on one. The speedometer went out ($500) one shock absorber cost seven hundred dollars plus installation. The light fell out of the interior dome. The GM made air conditioner went out, compressor and dryer plus installation was over $1200. In one year maintenance was over $6,000. IO kept it for 4 years, I could have bought a Lincoln or Mercedes for the money that I lost!

    Don't buy one if you don't plan on doing the work yourself :) Diagnosing the issues, Sourcing the parts, and putting in your own time to fix it. It's totally worth it... If you're doing well in the financial department, get it if you don't care to lose some.

Use 91 octane or higher.. and get yourself the OBD Eleven dongle. Its made for every VW/Audi after 1996 and beats any scan tool on the market without breaking the bank for the average joe. Scans everything in the car.
      Don't get me wrong, depending on the year and model of the car, there are many common parts that fail. You learn them and when replacing them, never go cheap. Nobody likes doing jobs twice. Spend the money on OEM or aftermarket that beats OEM.

Which is onto of the engine only took me a hour to fix. Now the S4 man that’s a different story I modded it with aftermarket mods to make it faster but to be honest is pretty reliable has had some expensive fixes that I was able to do for cheap so not bad. My best advice is do your research on the Audi you get. But I would not get one if you have no experience fixing cars the reason why I am able to afford it and many others is because we fix our own cars. Unless you know someone that can do it for cheap or you yourself now how to work on it I wouldn’t recommend buying a German car at all or if your rich🤷🏻‍♂️

    Greetings from Bulgaria. I'm driving a 30 year old Audi, runs on LPG and so far is indestructible. The only things changed are struts, radiator and carburetor. And regularly oil, filters and belts of course. The only downside is that it is slow unless the engine is above 4000rpm so I'm not babying it.

      @449Raphael 4 года назад +3

      Peter G. Yes, i believe you. The old Audi,s are indestructible and good cars. But the new ones are money pits. They drive great, but are expensive to buy, they have those carbon build up problems, electrical problems, service is bad, no warranty after 2 years. When you try to sell it, you find out that it is the ultimate depreciation machine. I friend of me had purchased a new 90000€ Q5. After 25 months his dashboard gets pitch black. He could see nothing on it anymore. He went to the dealer and they had to replace the whole screen. It was like 15 hours work to take it out and a new one back in and he had to pay 2500€. The car was only one month out of warranty, but Audi refused to do something on the price. In the meantime at a Honda dealership they give a 14 year old Honda a new gearbox for free because of metal fatigue. The car had 250000kms but Honda was honest and say this gearbox broken should not happen and it's our fault. So they replace it free of charges. Try to get that from German car manufacturers, they don't know what service is and let you pay for everything that's going wrong!

      @@449Raphael I got a little confused about what you said. Every Audi that's bought brand new from the dealer have 5 year guarantee and every vehicle failure during that time is fixed for free. About the new ones, they are money pits if you don't know how to maintain them. It's getting even worse if you don't have a mechanic who understands Audi technology.
      Same as you, a friend of mine wanted an Audi but used 9-10 years old and of course I told him "It's not worth it, you will regret it" but he bought it anyway A6 3.0 TDI. Time passed but the damn thing didn't brake, neither used any oil or coolant. The Audies are high end over engineered machines and need some special care and if you and your mechanic know that, they can be just as reliable as Toyotas. But yes, they need a bit more attention and understanding!

    Owned an Audi for few years it has relatively low mileage and was great to drive. Ended up getting rid of it as it was costing me about $3000 per year in mechanical repairs as they are unessesarily complex to service and not designed for reliability in mind. Once the novelty wears off (it will) you will take a massive hit on depreciation it will however make your mechanic rich so I guess there is an upside.

      @nicktaylor7680 shame aint it I think Audi makes some lovely looking cars (interior I prefer to other German too) there is a taxi driver near me uses an A6 diesel it’s a great fast ride and I’ve been in an S6 that handles on rails with the Quattro 4 wheel drive. R8, RS6 etc lovely looking cars but endless moneypits I was too scared to get one a second hand A3 or A4 goes quite cheap but the list of common problems was huge and all expensive stuff. Went with Ford Focus in the end, no car is perfect but lots of parts available and I avoided the Powershift automatic that caused so much noise in US as most people there drive autos. Mk 3 avoided the 3 cylinder 1.0 turbo went with 4 cylinder Duratec, 67000 mikes it’s on 94000 now change oil every 5000 it doesn’t burn any oil. Had a hose replaced and window regulator and a spring on back. Try to drive it smooth and hope for the best. It’s got enough technology for me (voice control, Bluetooth, USB, 8 speaker system sounds very good, parking sensors, heated front screen etc is decent spec for 2011), some of the tech on newer cars and especially German is crazy, stuff you don’t need that costs a fortune to fix.

I'll say that it lasted a very long time, but it had some major problems. One insane one was their surreal vacuum door lock system, which wound up playing musical door locks whenever you tried to lock the car.
    I never had any major engine problems with it. Looking back with what I know now, the inline engine was very simple, and it lasted me from the 90,000 miles I bought it with to about 160,000 miles. Now, I grew up in Philly, so I didn't put excessive mileage on the car.
    This is nostalgia talking, but even with its immense weirdness and litany of problems, I loved that car. My favorite thing about it was the gigantic moonroof that went from the front to back seat. It never leaked and the motor never burned out either. But everything else slowly fell apart.

    The (2013-2017) A8 4.0T has three issues. (1) The turbos will blow up; its a matter of when. They have an oil filtration screen in the feed lines to the turbos which will clog over time and cut off oil flow to the turbos. It is NOT a service item (stupidly) enough and if you want to change them the intercooler, charge pipes, bumper, radiator support, PCV system has to come off. That's 10 hours of labor (about $2000) for a $20 screen. If you don't change them the turbows will blow up, send fragments into the intake, score the cylinder walls and cost you a $30,000 for a new engine. If you get one out of warranty, DO IT. Go to an independent shop, tell them the bumper DOES NOT have to come off as instructed by the official service instructions. Get it done for $1200 and 6 hours. (2) The exhaust downpipe mounts will break and cause serious vibrations @ 1000 and 3000 rpm. You can replace the exhaust for about $3000 at the dealer or if you are smart, weld a bracket to screw it onto the transmission case. $300 at your muffler shop. (3) The air suspension will leak after about 10-12 years. But if you are getting a relatively new one it is not something you have to worry about for a while.

    • @elliottm9365
      @elliottm9365 4 года назад

      You know your stuff. I've done a bunch of research and you described the main issues and offer good advice. I suspect but can't be sure that the turbo screens clog because people aren't good about changing the oil as they should. I'm hoping the exhaust pipe vibration issue was resolved in the later years of production. As for the air suspension, that will inevitably wear out, but I'm not familiar with what specific repairs that will be required or how much they will cost.

Me I'm not a huge fan of their cars, but I was recently riding along in an old a6 TDi with 500 000 km and the owner told me the only thing that went wrong was the turbo and even that pretty recently. But I am talking about 3rd generation audis, they hold up very well almost matching the longevity of toyotas if you check the resale market. They are basically comfier WVs. Well they were. Now they are OLD. The ultra low sulfur diesel fuel is causing some problems with fuel leaks now and then. The weakest part of those things were the various actuators throughout the vehicle. Rear HVAC systems tended to have problems on the ones that didn't get maintained properly. If used for heavy towing, the transmissions (overdrive) were kind of weak. But, back in the day, there were very reliable overall. If you get one, get it checked out by a technician who really knows the older Fords. Also I would recommend changing EVERY fluid in the vehicle and ALL the filters, and change them back to OEM. Don't use Rotella engine oil and it tended to foam up and cause misfires. Use Delo. Use diesel fuel lubricity additive and cetane booster as well.
      I like them, and I would have one if I had the need for it. Whenever we get one in for maintenance at the dealer, all the diesel guys come over to check it out because they can be awesome

Got 280000 miles in it and the motor didn’t have a a drop of oil on it. Solid motor. The issue was everything else broke on it lmao. Scotty doesn’t lie.

    Audi has been one of the most reliable cars I ever owned 😊

    The wire with organic material was made since 2010. Honda makes Rodent tape. I was told it is infused with Tabasco.
