That’s what coaches say, but a loss like Nichushkin, given its reason, timing, and deja-vu nature, affects players. They’re not robots.

That is totally the reason for the bad play . You can’t put a team through what happened last year and do it again during the Stanley cup . Stanley cup is sacred , it’s a time a hockey player puts their life on line , it is everything , it’s a religious experience for these guys . To drop out twice is to put all of the players through the horrors of addiction. The best thing for Val’s life is to get cut from this team somehow . Val can terminate his contract if he wants and the team should explain why it is the right thing for him to do. His resignation is a big part of his recovery . It’s a terrible situation that none of these players deserve to be in . Get out , it’s over. Do not treat him with kid gloves , addiction can only be conquered by learning just how bad the actions became .

As a former addict, i know dude isnt going to get the help he needs if people keep[ making excuses for him. He made a choice, and he chose hat over his team. At the end of the day dude needs to feel some sort of responsibility for what he is doing to himself and the people around him. He got away with whatever it was last season scot free with a ton of support. Idk a lot of jobs that catches you doing something drug related and has your back while offering you assistance to get better, he already got so much help. It sounds harsh but dude needs to figure out what is important to him bc making millions, playing as a top dog oin one of the best teams in the nhl with a wife and family wasnt important enough to him. Idc what you are dealing with at some point responsibility needs to be taken or it will not change. I do hope he makes better choices and improves but make no mistake here this was not a tragedy, this was not a freak accident and a player is taken out of nowhere. Dude made his bed, and now its time to lie in it.

Stars fan here. That truly sux for him and your team and it no doubt affected the team. Those guys are brothers and go to battle with and for each other night in and night out so to lose any of your teammates much less two of your best is devastating. Coach will always be coach and say it's not an excuse but we know better. If the Stars lost Johnston and Tanev they would be in trouble and it would damn sure affect the chemistry. No one likes winning when your opponent isn't at full strength. Sure, no ones going to feel sorry for you I get that but it's still a huge blow to try and overcome period especially when you're hit with the news just before the game. All they can do is man up, come out swinging and play their asses off from here on out because it ain't over by a long shot. ✌

I can't wait for the day when people stop labeling factors as excuses. Losing him like that, and for the 2nd straight year in the playoffs, is absolutely a factor.

I don’t care if he shits gold eggs. He is a liability, and has betrayed this team and the fan base more than enough. Fire him rebuild and move on.

I really like to know i thing. In the Avs locker room why has Nichushkin name plate and assuming equipment replaced by Foudy's name and equipment. The players see that, how are they suppose to react.

They probably agreed with it. He let them down more than anyone

What are they supposed to do? Just keep everything the way it was and hope he returns in 6 months like no big deal?

@@bdgrey True, I have heard a lot about Johnson interview but can't find it. If you watch Bednar, Cogs and even Cale. My opinion they have lost trust in Val. If he returns what he has done to the group of guys who welcomed him back before I don't think they can again.

If we don’t make a comeback a few things need addressing 1)Landeskog he’s been out for a long time he’s a big contract big hit on our cap if he won’t play again we need the space for another prospect. 2) val, as much as I love his play it’s a big loss losing him in these critical times if he can’t be reliable we need him gone. 3) goaltenders, georgiev has a winning record but 4+ goal games isn’t gunna win any cups. We need a goalie that can stand on his head we need him to a limit it to 2-3 goals max, we have the scoring but we need help in our zone.

Pack up your tents and try again next year, when you have a stable roster.

I get it, he's obviously going through some stuff, but the fact of the matter is he let himself and the team down AGAIN. Being an addict does not absolve you from taking responsibility for your actions. He needs help, I hope he gets it, but he should not be part of this team anymore. It’s sad but he’s proven he can’t be relied on.

Last question was tactless and unnecessary, dude should be embarrassed. I have a feeling he won't be getting the mic in the next presser.

Sorry but Drouin is not an equal replacement. Glad he's back, but Val's been the best player on the team. Terrible team effort, I guess Dallas just have them figured out, making them look like amateurs

Coach lost the locker room way before Val and Toews news today. Mac skated off the ice 30 seconds before his shift last game - or game 2 but whatever. Issues with PP gaining entry, short handed goals, too many men and other unforced penalties/errors. Top line not performing.
Dallas has a structure and these guys couldnt crack it. It is coaching and not sure why people think it is otherwise. This team has been very inconsistent, with poor decision making, dumb penalties, untimely turnovers, playing dumb, lack of adjustments the entire year. Top line quit on him. Mikko, Makar, Mac have quit on this team and quit on this coach in this series.
But, they never looked like a championship team to me throughout the season. However, Jets series fooled me. Now, they have reverted to the team that I saw during the regular season.
