This was one of the last games published for the 2600, alongside klax and acid drop. This game shows clearly the capabilities of the 2600 hardware, just like pitfall and pitfall 2 do. One of my fav :)
I had this game on my atari 2600 back in the day. It is strange to learn that it was one of the last games ever made. I was scrolling through a complete list of atari games thinking that I was either missing the game or it was on another system I played until I got to game 250 of 252 and there it was :). As far as playing the game goes, this was one HARD game. First you had to not run out of energy, then you had to keep moving to make sure you didn't run out of oxygen. I never got past ship 3!
Just played it on real hardware for the first time today. Great game. You can clearly see the influence 8-bit computer games here (Atari, Apple, Commodore). It's considerably more complex than the typical 2600 title yet simple enough that you can understand after a short read of the manual how to play. I can only imagine what we might have seen on the 2600 in the early 80s had that home computer influence been there before. BTW I've never seen such smooth animation on the 2600 as his legs
It was an impressive game for the Atari 2600. It even had a password system for saving your progress while you turned the system off (which I spent time figuring out one day). I remember getting this at Toys r Us in the early 1990s. It must have been some old stock that was on its final clearance.
on the atgames atari flashback 3 and flashback 6, secret quest was unplayable because they left out the b&w switch but atgames fixed that issue on the atari flashback 7 and flashback 8 by holding up on the joystick and pressing select.
Sir, do you have list of your Atari 2600 and your rankings. Different than a lot of people, I find your rankings lay out nicely with how I view the games, and so these reviews drive me to know what carts to get first.
This is a great action adventure game; I actually prefer it to Pitfall since you can destroy bad guys in it. Its one downside is that on a particular screen, you can only fight one bad guy at a time but besides this limitation, the game is quite advanced - it even has a rudimentary save game function.
Don't get all the 'This ripped of Zelda arguments'... There were loads of game like this at the time. Zelda may be the most known now, but not at the time. And they all came from Adventure anyway. This was in the 1980s, everything ripped off everything else ;) It wasn't like today with lawsuits everywhere. You would have to really take the P!s for a lawsute to happen - see 'Great Giana Sisters'
good game, but way too hard. Should regen health at end of each level and shouldn't lose oxygen cause if enemy damage. Otherwise good, I am shocked the atari 2600 can run this.
@@jollygreengamers5625 i know this is late but i think he was trying to make a joke implying that Zelda has Adventure, also by Atari, to credit for its existence

A really strange, yet awesome looking adventure I'd say! The enemies look like moving tools that first came out of a weird 1980's cartoon, lol.
@vinnieblacklodge Me too, I used to love it but it was just impossible to survive after level 4 for me.

This one is a must have for the 2600.
Not really, it was made long after the Atari's golden age.
handsomebrick And? Still a must-have.

Same kids playing this in '89 probably still had an 8 track player too. Comparing this to NES is night and day.

After seeing the cgr review of this I ordered 2. One to play and one to eat
i ATE ONE tWo...
Famicom Disk System came out by Nintendo.
The Famicom Disk System is the Japanese NES ... and no, LoZ came out 1986.
Legend of Zelda came out in 1986, Secret Quest in 1989....so who copies whom? oO
Hint: You don't need to find all the symbols to activate the bomb. It's easy enough to find all but one, and then just guess that last one.

This look good. Too bad they never did a version for the Atari 7800, wonder what that wold have looked like.
Just one question, Why isn't there a sequel/remake of this game? Can you imagine how awesome a sequel/remake would be?
this reminds me of zelda

Sorry, I don't have such a list.

Advanced? It came out in 1989. It’s interesting in a historical sense because it’s the last 2600 game but it was horribly outdated even when released.
Been ages since I played this. Level 3 was as far as I ever got.
I think you're supposed to make maps, but I don't think it would be worth the effort.
I remember this being on the very first flashback Atari. it was never on the others. I never knew why
I remember this game was also on Atari Flashback Classics on PS4, vol. 2 I believe
Secret Collect for the Videlectrix Fun Machine is superior.
Secret Quest was actually THE last game released for the 2600 in the U.S..
Thank God, I see why.
3rd level is very hard ; 4th impossible : 5th level nobody had seen it
yeah i never got far in this game.
I can't believe Famicom Disk System was released by NES? I think Zelda was released by NES in 1989
Zelda was released years before this game.
You have a poor grasp of the English language
Gracias por ayudarme a pasar ese juego

Legend of Zelda-ish
Did you mean Atari Adventure-ish?
:)
This game came out in 1989 and LOZ was released in 86

Who else gave up because they couldn't beat level 2?
I can't believe Zelda copy this, now I can see the bunch of crap is Nintendo.
If you want to know some actual games that Zelda took ideas from, try Adventure, Hydlide, Tower of Druaga, or Ultima 3.
