In days of yore circa 2015 and 2016 DRS operated their short sets along the wherry lines becoming popular amongst the railway enthusiasts with traction being provided by 37's 47's 57's 68's and 66426 during a rescue, these operations lasting till 2020 when the Stadler fleet made up the shortage in DMU's at Crown Point and DRS as a whole slowly moved out of the Greater Anglia network.
We're back in 2016 on 5J67 with an ECS working to lowerstoft which would then form the first passenger working of the DRS short sets to Norwich via Reedahm with 37 405 and 425 providing the power, so come... join your driver in the cab and listen to the sound of the generator scream cause these windows don't open.
Recorded at 1 ish in the morning route knowledge runs out after Somerleyton look for the panic at Lowerstoft, I talk fondly of DRS despite not being into the mainline railway scene during their service on the GA something i will probably come to regret for a long time along with missing the Class 90's and barely seeing the Class 86's ,158's and 360's during their run as freight and passenger trains respectfully ,i was able to see the 321's arriving and sitting in the bay of my local station on my way to and from my destinations but they disappeared quietly replaced by the now "sleek" and "futuristic" 485's and 720's of today's railway.
I remember these consists i always used to stand at whitlingham lake just near trowse junction and watch them go over the bridges to get onto the island around Thorpe St Andrew which is the other side of the lake from the cafe
I'll admit i used google maps ,they would be climbing up to 60 at that point or coasting down to 25 (be impressed by my recent route knowlege) do you have any favourite memories watching from the lake ?
My favourite memories was back when they had the 156 and 153 rumbling down the line I also saw a class 66 and one time at Sheringham that branches off from the line past the lake I saw a ScotRail Class 47 with ScotRail coaches and even a DBSO! I do have a video on it
those days were better when a variety of traction was used and each area had its own home fleet and its unique charm i didn't fully experience it and yet i miss it, i would like to see the video of the 47 with the DBSO i reckon its 47 712 out on a railtour.
I don’t like the 755 or the 745 to be perfectly honest
The units of today's railways are made for the commuters not the railway enthusiast and to fit regulations only 67's ,68's and 91's are regularly pulling passenger services in a push pull formation.
I know a mate who takes the train from cantley every day
