Musician, songwriter, composer and producer, Chichi Peralta, born Pedro René Peralta Soto on July 9, 1966 is from the Dominican Republic. His love for music started at a very young age, he built his first drum when he is only 4 years old.
His music is abundant with Latin rhythms. He combined these Latin rhythms with jazz, Afro-American, Afro-Cuban, merengue and pop, but also Arabic rhythms and exotic instruments. He created his own style known as Fusón.
In 1997, his first album titled Pa’ Otro La’o was released in the US and Latin America. He was awarded the Lo Nuestro Award in 1998 for Artist of the Year. In 2000, he teamed up with César Olarte and René Geraldino and released De Vuelta al Barrio, followed by a worldwide tour and awarded Best Merengue Album at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2001.
In 2005, he released his 3rd album Más Que Suficiente and won Best Contemporary Tropical Album at the 2006 Latin Grammy Awards. In 2009, a mix of merengue and contemporary Japanese music was featured on the release of his 4th album De Aquel La’o del Rio. Once again, he was awarded at Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards in 2007 as Tropical Merengue Artist of the Year.
His success and uniqueness gave him the honor to be declared goodwill ambassador by his country in 2007.
