A product backlog may represent many months of work, which is more than the Scrum team can complete in a single Sprint. To determine the most important subset of product backlog items to build in the next sprint, the team holds the Sprint planning.
During the Sprint planning, the product owner and the development team agree on the Sprint Goal, which is what the Sprint should achieve.
With this Sprint goal in mind, the product owner and the team pick the highest priority Product Backlog items that can be completed within the Sprint, while working at a sustainable pace.
The duration of the sprint planning meeting depends on the length of the Sprint.
