  • First time on this section of the Gila River (New Mexico). I was really impressed with the scenery. The flow was pretty low (about 200cfs). Pretty much all class I boating, but there were lotsa strainers and sweepers and these need to be taken pretty seriously. I would hate for somebody to have a bad day down here considering it is fairly remote.
We put in at the Gila Lower Box Area of Critical Environmental Concern and Wilderness Study (a side road of of Fuller Rd) and took out at Sunset (Diversion) Dam. The shuttle route is kind of complicated, so I won't be following up with driving instructions (But it is near Nichols Canyon - and we took out above Virden, NM)

Thanks! Yeah, there aren't a ton of videos of the area, and I did the best I could of including the best details and footage I could. I am not super familiar with the area.

Somebody drowned boating in the Gila on a trip between Grapevine and Gila. That was in April, I think. He was part of party that had three boats.
