  • Welcome to a world of life and color! Thrilled to see our @oceanrescuealliance and @reefcells Coral Lok bases getting used by restoration practitioners throughout South Florida. As part of the largest experimental outplanting effort in Florida to study the effects of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease on boulder corals.
    Experimental boulder coral restoration in South Florida! The experiment, run by MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife and Florida Department of Environmental Protection is looking into the effects of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease on boulder corals.
    We have assisted this effort by contributing Coral Lok bases for restoration groups to outplant 6,000 corals!
    This research project is conducted by MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife and Florida Department of Environmental Protection in collaboration with FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Nova Southeastern University Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science Biscayne National Park, Keys Marine Laboratory, Ocean Rescue Alliance & Reef Cells.
    Huge shout out to the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science and the Lirman lab team for coordinating a large portion of this effort. Joe Unsworth , Dalton Hesley and countless others. Enabling us to pilot this new coral base for restoration and research use! Incredible team we are grateful to collaborate with!
