Man, I just love your vieos so much dude. First time I've ordered parts to build for an aesthetic build as well as performance and you've guided me so comfortably step by step. Thanks so much for all the content you put out, it really makes making decisions so much easier and gives me the peace-of-mind I always need when it comes to making pricy purchases! Keep up the AWESOME work Mr. Prawn!
YOURE SO CLOSE TO 100K YOU CAN DO IT I BELIEVE IN YOU. ive been subbed since 60k i think. I aint gonna be one of those people that say "hey ive been aubbed when you nearly started your channel" as most people would say when a youtuber hits a huge miletone but honestly... i believe i was subbed since 60k ish i think. Also i love that white aethestic on that MSI motherboard as it would fit my white aesthetic room so well.
With five NVMe SSD slots this MSI MPG Z790 EDGE TI MAX WIFI is, obviously, modern and technically well equipped motherboard with some nice features and beautiful aesthetics. Nice review video, PP !
It also supports EIGHT sata ports, too much waffle and not enough information. I was in two minds between 9800 and 14900, but seeing the extra sata ports the 14900 is going to win. I love my storage.
Excellent review! I'm the type of user that needs plenty of fast storage (video editor). Awesome that you talk about the speeds if you populate all slots (which I plan to do).
I did wonder why in one of your previous builds you said to put the drive in the top slot for fastest speeds but you didn't mention the additional feature unspecified in the contract that it can pinch half the PCI lanes from the GPU, you had a separate video up your sleeve, as far as I've seen your analysis of the effects on drive performance is a first so well done you.
I wasn't planning it out like that tbh. Whether it does "pinch" the PCIe lanes varies wildly from motherboard to motherboard based on what I've seen during testing. So i wasn't going to say something that wouldn't always be true and/or do so without testing it first. :)
I run 4 sticks of ram just fine and very stable with the 1st launched Z790 Gaming Edge . And there is a fan header near the top M.2 for exhaust but you can use a splitter.
Which would you recommend for a complete beginner building their first pc going for a white build. This msi one or the gigabyte z790 aorus elite ax ice? Which is the best bang for buck?
the question here is sir , if i use a gen4 in that slot do i still lose gpu lanes ? ( got the same motherboard coming btw ) , or do i need to use the m2_2 slot if i dont want to lose gpu lanes ?
I'm glad I found this video, I'm using the same board. You mentioned the issue about the lack of fan headers at the top. How did you solve the problem of getting power to the fans via the lower fan headers? Extensions? Are they all the same?
@@dexsama8890 I have a Noctua NH-U12A cooler and ended up connecting both fans to the CPU header. Sys6 is near that location and I connected 2 exhaust fans to it. I used extenders to reach the bottom headers for 3 intake fans. The only issue is that no matter how I set the fan curves in BIOS, the CPU fans always run at the max of 2000 rpm even when CPU temp is in the 30's.

Great review of my favorite motherboard! Could you upload the iso file from the MSI flash drive somewhere to the cloud? I accidentally deleted it and couldn't restore it. Understand. that its value is not great, but I want the authentic contents of the flash drive))
First of all, thank you for all your videos. I benefited a lot. I want to ask again to avoid confusion. Why shouldn't I insert my Gen4 m2 disk into the top slot? What do I lose if I put it in the top slot?
So Prawn what about the ME Firmware Download that is listed below the newest Motherboard Driver? Are you downloading and installing it after you've updated the current/most recent BIOS? Thx
Hi Provoked, i wonder if you had reviewed the previous version of this MB ( MSI MPG Z790 EDGE WIFI ) they are basically the same, minor changes. But how would youbpair it with this i wonder... Thanks for your awesome videos, they are so instructive and constructive!
I have a question. if I slot in an I-9 14900k and update the bios to run it will it allow me to use all 16 lanes with a gen 5 in the main slot and a gen 4 nvme ssd slotted in the second. or will it still cut it down to 8 lanes?
So even if im running a gen 4 drive in the m2_1 slot, its going to drop my gpu to 8 lanes? If so thats pretty weak, considering i can run five gen 4 drives and still get all 16 lanes for the gpu with my regular z790 edge. Even more weak considering no gpu even uses pcie 5 yet, so you're just wasting away gen 5 lanes instead of utlizing all of the available cpu gen 4 lanes on z790.
Is the issue with the NVME taking the lanes away from the GPU just with this motherboard? Or on any motherboard when populating both 5.0 slots (gpu + M.2)
I was looking at this board and have read some horror stories about the WiFi / LAN drivers not working at all. How was the setup for that out of the box ?
just to clarify, so long as im using a gen 4 ssd in the top slot i still get 16 lanes for the gpu. is that correct? or do i need to leave the top slot empty for that?
So im confused, if i use a ge5 ssd in the only spot designed for it i cut my lanes in half, and slow it down. What do i do then to keep all 16 lanes open
