If you play great disco music to walk by, then that's what the mob will do.
Playing on a ship to a "CAPTIVE" audience isn't like performing on the street. You have to play music that will make them stop. Jacob definitely has everything and more of a super fantastic performer. However, I think he has to implement the rules of magic. And, that is something he's not going to learn on a ship. I performed on a ship. Good steady pay but it's not like being in front of an angry mob that wants to kill you and you have to make them love you. There's no challenge on a ship. What are they going to do? Ask for another performer?
What would happen if JK lowers the music to a comfortable volume and sings something like, "Stop in the name of love" just accapella while singing it out like a Broadway show, then slowly adds in the guitar and finishes it adding the stomp box? That would be magical.
Maybe looking at the audience engaging them instead of looking at the lyric sheet. A performance has to be magical. The only problem with being magical is that the performer isn't invisible and being invisible is comfortable. Maybe that's why JK plays walking music? Also, constructive critique isn't to insult an artist but to offer options at reaching an objective. If the music is too loud then it's too loud. We don't want to offend but it's necessary not to align with "Yes" people. I know that Jacob is the best voice I've heard in quite a while. Great musician. As a fan, I wonder to what levell does he want to be at? I don't think it's playing to people passing by or being on a ship.
What do I know? I'm old and I just downloaded this song to a cassette so I can play it on my Walkman battery operated cassette player so I can walk around Manhattan.
