  • Goat and Sheep rearing must have first a plan for infrastructure. Area for pens, types and source of feeding for the animals. I have seen so many farmers buy animals, bring them home and then start thinking about how to house and feed them. They end up losing some animals because of miss management. We should always have more food than mouth to feed.
    Mr.Bent did it Right.....
The SRAJM is open to all farmers in goat and sheep rearing and there is no age limit. It is a non-governmental organization with affiliation to the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) and Jamaica Livestock Association (JLA), and possesses its own Board of Management and Secretariat. It is also a member of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS).
Why should you become a member? Here are some benefits of SRAJM:
    1) Continuous training of the latest development in the small ruminants industry.
    2) Preparation of farm plans and project proposals.
    3) Information in the formulation of feeds.
    And Many more………..

I am soo impressed with the investment from livestock farmers and the husbandry practices used. I am extremely expressed with silage production which needs to be implemented and you can have it available during the drought period. This is a perfect example of an integrated farm. Very educational tool!! Great job!!!!

If you use chickens to roam free in the grass they help scratch and spread the goat berries

Beautiful start. Now talk to the people about the 5 principles of soil health! 1. Keep the soil covered/protected to keep in moisture, moderate temperature, and feed the soil. 2. Reduce disturbance - avoid tillage, chemical fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides. 3. Increase diversity with 3, 5, 8, 15 and more species in a field- avoid monocropping. 4. Keep a living root in the soil for as many months of the year so the sunlight is collected all year long. 5. Integrate animals (diversity here too with chickens following cattle and goat).

With an electric fence and goats broke to hotwire or hotwire, you can transport a handful of goats to trim people yard for a small fee.

grass/corn or greens chopped up and stored to cause it to ferment to a certain level. The less oxygen/fresh air, the better. it is then fed to cattle/goats and sheep
