If it's a 727 makes sure you check it in NEUTRAL with the engine running. It will show fuller in Park than it actually is because of how the fluid is routed from the pump in the park position.

Love those old Cornbinders. Engines that seemingly run forever (even though they won't pass anything including a gas station). 727 Torqueflites are the best automatic ever built. MoPar race cars from the '60's and '70's will attest to that. Looks like a winner for a shop truck that's just a little different.

allways amazed that those old trucks start and isnt total rustbuckets. And about the noise, did not mind it at all. really liked the sound of that chainsaw. made it sound real and genuine.

The original square body!!! My stepdad had a similar year International pickup, but it was gold and a half ton. I always liked that truck, probably because we owned it and also because it just wasn't as common as Chevy's and Ford's so you didn't see as many around. Can't wait to see how the build progresses.

I had a 74 200 4x4 for 23 years. It was a 392 4 speed and ran like a Swiss watch. It got 10 mpg all day long, loaded or not. It was solid as a rock and absolutely beat you to death. I would suggest replacing the transmission with a 4 speed OD unit for better mileage and lower rpm at highway speeds. If budget allows a fuel injection change over would make it modern daily driver. Keep up the good work.

I have done a lot of 727 and 904 trans. It is worth the time to take out the valve body and see if the valves are gummed up from sitting. Easy to put in a shift kit at the same time. I have saved a lot of them with that trick.

I bought a 1968 1200C 4x4 that had been sitting in the woods for 30 years. It was an old fire department brush truck. Had 29K on the clock. 304 cubic inch that was stuck from sitting. Doused the cylinders with penetrating oil. Let sit for a week, then some more oil.
Put 4 gallons of oil in, drained it. Then she broke free. Plugs , wires, rotor, cap , and points. Hooked up the boat tank and within a minute she was idling like a new truck! I really like those old trucks

In the mid 70s I worked for a company that had Travelall with a 345 and a 1/2 ton with a 400. Both of them were powerful and long lasting but both of them were really thirsty, I mean really thirsty. I was working 100 miles away in about 1990 when I looked up to see the 1974, which the company had sold with over 100k on it in about 1980 going down the street. It had the shop logo on it still and although it had dents all over it I recognized it. That truck had torque that was phenomenal but it had two gas tanks for a reason

Great to see you giving an ol' Cornbinder some love. Unless an aftermarket swap happened, which is certainly possible, that auto trans would be a Borg Warner 11. The Torqueflite was not a faktree deal in these Binders until the 1972 model year.

Always check the starter for being loose, most people don’t have the correct tools to tighten the starter correctly. I’ve found many loose starters that damage the flex plate and most of the time you can just take a file and knock the burrs off the teeth from a loose starter.

That 345 runs like a sewing machine. Nice and quiet. May need some new valve seals though. not too hard to do if you've got the right tools. Looks like she puffs a little smoke on startup. As long as you ran it before the transmission test all the mystery oil that may have been left should have burnt off after the first minute or so of running it. VERY cool straight old truck. May want to toss some actual coolant in it, though as winter is almost on top of us.

In a perfect world, I'd win that swapped Intl. Scout, & trade you for the old school pickup - I've owned MoPars, GM, even a handful of Fords (Mistakes exc. for the '70 Van), so a real International would be fun. Guess I'll have to love it from afar. I hope you go for the home rebuild on the trans - if the case isn't porous or otherwise damaged, a kit should make it right as rain. Then you could take a look at the brakes - I think the RF one either drags or locks up before the other 3.
