    The Arabic term "Ijma" is discussed in this video. Ijma means consensus, usually referring to Ijma al-Sahaba (consensus of the companions), but it could also refer to Ijma al-Ulema (although this category is problematic from a Fiqhi perspective).

    But why there is so much disagreement between early muslims even sahabas(ibn Abbas for ex)on the women covering?it was not clear how the women wear?The women did not follow the quran instructions?The prophet did not tell them how?Is confusing.

      If the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam didn't said about this then there shoud be not any compolsion

      There are some narations, more than three, about it. However, like any other hadith narations, debat about their soundness are inevitable, except if the narations are mutawatir.

      It’s a famous narration and it’s believed shahih. The point was not about why umar beat the slave, the point is, the purpose of hijab in the past was to distinguish which one was a free woman and which one was a slave or a low class woman, it means not all Muslim women obligated to wear hijab, only a free high status woman during Umar regime.
