The best anecdote I heard from a Burr interview, was when he walked off the stage, he thought he fucked up his career. Bob Saget came up to him, and all he said was something like, "You're about to be huge."
I was in the crowd for this. At first I thought it was his set but just a few minutes into I realized he was trashing everything. Story was the comedian before him was getting heckled and booed. Bill Burr started his set than got set off by the crowd.
3 days late! Not just the one before him. According to a interview Bill was #8 in line and he was told this was a thing here and most before him were being trashed and after a couple hours of this Bill was pissed! ☮️
It’s not that he was winning over Philly fans, it’s that because of proximity, there was also a lot of NY and NJ fans loving the roasting of all things Philadelphia.
This is the real Bill Burr, this is what he really wants to say to people. This isn't just a bit that he's doing, it's pure unfiltered Bill Burr at his best
@@truthseeker6532 I disagree.. him doing the bit live is much better than having the animation put to it. Better to react to the live version and then they can watch the animation on their own time.

Bill immediately trashed Roland, and Roland tried to throw the trashing back on Patrice saying, "It was Patrice's idea" 🤣
Bob Saget was watching all of this go down just to the side of the stage with his mouth open in both horror and amazement because every comedian has had crowds like this and WANTED to do this, but didn’t. Not Bill, he went there and a legend was born.

I was in the crowd for this performance. This was a comedy tour call the Virus Tour from a radio show Opie and Anthony. What happened was the opener came out and he wasn't doing to good so the people started to booo him. The crowd seeing what they did, were trying to booo Bill off the stage. This was before Bill became really big. Also of note the fans of this show were very mean spirited which reflected they type of radio show O&A were. The super fans were called PESTS. There was a whole life style around this show. I'm pretty sure Patrice also performed at this show.
Every outsider thinks us Boston fans “hate” New York fans the most. Not true. We actually get along in most all social situations. Fuck Philadelphia. - sincerely, a true Boston sports fan
Camden, New Jersey is directly across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia is generally regarded as having the worst sports fans in the country. They threw snowballs at Santa during an Eagles game. To make matters worse, Opie and Anthony fans were (lovingly) referred to as The Pests and often would cause mayhem with other radio shows. These fans were also drunk from day drinking before the show even got started. They booed every previous comedian who came to the stage before they even got a chance to tell a joke. They just wanted to see Opie and Anthony who would be on stage after the comedians. Dom Irerra who is a great comedian and has been for decades was on just before Bill and they booed him the whole time he was on stage. Bill took offense to this and shut that shit down as soon as he got on stage.
You left 2 awful bloats to freelance with this stunning beauty. I'm kidding, I love all your work. I wish you and the bloaks could kinda interface so they can show you their approval in real time
Jim Norton was next and Bill felt terrible about what he did but Jim was loved being a cast member of Opie and Anthony (it was their traveling Virus tour)
I saw an interview with Bill and he says that this night wasn’t nearly as bad as legend has it… Said the crowd had booed a couple of previous comedians, but they weren’t as terrible as people claim and he was totally being a jerk that night and he’s shocked that he didn’t destroy his career over this. I was disappointed when I heard him start talking about somebody coming in with the firearm, that’s just a common occurrence in today’s society so those kinds of things should never be encouraged, but Bill said he was just being a jerk.
I believe Patrice O'neal was on right before Bill Burr, and Bill Burr was pissed how the crowd treated Patrice. That's the reason he called the crowd racists. He came on stage angry
This does need some context. First of all, this was during a massive comedy festival event that did a tour over the East of the US. Many famous comedians performed. At one point, a well-loved comedian named Dom Irrera performed but was booed off stage by the crowd. Bill Burr went on immediately after this incident, and was incensed at the disrespect shown by the crowd. Second, Philadelphia is a town that has a certain...reputation. It's an historic city, with lots of interesting sights, but its people are ROUGH. They're known as world-class haters, and it's generally not advisable for sport fanatics from other towns to attend their local games as they can be harassed or assaulted. They have nasty tempers. The only thing in UK I can compare this to might be something like one of those northern industrial towns like Birmingham. Third, Philadelphia is a racially diverse city, but for some reason there's a pervasive stereotype of a typical Philadelphian: White, Italian-American, thick neck, shaved head, racially paranoid, wearing a shirt or jacket celebrating the local team, and ready to fight at a moment's notice.
As a Philadelphian, born & raised, this rant is funny but majority of the information he was spewing is false. From there being more than 1 bridge to Philly paying for the Rocky statue (it was a gift from Sly in 2006.) The event was also held across the river from Philly in Camden, NJ. Go 🦅 though!
